    Worst Madame Janette's Experience

We have made Madame Janette's part of our Aruba experience for over ten years.

At the prices they charge, service should be first rate all of the time.

The young man serving my wife's martini dumped part of it in our bread basket. Not that big of a deal - things happen.

After taking our order we never saw our main server for the rest of the evening. After being served our meal, we never saw another human for the WHOLE meal.

When the assistant asked if we were done, I asked about our waitress. "Oh, she had an emergency- we were to look after you guys." Might have been nice if a) that happened and b) someone told us.

I am not one to make a scene - as I said at the beginning, at that price I expect better. Things happen - let people know.

Unfortunately, we are in no hurry now to return.

Sorry you were disappointed. I hope you made your displeasure known to the manager.

sorry that the service was not to your liking
    that is unfortunate indeed.

aside from the service issues, was the food as delicious as usual?

i am surprised that you would give up on them after so many years of being satisified with the MJ experience.

i have to assume that when you spoke with the manager he/she was not able to make the situation any less frustrating?

I agree with your comments. We were in MJ 2 or 3 times and never were crazy about the service and quality of food. We hab similar experience with the waitress. When she disappeared all of the sudden and other guys were serving us.

Hi Andrea - food was fine. Again, at these price points you expect no less.

    glad to hear that!
sadly though, the good dinners did not make up for the poor service.

I guess she must have been very busy. Too many tables to wait on and some of those tables are large groups. On my last visit, my waitress was very busy that I also did not see her after she took my order. It did take a long time for our entry to come out but i flagged one of the assistant for another Martini and he got it wrong. I wanted the martini with a twist of lime and he brought it with Olives. He took it back and made it right.

At Chalet Suise I usually don't see the waiter for a long time but they have a lot of assistant waiters that come around asking if you want another drink and check up on you. Perhaps they need to adapt their system.Same with Quinta De Carmen, someone is always checking up on you if the waiter is too busy.

Disappointing for sure. Did you speak with anyone about the service? I too expect great service and the food to match when you are paying for it but I also would let them know if they "failed" in delivering in one of those areas so they could have an opportunity to make it right. I would chop it up to a poor server if it was a place I loved and give them another shot. If it happened again I would then not return...I don't do three strikes and your out but I also don't do one if it was a place I loved to go to.

We had the worst service ever at Pinchos a few years ago. We go every year and it has always been great, but this guy was beyond pathetic. He also dropped off our food, never returned, and stood at the bar with his back to his customers the entire night. We were so turned off that we skipped it the following year. After that, we decided to go back, got a fantastic server named Joann, and now ask to be seated in her section every time. We took a break from Madame Janette's a few years, after a heated discussion on this board. Some board members weren't happy with their dinner and the chef came on and got involved, and things turned ugly. We were very turned off by his response, so we stopped going. We decided to give it another try back in February, and it was a wonderful evening. I totally understand how you feel and that you probably need a break. There are so many great places to eat in Aruba. It's hard to fit them all in.

I think you can great bad service anywhere from time to time. We have only been to MJ once and the service was awful-the waitress was very pregnant and probably should not have been working. We barely saw her and she was not very friendly. We had been to Old Cunucu House and had excellent service but the last time we didn't see any servers for about 20-30 min. and had to go looking for our server to get the check. But again it can happen anywhere-once in Texas and once in California we went so long without seeing anyone, that we(our son actually) called the restaurant from our table to complain-service got better then.
