Sounds like you hit the jackpot when it comes to neighbors. That's a huge plus! Maybe I missed it because I've been mesmerized by the food pics, but have you been to the beach much, or do you just stick to the pool mainly? Also wondering if you planning to rent your house out when you aren't using it? Not asking for rental reasons, just being nosey, um I mean curious..lol
LOL - yes, we certainly won the lottery on neighbours!
Our friends we had down were concerned about her being able to navigate the sand given the challenges she was experiencing.
We tend to hit the beach once or twice but it's not a big thing for us - everything is convenient here by the pool (food, washroom, booze... did I mention booze?) so we tend to be lazy about going to the beach... usually when somebody new comes down. I'm not a fan of crowds either. Buying down here was about the weather and being in a pool in Jan/Feb.
We're debating the rental question - it's a split vote right now. We're probably going to limit it to just family and good friends for now. We're not fans of strangers using our stuff!
I want your neighbors! On our last trip I discovered chicken shawarma and garlic sauce. It was fabulous. I asked about the seasoning in the shawarma and they said you can by the spice at the grocery store. The container is labeled shawarma spice.
The garlic sauce is really easy to make, as well. You just need a food processor.
As the days creep along, our pool-time becomes exponentially longer and longer. Lots of sun yesterday with more in store for today.
We did take a break at one point and go for a jaunt to the Do It Center and Superfood but rushed back to the pool.
Our neighbour recommended a pizza joint in Santa Cruz for us to try ("Urataka Center Best Pizza" http://urataka.businesscatalyst.com ) so we headed down late in the day to pick up wings and a pie.
The pizza is named "SuperBurger Pizza" and it tasted like, surprise, surprise, a burger! Both were good. Pizza's pretty subjective though so obviously you'd have to try it to see if it works for you; we enjoyed both.
Their location is a little far off the beaten resort path but it's definitely a local favourite - the place was packed, inside and out. Here's a location link:
