The excitement never stops - get your caffeine jolt ready for this post:

We're starting to get that "local" feeling by a strange way: we went to Arugas to buy a filled propane tank for our barbecue. Lining up, we noticed we had the same indifferent look as everybody else in line. LOL. Hurry up and wait!! We've also tried out some Papiamento much to the delight of some of the locals.

We've replaced all the incandescent and CFL light bulbs around the house (interior and exterior) with LED - not a small feat... it took awhile changing every single light in the joint but now the light is warmer and we're saving two-thirds on electricity used from lights - there, we've done our bit for the environment and promoted it as well. "Martyr" is the word you're looking for.

We had contractors in to do some upgrades.

Some well-deserved pool time for saving the environment.

We can't find a vacuum to save our lives. I don't think vacuums are a big seller on the island because it's all tile so everybody must mop the floors. We've seen some vacuums but all of questionable quality and finding replacement bags for some of the off-brand vacuums would prove a challenge down the road.

    Still awake?

We headed out to Gostoso's for dinner (Culinary) and started to see smatterings of Xmas lights on the drive. Aruba doesn't mess around when it comes to Christmas.

Yes, the contractors were excellent. Professional, knew what they were doing, cleaned up after. Great experience!

Wow! A home in Aruba. Congratulations! I loved your post. I laughed out loud while reading it, and I am still smiling. No smiles when it comes to a slow access to the island. Hopefully things will improve, and soon.
    Best wishes to you folks.
    Rick

A quiet day spent doing things around the house and the regular trip to Lings. We tried the marinaded chicken from the meat counter: I wouldn't recommend it... very dry and not much flavour (we bought the Piri Piri and Montreal marinaded).

Some pool time with a visit from El Presidente.

We're hitting "Wilhelmina" and "Kitchen Table" this week which we've been really looking forward to.

The hunt for a solid vacuum continues. The mother-in-law says we don't need a vacuum, "It's tile! Get a scrub brush and a bucket!" She forgets that she raised a lazy generation... even using a vacuum seems like a pain.

Thanks for the lings chicken update. However the marinade Grouper is terrific.

i think "shark" makes a vacuum that does not require bags. can you find one in aruba? if not they are lightweight enough that
you could bring on your next visit.

you may want to check with housekeeping dept at one of the resorts to see what they use and where they found it?
however i think on tile they use a broom or dry mop and then a wet mop.

    Continue to enjoy!

    Thanks for the daily smiles!

    Who is El Presidente?

Here is a link to Aruba's Small Appliances dealers. Maybe they have what you are looking for?

I feel your pain with cleaning tiles, our entire house here in Texas is tiled. Besides a vacuum machine, I also use a Haan steam cleaner to sanitize the floors. I like that much better than a mop and bucket.

Is the camera crew already on the island?

Good luck with your hunt of a vacuum.

But more important: Enjoy your stay!

That's a good possibility! I didn't even know that there was a beer with that name.

My first thought was: is it a neighborhood dog or cat which came to visit! LOL
