First Time in Aruba (Transplants from St. Maarten)

Hello everyone! My girlfriend & I have a timeshare in St. Maarten and have been going there for the past 11 years ( first 2 weeks in November) but unfortunately due to hurricane Irma our little island has been destroyed along with our vacation plans this year. We decided to come to Aruba for a week and will be staying at the Barcelo all-inclusive on Palm beach. We both love the beach, live music, good food, casinos & fun crowds. Has anyone stayed at this resort? Is it within walking distance to other hotels, action, fun activities?? We won't be renting a car so will be walking & would like any input from anyone in this forum. Thanks so much and can't wait to see everything Aruba has to offer. If we enjoy it, we will be coming back every year!

Welcome to the forum... sorry you lost your paradise for this year. Aruba is a paradise you'll really love. The Barceló is right smack in the center of Palm Beach so you're not gonna have a shortage of activities and won't need a car. You will love your stay... and be back next year!

hello zizi and welcome to the aruba.com community forum! (finally huh., sorry it took awhile to get you registered)

I am sad that St. Maarten got badly attacked by Irma. The destruction is unimaginable. Sorry

Palm Beach is an awesome location and you will not wanting for things to do. Tons of shoppng, nightlife , restaurants, casinos and an awesoe beach.

The Barcelo has had recent changes........and it is a good thing.
Lots of folks love the place and it has a wonderful beach area.
The food/beverage program has improved dramatically over the last number of months.

I think that you will be a happy camper.

When will you be in Aruba?QUOTE=zizi5678;322928]Hello everyone! Welcome to the Aruba.com Community Forum! Like CP says, you are going to LOVE Aruba and really are right in the middle of so much. Walking distance to many restaurants, clubs, bars, casinos, hotels.

My husband and I have been to St. Maarten 5 or 6 times and are very sadden to see the devastation that has happened there. I was shocked when I saw the pictures and even more stunned when I saw the captions of where the pictures were taken and I didn't recognize it as places I knew. We have friends who own in the Simpson Bay area and are still hoping to go to their timeshare in February for 3 weeks as they have done for 15 or 20 years. Where do you own in St. Maarten?

As great as St. Maarten is, we always felt that Aruba is much nicer. It is easier to get around-both walking and by car-the infrastructure is much better. Even though you are in an area that has everything you need, try to get out, either by tour or renting a car or jeep for a day or two or, and explore the island. The terrain differs in the different parts of the island and there is so much to see and do.

    Beautiful beaches everywhere.

There are great restaurants everywhere-no long drives on dark winding roads out to Grand Case(I hated the drive, loved the restaurants. I so hope they rebuild.).

You will fall in love with Aruba.

    Welcome to the forum.
First I am so sorry to hear about St. Maarten. It is a beautiful island. One of my favorite places to visit. But they are strong people and with each other they will build it back bigger and better. And I do look forward to going back there again.
As for Aruba you will fall in LOVE with it as you did with St. Maarten and this too will become a favorite for you as it is for us.
Enjoy yourself there. Make sure you come back and write a review.

Thank you all for your comments. I am super excited & can't wait till November 4th to start enjoying our vacation! One more note..I noticed there is a Soprano's piano bar very close to the Barcelo. There was one in St. Maarten also that we frequented often while on our vacation. Does anyone know if they are similar?

One thing I would suggest to at least take a guided tour of the island! You mentioned you won't be renting a car, but in my opinion the better, more genuine parts of the island are elsewhere. You definitely won't be let down!
