Thanks so much gals! I will try to post some pics if I can soon!

I'm going to try to address everything you asked but if I forget something, just ask me again. :-)

As for the Marriott Stellaris Casino and Resort....I think it's a fabulous resort! This was my 6th year in a row there and so it was an easy decision for us where we wanted to get married. There are three buildings in the resort...The Marriott Hotel & Stellaris Casino (newly renovated and where the weddings take place), The Ocean Club (1 & 2 bedroom condos), & The Surf Club (the newest building with a lazy river, etc which also has 1, 2, 3 bedroom condos). My parents own a timeshare in the Surf Club and we love it. All of our guests stayed in the Surf Club so it worked out great & was a blast!

I didn't even think about the beach being crowded so I wouldn't worry about that. We did have some people around but most were just observing the wedding and the others I didn't even notice. We did have a guy take pictures from the water and he gave us his business card and we emailed him and got the pics! Ha!!

As for the time of year...we chose May because we went in May the 2 years prior to this year and loved it because it's the slow season. Kids aren't out of school yet, etc. When we decided on the destination wedding in Aruba, we knew it would have to be May...just because it's our fave.

We got engaged the weekend after we got back from Aruba last year so we didn't get to think about anything or take care of anything while actually in Aruba. It is hard sometimes doing the email thing, but it all worked out. It all came together! We did a lot of searching on the photographers on the island, as well as the bands before we made our decisions. I did not have a lot of luck with the bands, which is why we decided to go with the DJ that the Marriott hires. I'm sooo happy we did....they were awesome!!

The weather in May is perfect! It didn't rain at all and we were there for 8 days.... Beautiful!

Hope that helps!! Let me know if you have any more questions!

    ~Lisa

    Lisa,

I would love your input too on whether you visited the Westin and your thoughts about there versus the Marriott. Also, why did you choose outside vendors, was it for cost or variety? Is Desiree a Marriott person? I have so many questions...sorry.

Great photos! And cutting the cake on the beach is an interesting idea. Which reception space did you use? We love the idea of their patio but wish they had it decorated maybe with some large potted plants and some loungy furniture. We ended up choosing the lawn next to the pool for dinner and are planning dancing poolside. I just don't like that the lawn is right in the middle of the property. Its a great hotel though isn't it? Like brand new. I love the contemporary decor.

I'm a Marriott girl (love it!) since my parents own in the Surf Club and I've been staying there for 6 years now. Sorry...I've never checked out the Westin so no input on that.

The reason we went with outside vendors for some things is for a few reasons.
With picking a photographer, the Marriott gave us a few names of photographers who they use and we thought they were all great. We just wanted to see the other styles of the other photographers on the island too. Victor fit our style the most. :-)

As for the bands, we initially really wanted a band for our reception, but the Marriott typically uses Dj's so I researched this on my own. I found out names and input of bands through this forum....and then a couple months before the wedding Desiree, tried to help me and hook me up with a band but they didn't respond quick enough. Also, during the time I was trying to get sample songs from different bands, Desiree was on partial maternity leave. But once she came back full-time again, we got quick responses so no worries about that.
:-) She is a really great wedding coordinator!
We also hired our Reverend and videographer directly. It saves a little bit of money but for us, it was more just picking who we wanted and booking it ourselves. We wanted to book these people earlier than later since they were specifically who we wanted. Just didn't want to wait, and then they would not be available for our wedding. It would have definitely been easier to go through the Marriott so we wouldn't have had to worry about paying our venders directly when we got there but it still worked out fine. If you do have a specific vender you want, definitely ask the Marriott if you can hire that person through them and then it's included in your final bill. If not, just hire them directly.

I put a lot of specifics on my initial thread so definitely check that out again for names, reference, etc.

Thanks! The patio is brand new this year and we thought it worked out perfect! We met with Desiree when we arrived a few days earlier and we told her exactly how we wanted everything set up. We had a lot of cocktail tables set up...it looked great! The lawn is pretty too though!

Yes, the hotel just went through a huge renovation and the rooms are great. George and I stayed in the hotel on our wedding night so we were able to see the new style and enjoy it. They did a great job!

Sorry - one more question - this new patio is next to the La Vista restaurant patio. Did that patio remain open for dining? If so, was it at all distraction to have hotel guests dining right next to your reception site? Thanks. Christene

The Dj separated us from the people dining but I didn't notice them at all until later in the night and saw people dancing at their tables- ha ha It's a very nice patio and I love how it is right off the sand.

Thank you so much for your input. Your advice is very helpful and your pics are beautiful! Have you been to Aruba in July? Do you know what the weather and crowds are like then? I think it is still considered low season, but with kids out of school it might be a lot more crowded? Are all the condos etc, you mentioned on the same property?

Do you think I am crazy for not visiting the hotel before booking everything? Thanks again!
