    First Timers

Howdy! We will be on the island in June! Just worried about typical stuff at this point... Zika, vaccinations, excursions, food, and convincing the Marriott to upgrade our room! 20th wedding anniversary, so any advice is welcome. We are bringing our own snorkel gear, but don't plan on renting a car.

    welcome to the forum !!!
Is this your first time to Aruba ??? If you are at the Marriott you are well positioned for restaurants, shopping, and of course sun and water sports !!!!
DePalm Tours has a bunch of excursions...trips around island including the Natural Pool which I say everyone has to do once...your concierge at hotel can hook you up.
They also have the booze trips on the open buses (old school buses) all decked out caribbean style, Jolly Pirates where you do a snorkel, cruise and booze tour all in one...that's fun, they also have a rope swing where you can swing out over boat and drop into water.
Recommendations for Zika is to slather up with suntan lotion and also a bug spray containing deet......I think you just have to be on guard and use common sense !!!
As for the Marriott...good luck there.....but maybe if they know its your 20th ( congrats...)they will at least give you an ocean view !!!!!
Have fun and post your trip afterwards .......

welcome to the aruba.com community forum

i think that the zika thing is a concern to many.

    vaccinations? none are required

i recommend that you search arund on the forum re: food (culinary category) excursions (check on the activities/sports)

re: the marriott. unless you are a frequent marriott customer, no upgrade is free.

snorkeling..........catalina cove is on the bus route and you can catch the bus right out in front of the marriott.

    enjoy and again, welcome

Interesting to know that the Marriott does not give any free upgrades. I wonder if they give them to Ritz card holders being that they own the Ritz???? Have a great 1st trip and happy 20th.

If you sign up for Marriott Rewards, you do have a chance of getting an upgrade. Not a great one, but still a chance.

Bon Bini to the Aruba forum!! You're in great company here who will be sure to provide you with a lot of good advice to make you trip a great one among the first of many. Make the most of your time on the island, be sure to set aside enough time to kick back and relax; and if there is any activity, place or event that you did not get a chance to do or attend on your trip. There is always your next visit, hence the reason a lot of us keep returning to visit. That and the fact that we just LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Aruba!!
