    first timer

Hi.. I just booked my first trip to Aruba. It will be in June. I am staying at the Aruba Beach Club.... Please send suggestions for how to get there from the airport to how to get around without renting a car... and good local places to eat.

I am so excited to be travelling to Aruba. I am newly retired and gave this trip as a gift to myself!!

    congratulations on your retirement.
welcome to the aruba.com community forum.
i advise you to visit the GETTING AROUND ARUBA category and read about TAXI FARES and about car rentals.

my husband and i have stayed at the ABC (AUG 2010 and MAY 2002, 03 and 2006 ) We love ABC and their beach area and the convenience on being right there in a very good location.

If you do not plan on a car rental, the taxis will know how to get to ABC.
ABC is also on the bus route, sort of.
The bus stop is a 5 minute walk and the stop is near the casino.

Welcome,I think it's great that you gave yourself a retirement gift.I'm sure you'll love the Island.I've met many people over the years and have created many friends both in the US and abroad.

Take taxis.fairly cheap and always available. The buses are good too.
Hit up Salt and Peppers for some fried grouper.Delicious.

We'll be there in April for a week.

Matthews restaurant is at the Casa Del Mar. Hard to beat and basicly CDM and Aruba Beach Club are connected. You can use the pool at CDM as well. Tortuga grill at ABC has great breakfast. There is a Dushi Bagel place on the street in front of ABC. Pizza Bobs is at the Costa Linda just a couple of blocks away and they deliver to ABC. If you want to do a little walking, The Promenade restaurant is about a mile toward town across from the 4 way stop light just past the Tamerjn resort. Chalet Suiss, one of our favorite restaurants is about a mile north of ABC.
The bus stops across the side street from the Alhambra casino. I think it is $2 for a round trip ticket to town. There are many restaurants in town that are easily walked too.
If you go to www.arubabeachclub.info and go to property photos, then down to aerial views, and select punta brabo you will see an aerial view of ABC, Casa Del Mar, Alhambra casino Bucuti resort and Manchebo resort. The picture will magnify so you see a lot of detail. Enjoy your trip.

Thank you so much for the quick responses and great ideas... I feel comfortable already!
I cannot wait to walk along the beach, and just check out every possible inch... I think with all of the food options, I should walk everywhere!
I am already starting a notebook of ideas, so I do not miss anything.

    New too

I am new to this forum as well and I have to reply to shels and confirm..... you will be back again. My husband and I visited a few years ago (believe it or not we couldn't get a timeshare exchange for Florida). Time off was near, we called and said where can we get a unit where it's warm? (We are in Maine) The only unit available at that time (in the Caribbean) was in Aruba and I said "book it". There was no question where we'd go the following year (last year). We'd had a fabulous time, relaxing, met wonderful people, and were Happy the entire time, ate great food etc., etc. It was perfect. Last year we bought a unit at La Cabana just to be sure we had at least one week. We exchange another unit and go for two. Will arrive March 17th, can't wait. I'm already packed. Try Hadicurari Restaurant, right on the beach, Palm/Eagle Beach. Most important, get out an explore the island and enjoy. Congratulations on your retirement!
