My story starts about one year ago (on my March trip to Aruba 2013), DH and I decided that for NYE 2013 when we are in Aruba with our family and lots of friends it would be fun to organize a great beach party dinner. I spoke with a man who was supposedly a party planner to assist in arrangements. To make a very long story short, he was a fraud and thankfully I never got much farther than 2 phone calls. Angela Muzenhoffer, from this bb and a photographer, was so helpful and kind and directed me to another party planner. I spoke with party planner #2 numerous times in an attempt to make this party happen. Unfortunately, she gave me a million reasons why she couldn't call me or respond on a timely basis. She said that it would be difficult to get staff to work on NYE, etc. What we were trying to do was make a simple BBQ on the beach with a group of people but have a tent (in case of rain) but make it festive. Obviously, we would pay for the party planners time just as you would if it was a wedding. One last email in August that didn't get answered so I wasn't chasing her so I carried on with my original plan at a restaurant.
In December, for whatever reason, I called her to see if we could have a face to face meeting for NYE 2014 but she said that she isn't going to work during that time period (ok???) and gave me another party planners name to contact, which I happily did.
Next party planner(#3) we met just prior to leaving in early January and was happy to meet her. She seemed excited to be doing this kind of event and said I would not have issues getting staff to work, especially since I was willing to pay more money for labour. We set out what we wanted and she agreed to get me some preliminary costs and locations and send them to me shortly and we would meet again in March to make some finalization. Well....again no or slow responses and no information sent as needed. At the end of Feb. I get a email apologizing for not responding but she was busy with Carnival (fine, no problem) but would get me information in a few days. Again, nothing!!! I send an email stating I will be in Aruba in a week, no response, send an email that I am now in Aruba, I get a response and she apologizes that she has been sick for a few weeks but will get me the information within a few days. Yup...nothing! I send another email and I nicely say that if she doesn't want to do this party to please tell me so I will just move on. I get a response saying that SHE REALLY WANTS TO DO THIS PARTY but so sorry for everything and will get me the information in a few days. OMG... three days to my departure and NOTHING!!!! My last email to her explaining how disappointed I am with the entire situation and that I just can't work like this. While I can appreciate and understand she was sick but most of the information was promised to me in January well before Carnival or her illness. I need to hear from her on a timely basis if we are going to work together. Yes, you guessed it....NO RESPONSE!!
Ok, I just can't believe that two very reputable event planners are more interested in weddings than a party of 50 ppl where we would probably spend as much money on the event as a wedding?? I have read on this BB so many brides who have issues with getting email responses and the frustration working with many of these party planners. Now I have experienced it first hand. I guess not party for NYE 2014!
what do you think randi…………i think this is not appropriate for this section "wedding/honeymoon"
do you want it redirected to another location?
maybe the "general"?
also, your planners 2 and 3? did they indicate to you at all during your conversations that they do weddings only?
also did you ever try karen lutzker, who i had recommended? she is a member of this forum and her webisite says event planning.
This can be placed wherever you think is best. I put it in the Wedding section as it was a party/wedding planner. Both 2 and 3 said they would be happy to co ordinate this party. Both said they have organized other events, not just weddings.
I will contact Karen, thank you. Feeling a bit frustrated at the moment.
