    Welcome Shelly,
Love the fact you are a water enthusiast....I love the water and Aruba is the perfect place to do many water related activities.....You can take windsurf lessons as well as kitesurfing...you can learn to scuba, or if not that interested you can take a trip to snuba which is a little of both snorkel and scuba...nice way to see if you like scuba...
The island is welcoming, warm and lovely. Crime is something that is in-escapable, but you can feel extremely safe on Aruba. Just use common sense like you would anywhere else in the world.
Have fun.....make sure you get to the natural pool which is sounds like you will with your tour...coolest place !!!!
Again, welcome and post pix from your trip !!!!
    ARUBA....HOME AWAY FROM HOME

Needing to speak out my emotions and since you all welcomed me to ramble before i will do so here. For years I have traveled to the same destination in jamaica up to 5 different trips a year. I have been all over the world solo but that one keeps me coming back i how always active and full of solos to connect with.Due to the growing violence there I decided to try a new place. Aruba looks beautiful but I think if I had taken more time to investigate I would not have chosen this destination.
My reasons for saying that are what has me more scared and anxious about this trip than excited counting down the days. I am a very very social person and very active and outgoing. In Jamaica solo travelers are the most common and to be at one bar you will meet 20 in a day and just being there come upon folks to go to music and activities daily. What I am finding in every thread on TA with every information everywhere is that does not appear to be common in Aruba. Everyone seems to be couples or groups coming. I am not a 3rd wheel type person but also not a sit somewhere alone person I will just go back to room and pout. When with a group I will dance and sing and drink the night away until 4 to 5 am in other destinations. I am so concerned at this point my stomach is in knots and as everyday people now say aren't you leaving soon are you excited I am answering no to excited. I am very anxious and apprehensive.
Is this all for nothing, am I just reading in all the wrong places?
Costa Rica & Cozumel looked so fun and yet I spent every single night in my room sulking for hours after the excursions were done for the day nothing to do anywhere traveling solo.
Did I get myself in that boat again??
Sorry to rant and Whine in advance...

honestly, i have no idea what to say.
if you are a quiet and a person not to initiate conversation, then i would probably worry.

yes, there are tons of couples, tons of groups, and yes singles!!

you will be staying in a busy area of palm beach.
make certain that you visit the happy hours, seat yourself next to an interesting looking person that appears to be alone or with a group.
(age should not matter.....when my husband and i were younger in our 40s we had some awesome aruba times with friends who were in their 70s)

    begin AT the AIRPORT.
seat yourself at the gate area near someone that looks like you would not mind being around.
    take it from there!

you are taking a MADI tour. hopefully there'll be some folks there that you can hang with.

visit Bugaloe Beach Bar and you will meet folks.

get the sulking in your room out of your mind!!!

i cannot tell you not to worry as "worry is my middle name"

    when are you leaving??

First off, welcome to the forum Shelly. Secondly, congratulations on selecting Aruba as your next destination. Since you have decided to stay at the Holiday Inn you have picked a great spot to experience Aruba and Palm Beach first hand. Be aware that Aruba is not like other destinations you have visited in the past. Aruba is very safe and you should have no worries going out by yourself. There is no "staying in the compound after dark", you are free to roam and enjoy just about everywhere. You mentioned being close to Moomba and that is a perfect place to hang out, the bartenders and staff are absolutely terrific. I'm sure you will make friends there your first night. Pelican Pier is also right by the HI and has a fun happy hour and pretty good grouper. Go down the beach a ways to Scott's Brats for breakfast or lunch and meet a great couple (Scott and Leslie) that are from Wisconsin living the dream. The bus is a great way to get around and cabs are regulated, so their fares are a set rate.
So don't let anxiety or apprehension slow you down. You will have a great time in Aruba. You will meet friendly people that will be friends forever, and don't forget we on the forum have your back. If there is anything you need to know before or after you get to Aruba, just ask. Most of us live to help others discover and love our Island.

People are very friendly in Aruba. Sit at a bar, have a drink, and people will talk to you.

    Hi Wisconsin!
I hope that you are able to connect with some people before you head to Aruba...maybe even make some plans before you get there. Im sure like you past trips, you'll meet some new people to hang with. Just make the most of your trip. Enjoy a spotted cow beer for me up there as my stock that I had down here is dwindling down

Thank You so much everyone Andrea I arrive the 18th. I am sure it will be fine. I am linking with many people that will be there same time via trip advisor its just they are there with children and couples. My kind of vacation fun not child appropriate for the most part. I signed up for Kukoo bus the day I arrive. Although I will be tired this should be a great chance for me to meet others right away and they will be others with like minded vacation plans. I am not what anyone would call quiet but I do not initiate conversations with strangers. Which once you meet me will blow your mind as I am loud and dont shut up LOL. Moombas is my day two plan and Scotts Brats is day two also. I dont arrive until 4 and am getting picked up on kukoo bus at 6 after getting up at 4 am for flights I am sure I will be ready for bed when that is done at 12. Sorry for my panic it will be fine I'm sure just over worrying.
Thank You again so much everyone for your input!
