Since 1980, and throughout the many changes, we still love going downtown in Oranjestad.

    Hi Elle,

You are sooo right. Aruba is addictive. The people (both Arubans and visitors), the climate, the beaches, the ocean, the very lively restaurant/bar/casino/club scene, and the shopping all combine to make Aruba a place like no other!

We live in Winnipeg, Canada and have been going to Aruba, on and off, since 1980. We usually go to Maui in May (leaving tomorrow) and Aruba in mid-January.

We have friends in Michigan. My wife's gf is originally from here but she married a fellow in Lansing. They now live in a town called Diamondale, at least I think thats what it's called.

And Elle, welcome to the forum!

    Regards,

    Glenn

    i like renaissance island because:

it is quiet when we are there (low season sort of)

the chairs and table/shade huts are usually available w/out issues

we like (not love) the snorkeling there along the seawall

we like (not love) the open air restaurant and the food is pretty good!

we like the convenience of having the rest rooms handy.

we like the convenience of being able to shower off before we get back on the boat.

what i do NOT like is the boat ride. it is only 12 minutes, but it takes me about 11 minutes to start to get seasick.

renaissance is not my home resort.
we stay there using interval trades.

Ralph, if God is willing, in about 25 years you will see me as a moderator of this forum and my profile pic will show my sun wrinkled skin with an Aruba sunset in the background. I am just slightly worried that I am so addicted to Aruba that I wont EVER want to go anywhere else! One knows they are addicted to Aruba when they view a youtube video featuring the island about once or twice a week! I just love it! I would so move there!

Yep it is Diamondale. It is boring, like the rest of Michigan... What do you like better Maui or Aruba? Do you and your wife have any desire to travel to other islands?

    Hi Elle,

My wife prefers Maui while my preference is Aruba.

Yes we've been to other islands. our favourites are Curacao (3x), Cayman Islands (5x) and The Bahamas (4x).

I have to ask you Elle. Are you a shopper? I seem to spend a fair bit of time in Aruba sitting on the stone bench outside Little Switzerland while she does her shopping thing.

Won't be taking the laptop with us to Maui, so I won't be back on here for 4 weeks. We'll etalk again when I get back in late May.

    Bye for now,

    Glenn

    Hey Glenn,

I am not a shopper. Not even when I get back to Michigan, do I like to shop. Tomboy at heart, perhaps. However, I am a snorkeler! Perhaps one day I will graduate to being a snuba-er!

After a few more trips to Aruba, I am planning on the Caymans. My current traveling buddies want to go to Jamaica. We might have to draw out of a hat! Then maybe somewhere in China. I have a friend going to Hong Kong in September and hopefully he will want to revisit and will offer to be my traveling partner someday.

Wow! Maui for 4 weeks? I had to beg my girlfriends to book an extra day in Aruba...(5 nights total). They were afraid of being homesick and missing their children. I dont think I could ever get tired of tropical islands. Ever. When I die, bury me in the sand...lol.

May you and the wifey have a beautiful and safe trip!!!

Oh my goodness, 27x's! Well I love Aruba but I really love sharing the time there with the ones I love. I feel like I have found the fountain of youth and just want to share it with everyone! I think that perhaps in my former life I was born in the Caribbean!
