The Spouse and our guests did some work for our neighbour to secure a trellis on her property while I barrelled out to the regular haunts to pick up ingredients for baked ziti as we'll be staying in on Sunday night and our friends have never had this dish before. It's the "America's Test Kitchen" version for anyone that's interested in trying it - I have yet to meet someone who didn't like it!
We had a picnic lunch by the pool. At one point, I uttered, "This is January" and everyone burst out laughing.
The "Drink Wars: The Strawberry Daiquiri Awakens" late in the afternoon to prep us for our sojourn to "Wilhelmina's" in the evening.
We were a little concerned that we'd oversold "Wilhelmina's" to our friends but it was an amazing night (more on that in Culinary) and the place was packed. I was worried as we'd arrived at 7:30 and only a few tables were seated but, by 8:00, the restaurant was full - including the bar (yes, which you can eat at). They're definitely making a go of it. We ran into Paul from "Two Fools and A Bull" while we were there (he was at the bar). Small world/island!
One little blip in the evening: none of the taxi phone numbers I had in my mobile work any longer! It was a bit of a panic because we had to get from Noord to downtown for a 7:30 table. Luckily, our neighbour was in and surfaced a number for us. It would help if the ATA would provide a list of up-to-date phone numbers (along with a rate chart) on the website so people aren't struggling to get around the island.
Another low-key day. Totally decompressed from work now so no stress equals productive laziness!
We hit Kooyman for the first time this trip - we spent most of the last trip in there! A quick purchase and back to floating in the pool.
We had dinner in (we have to find some way to pay for those exorbitant Wilhelmina dinners LOL!). I made baked ziti with sausages which is a staple for us up north. Quite the panic trying to navigate a new kitchen though, "Where is everything?!?" "The oven is gas...?!?" Nothing a few glasses of chianti didn't cure.
Our friend made grilled pound cake on the barbecue with cherries, peaches and coffee ice cream. Yes, "light". Oink!
We all flaked out in the living room and watched the "Golden Globes" - how they got Ricky Gervais and Mel Gibson on the same stage is nothing short of a miracle and beyond me but hilarious nevertheless.
Our friends fly out tomorrow... they're already talking about renting a villa for two months next year!
Love every single post! Thanks so much for taking the time! I (and many others) really appreciate it....even if I am jealous of your platters, glassware & containers!
You're welcome, Jackie! It's a fun way to capture memories of each trip. The Spouse is thinking of turning all the old posts into one of those Apple hard cover coffee-table books! You know... because people like to flip through posts about Kooyman shopping and ebola scares LOL
Wait until you see me with a platter full of glassware on a Segway...
