    I'm Mark...new to the forum...

    Hi folks,

Wanted to introduce myself. I've been reading the forum for a few months but decided to become a member. (Thanks for your help Andrea.) My wife Roberta and I live in Rhode Island. We have been to Aruba three times...all between 2002 and 2005. We LOVED it. For the next 10 years, we visited several other destinations in the Caribbean. Although we loved those vacations, we never found a destination as wonderful as Aruba. So, tomorrow, 4/27, we are flying out on vacation to Aruba! Very, very excited.

We are staying at the Hilton...formerly the Rad. Excited about that. We love the Palm Beach area and it's activity. (On our previous three trips, we stayed at the Holiday Inn twice and the Wyndham...now the Rui...once.)

I have a few questions I'd love to bounce off you folks if you don't mind. I understand there have been HUGE changes in the Palm Beach area. What can I expect? Any new restaurants worth exploring?

Also, how are palapas handled at the Hilton? First come first serve?

One more question...we don't have dinner reservations for tomorrow and would prefer to play it loosely. Can anyone recommend a nice, casual restaurant on Palm Beach within walking distance from the Hilton that we could probably get a table without a reservation? If you feel a Wednesday evening would be busy no matter where we try, I'll call in a reservation somewhere when we get to our room. We like Salt & Pepper but maybe someone can recommend another place. We like to explore.

Hope I'm not being a pest, lol! I'll probably have a few more questions. Also, if I should post questions in a different area on the forum, just let me know.

    Thanks everyone,
    Mark
    (PS...I'm psyched!)

Any of the restaurants near Salt & Pepper should be easy to get into without a reservation, especially at this time of year. You could try Fishes & More or Casa Tua (both in the same Arawak Gardens where Salt & Pepper is located.) You could also go to the Bugaloe (pier bar by the Hilton) but if it's a live music night it will be hard to get a seat.

    Have a great trip!

    Hi Mark,

Welcome to the Aruba.com Community Forum

I love the idea of playing it by ear on the first night. Like Amy said I'm sure you will find a place in that area.

Not being a pest at all. As I'm sure you know by now, many of us love the questions and are grateful to have someone to talk Aruba with

You can't get much more casual than Smokey Joe's !
Also consider Casa Tua in the same area as Salt & Pepper or Moomba Beach, just a a short walk towards the Marriotts
    Enjoy your Vacation

    Hi Mark!

Welcome to the forum! It's been 11 years since you have been to Aruba. Wow, it's a long time and many things have changed.
I'm psyched reading about your experience and adventures.

    Have a safe trip tomorrow!

Welcome to the forum.... you'll be blown away by all the development across from the Radisson and all along that strip..... the additional hotels on Palm Beach too. No problem finding a first night dinner without reservations. Scala is another good choice.

When the Hilton was the Radisson you could sign up the afternoon around 3 for the next day. They also had palapas to rent with better locations for up to 3 days out (I think).... end of April should be no problem getting one.

Welcome to the forum Mark. Our go to tends to be Salt and Pepper although I also like Casa Tua. This time of year we have never needed a reservation. I would suggest just walking over by S&P to see if any of the other restaurants interest you.

Welcome and enjoy your trip. Bugaloe is a great spot to start your trip. The Hilton has a couple of different ways to reserve a Palapa. You can wait in line the day before and sign up for one the following day for free. I want to say the sign-up is around 4pm, but they starting lining up early. You can also pay for one in advance. We when stayed there I paid to make sure we always had shelter and did not have to stand in line.
