New the forum and Aruba

Hello everyone, My wife and I are heading to Aruba for the first time in September of this year. We are routine St Martin vacationers trying a new island. We are staying at the Marriot Suf Club only because of my Marriott points give us a free week. Wondering about a rental car. I have been told that you don't need one being taxi's are cheap, etc. We usually get one in St Martin to travel around. What do you all suggest? Are glad you rent one or is it a waste of money?

Also looking for must eat at restaurants.

Thanks

B

Welcome to the board.

Car is a matter of choice. We like the advantage of having one so we can go as we please. I believe you can rent a Yaris for around $200.00 per week. For a first trip, I might recommend renting a car for 3 days. Taxi cost isn't that bad, especially to go to resturants.

To many "must eat" resturants to list. Everyone has their favorites. Some of ours are: Wacky Wahoo, Chalet Suisse, Madamn Janette's, Old Fisherman, Salt & Pepper to name a few.

When are you arriving? We will be there Sept. 9 thru Oct.

If you would like a copy of the "Aruba Experience" PM me you address & I Will send one to you. It is a nice guide on shopping, dining & other activities. It also contains a map of the island.

Sent out the Aruba Experience today. I included the Island Gourmet, but it is last years issue.

Thanks much.. We are excited to try a new Island. Are there places to eat and get drinks, etc along the beach. I have tried to find some pictures of vacationers with beach pictures but haven't found much.

thanks

On Palm Beach, the resorts all have beach bars. The Riu and Occidental however are all inclusive resorts. Still plenty of place to choose from:
MooMba
Holiday Inn

Pelican's Nest- on a pier between the Holiday Inn and Playa Linda
Playa Linda
Hyatt- Piets Pier Bar and Palms Beach Bar
Radisson- Gilligan's Beach Bar & Grill
Bugaloe- on a pier between the Radisson and Riu
Tambu Bar- Westin
Seabreeze- Divi Phoenix

Hopefully that is all of them.
