    First Trip!

    Hi everyone,

My wife and I have decided to take the plunge and have planned a 10 day trip to Aruba Feb 10 - 20, 2018. We religiously visit Mexico annually (usually Playa del Carmen), but we decided to "mix it up" for 2018. Flights are booked, will likely be booking resort (Hilton Aruba Caribbean Resort and Casino) in the next couple for weeks. If anyone can provide tips and tricks, that would be just great... Was thinking thinks like transfers to and from the resort from the airport, must visit restaurants (somewhat close to the resort), must do adventures, etc, etc.

We are looking very forward to this trip, however, must confess that it is outside of our comfort zone a little (see note about annual trips to Mexico).

Thanks everyone, the countdown clock has officially been hit!

welcome to the aruba.com community forum

i advise that you take tons of time reading this forum, especially "My Aruba Story" category.

transfers from the airport....might be easier and less expensive to take a taxi to and from airport.http://www.aruba.com/sigma/Aruba_Taxi_Fares.pdf
10 days will give you tons of beach time and tons of touring/activities time.

night and day differences between playa del carmen and aruba.

you will enjoy being able to meander around off resort property in the evenings.

    many many dining options.

Welcome to the forum. I'm sure you will love Aruba. Transfer to the resort from the airport is simple as there is a line of taxis waiting out front and someone is there to direct you. The Hilton is within walking distance of a number of restaurants. Also, check out the culinary thread on this forum as there are a lot of restaurant reviews.

If if you like to snorkel, Black Pearl has a wonderful cruise with 2 snorkel stops. It's not crowded and pretty laid back but it does fill up fast. You might also enjoy one of the trike tours. Happy planning!!!

Yep, agree with the beach time... Thanks for the info, in fact, I did read on here that taxi's may be the best route with regards to the transfers.

Curious - The location where the resort is (Palm Beach), it appears as though there are many shops and restaurants within walking distance (10 - 15 minutes'ish). Is this accurate or is the location more secluded?

    Thanks again!

Welcome to the forum... the Hilton is a magnificent property and right in the middle of Palm Beach... you'll have no shortage of dining and shopping options nearby for a safe short walk. Definitely taxi from the airport.... will save about 30 minutes and be cost effective.

Excellent cpjones, thanks for that info. I was hoping that this property was not secluded as we really do like to stroll, experience new cuisine, meet new people and people watch!

Happy to help...! Check out the culinary & culture section for restaurant reviews. Everyone has their favorite restaurants and some of ours in the Palm Beach area include:

Sunset Grille which is the Hilton's premier restaurant. Great atmosphere, food and perfect service.

Mme J's.... http://www.madamejanette.info/joomla2/ only a 10 minute cab ride for a very romantic setting with wow food and service.

Smokey Joe's http://www.smokeyjoesaruba.com/ just a couple of hundred yard walk to a busy casual rib and chicken place.

Bugaloe Beach Bar http://www.bugaloe.com/ on the pier between the Hilton and the Rui. A great place for lunch or happy hour.

Finally.... when you select a palapa on the beach in front of the Hilton stay to the north end by Gilligan's to minimize the day trippers from the cruise ships that camp at the other end of the beach.

Super info cpjones, thanks! I did see that suggestion regarding the palapa on another thread, really, really good to know. It's gone into the "list of things to remember".
