1st Trip Next Week

Hi everyone. Thanks for all the helpful info I have found here.
I'm from Long Island, New York and will be arriving next week.
I am excited and nervous. I am traveling alone and was wondering if anyone can recommend a friendly place to hang out in the evening, where I wouldn't feel uncomfortable being alone. Middle-aged.
Also, is it safe to travel on the bus alone at night or should I stick to taxis?

What area are you staying in? There are usually many evening activities within walking distance.

Eagle Beach. I think its what they refer to as the low rise area.

I traveled alone this past June. I stuck around the resort at night. I was able to walk off the resort and across the street for shopping or take a stroll along the beach walkway. Speaking for me, I don't know if I would be comfortable taking a taxi or bus at night.

Speaking from experience, I did travel at night with taxi and bus and I felt okay, but again its up to individuals. The island is very safe compare to some other ones, and if you do not want to wonder, there are lots of things that go on with in Eagle beach and Palm Beach that you can walk to.

You will enjoy it and you will meet lots of people from the island and all around the World, you will not feel alone.

where on long island are you from? i live on eastern LI, the north fork.
to be honest with you, i would wait before i ventured on a bus at night by yourself, until you have been there a few days, cause you will meet lots of friendly people and new friendships will be made, and then you can make plans with your new friends! my sister and i came to aruba for the first time 6 years ago, and boy were we nervous about traveling about by ourselves! but we made friends with a fabulous group of people and had so much fun with them the entire trip. in fact our 6th trip is in 22 days and we have already made plans to meet with them for more fun in the sun!
you will have a marvelous time!

I've traveled to Aruba many times without my hubby and feel very comfortable there. I stay in the low rise hotel area (Amsterdam Manor) and if I'm in the mood to socialize I usually go over to Palm Beach (high rise hotel area) - there are alot of restaurants, shops, bars, hotel casinos...easy to walk from one to the other. I always rent a car but would not hesitate to use the bus or taxis at night. Palm Beach is only about 5-10 minutes away depending on which hotel you're staying at.

A fun place to hang out (staff is very friendly) is the Bugaloe Pier Bar which is located on Palm Beach between the Radisson and the Riu. It's a casual place (also has good casual food) and it's a fun, casual place to go - day or night. I go there alot when I'm sans hubby and I always end up meeting people and never feel uncomfortable being alone.
