New Member... Off to Aruba on 28 October!!!!

Okay, I confess. I have been lurking as a guest of this forum for quite a while now!
I really enjoy this place and I learn a lot. All of you folks are so polite, knowledgeable, and friendly. I feel so very much at home here, that I decided to join.
    Some info about me:
Since 1987 my wife, Barbara, and I have been traveling from Maine to Aruba. In August of '87 one set of grandparents volunteered to take our three young children for a week so we could take a trip. We settled on a very inexpensive charter flight from Boston to Aruba.
We stayed at the Talk of the Town. Back then Mr. Cohen owned both Talk of the Town and the Best Western at Manchebo Beach ( Manchebo Beach Resort). Part of our stay included a free daily taxi ride to the Manchebo resort. We really enjoyed that section of the beach. One day we went exploring different properties and came upon Casa del Mar, a timeshare near the Manchebo resort. Before we left the island we purchased a two bedroom unit and have been traveling to Aruba ever since,
Currently, we are cashing in some Delta miles to travel to Aruba for a two week stay on October 28tth. My wife has an illness that has limited her mobility and she now uses a walker to go short distances. She uses a scooter for longer distances. At one point she was not able to walk or move on her own. She was so bad off that she spent the last two years in a nursing home. Last May she came home. One of the first things she said when she got in the house was that she wanted to get strong enough to get back to Aruba. Her dream is going to come true very soon. Going to Aruba is the best way we can celebrate the progress she's made.
We know it will be an interesting trip full of challenges, but it will be so great to experience Aruba again with my wife.
Thanks all for being members of such a great forum and for letting me share a little about us.

welcome to you richard and barbara.

you hit the nail on the head....one word "polite".
we do our darndest to provide an informative, fun and respectful site.

mr cohen...one heck of a guy. he is sorely missed.

i am so glad that barbara has recovered enough to not only come home, but to get to have her trip to aruba.
    GOD bless her.

welcome! you will have to now do some more postings.

i know of a few other forum members that have some mobility issues, so you and barbara's perspective on the accessibility of places will be much appreciated.
so, please post a review on your return in "my aruba story"

Welcome to the forum and the posting side! I truly believe Aruba has healing powers and I'm glad to hear that your wife will realize her dream of going back to Aruba. My husband had a liver transplant about a year and a half ago. The first thing he wanted to do when he was able, was go back to Aruba. That trip for us was magical. I'm sure yours will be too!

    Hello Richard and Barbara,
Thank you for sharing such a beautiful story. It is wonderful to hear that Aruba has become a part of your lives (as it has for all of us on the forum) and it is so inspiring to hear about your plans for this upcoming trip and the reasons that make this visit so special. I think that is the most wonderful aspect of Aruba that no matter how long or short is has been from your last visit, and no matter what month of the year you decide to travel, that same unforgettable vacation experience will be waiting for you....as if no time has passed at all. Welcome to the forum.

Great to hear that you are making back to Aruba!!! We will be there the same time period, staying at the Holiday Inn, at any given time we will have between 6 and 20 people together on the beach, mostly from the NJ, NY, Mass, COnnn., area. So, if you and Barbara make your way to palm beach area, you are more them welcome to stop by for a cocktail or three, we jokeingly call our group the Jersey trailer park, and we are easy to find, just ask for John from Jersey...
    SAFE TRIP, John

    Jersey John,
Thanks for the invitation! We are not sure about being able to walk on the beach, but we are going to try. If things work out physically, we will take you up on the invite.
