We fly out of Buffalo via Southwest usually has 2 flights a day (early AM), with only 1 stop, so the total trip is just over 7 hrs.
Even with the Cdn exchange - it's way cheaper than TO and way easier to get thru.

I couldn't do that - two customs lines (US and Aruba), a stop over (and, in a lot of cases, a plane change) and the 1.5 hour drive (at a minimum) from Toronto to Buffalo? I'd be bonkers after nine-plus hours of travel knowing I can be in Aruba in just over five hours flying direct from Pearson Int'l. And there would be too many points in the trip where things could go wrong and delay getting to Aruba even further.

LOL - I was actually quite surprised at how easy & smooth it's been (only done it twice - #3 will be in a couple of weeks). Last year we were 7 people (6 adults & 1 teenager; flight was $157 + $213 return, US funds) so the savings were quite substantial. This year we are 4 (3 adults, 1 teenager), it was $179 + $269 US return. We go Friday, and stay at the Holiday Inn and still come out ahead, with a bonus day in Aruba
Return is with American - just over 7 hours + the extra hour drive home. We opt for a later flight (after 4:30), so we can still enjoy a good portion of our last day on the island, no customs in Buffalo (US customs in Aruba), and breeze over the boarder for the drive home (late at night, there's no-one there).
I don't think I'd consider it flight time with stop-over was 7.5 hours or longer.
