Cool First Timer - Planning Surprise Birthday Bash

    Hi Everyone,

First off...thanks for providing such great information about all-things Aruba. The helpfulness of all and the wonderful 'vibe' of the site is greatly appreciated!

I'm a pretty experienced traveler but this will be my first (but I'm sure not last) time to Aruba. I'm surprising my girlfriend with a 5-day trip in early October. I've got the flight (direct out of Orlando) and have narrowed our accomodations to about four spots. Whichever I select, Eagle Beach will be our base camp and we'll have a car (still need to secure that) to explore the island.

As my user name probably gives away, I am a long-time animal rescuer. Not only of dogs and cats (as most people would associate) but also abused, abandoned, or neglect farmed animals including horses, cows, goats, donkeys, pigs, turkeys, sheep and other critters. As a result, I'm also a long-time vegan so food options while vacationing can sometimes be a bit of a struggle. Thankfully, forums like this one and also apps like Happy Cow help greatly.

So, that all stated, I'm trying to find something special to do on 'birthday evening' such as a sunset cruise, special dinner, or other memorable activity. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks again for this great site!

    Lee

Welcome to the forum and you are correct, most likely your first will not be your last visit to Aruba.....happy planning! I'm sure you will have many responses as to what special activity is best. I think a dinner sunset cruise would be nice, although have not been on one so cannot suggest which one.

    welcome animal rescuer!
    (we are neigbhors. in lakeland..)

vegan lifestyle is kind of difficult to do on vacation.
if it had a face or a mother, you dont consume it.

    i recommend a sunset sail!

in the search menu on the upper right...... type in sunset sail!
Depalm, tranquilo, octopus, morningstar are a few of the awesome ones.

Sorry - off topic but this references food, dinner and the world of non-meat eaters....The word "vegan" always reminds me of the movie, "Notting Hill":

Back on topic: do you want a fun dinner or a romantic dinner? I assume you're used to working around the vegan requirement in non-vegan restaurants?

    Thanks Andrea

Your suggestion of a sunset cruise is right in line with my thinking. At this point, the Black Pearl cruise looks great as I'm a certified diver and my girlfriend loves to snorkel, so this will allow us water-time plus a sunset cruise.

For romantic, a great option is "Elements" at the "Bucuti and Tara" resort - dining on the sand, beautiful views of the sea and impeccable service. They do vegan upon request so maybe mention it in advance... here's their current dinner menu:

And... for fun... Yemanja Woodfire Grill has a great atmosphere, killer cocktails and will do vegan on some dishes:

Hi Lee & welcome to the Aruba.com Community Forum!

I was going to suggest Elements as well, or maybe Passions or Barefoot for an on the sand experience. Either way I would absolutely suggest contacting them via email or call using Skype or similar before heading down to discuss menu options.

Welcome to the forum Lee..... I 2nd act1966 and 3rd (?) Jacki for Elements.... you can also opt to sit on the deck with the same magnificent views. We've dined there twice and the total experience was wonderful and romantic.
