The already late behind the 8 ball ArubaCurt/burghboy trip report

Got started a bit late on this one. This has been one hectic lead up to a vacation. Was kind of last minute so there were a lot of down to the wire preparations that needed to be made. I didn't even have a pre-flight hotel or rental car confirmed until about 2pm Friday afternoon.

Ended up staying at the Springhill Suites in Newark the night before we were to leave. 1.5 hour drive for a 7am flight, no thank you. For me its worth the extra cost to go up the night before. Had to cut the grass Sat morning and then got caught up watching the Pitt/Penn state game so got on the road later than I wanted. Arrived in Newark about 6:30-7ish. Got take out from Dinosaur BBQ and Chipotle. Wasn't bad but I would have opted for a sit down Italian or Mediterranean spot if I had it my way. Didn't realize Jacki lived that close, would have loved to have met her for a drink.

Ended up only getting about 3 hours of sleep for the second night in a row. That sucked! But I would be on my way to Aruba in the morning so I had lots of energy regardless. More to come later.

Getting the stink eye as I sit here typing so I will catch up when I can. Will also be doing some Facebook live and eventually recording an episode or two of the podcast down here.

So yeah. We we got at about 3am to get ready for our 7am flight. The hotel shuttle dropped us off at 4. We had to catch a shuttle bus to the Southwest check in. Even with that we were at our gate by 4:45. Lots time to goof off but not many dining options there. Plane ride was uneventful. Magg and I sat by ourselves and pretty much slept the entire trip down to MCO. The plane leaving MCO was a bit late. Had probably the most fun plane ride ever. We had some unused Southwest drink coupons to use and when they ran out the flight attendants started giving me free drinks. Great start to vacation.

Despite leaving late the plane arrived on time. Picked up the rental from Optima (super easy and efficient process) and made our way to the rental. First time using this rental. 2 bed 1 bath perfect sized swimming pool in the back yard. Basically dropped our bags off and went over to Eagle. Spent the evening there until the sun set. Back to the house cleaned up and went to dinner at Chihuaha's. Has new ownership that took over about a month or so ago. They are changing some things up and slowly improving the place. Food was good and reasonably priced. The two of us split a huge ceviche, had entrees and a drink for just under 60 dollars including tip.

Didn't do much after that since we were so tired so we went back home, talked, laughed and conked out.

The next morning we went to Arashi. Brought sandwiches with us for lunch. Pretty much just enjoyed the beauty. For some reason, Arashi seems to just keep getting better and may now be my favorite beach to relax. Uneventful relaxing day that consisted of water time and napping time. I think I may have read a page or two of a book lol.

Left the beach about 3pm to get ready for the Amsterdam Manor meetup. Interviewed a friend for the podcast there and met up with Mazoo2 who was as cool as always. He also made a guest appearance on the show. I hope the audio works out in editing. Can't say I ever did a podcast with 4 people and only two mics. Towards the tail end the woman we rented the home from also showed up so we had a table of 6. Not much of a turnout but we had fun.

Watched the Steelers game after the meetup. Was a 7pm kickoff, so that worked out perfectly. Had apps and drinks at the Passions beach bar. Eventually, Maggie and I were the only two left and I think we closed the place down. Steelers won easily which made for an even better experience... no WaltVB hanging around gloating lol.

Tuesday Morning was back to Eagle for the day. I go back and forth between Eagle and Arashi but usually sprinkle in some Manchebo and Palm. Visits to the latter 2 are becoming less and less frequent. For one they are more of a hassle to get to for us and secondly they just don't seem to have as much to offer. Palm can sometimes get too crowded or the chair rental guys can be annoying. Manchebo is absolutely gorgeous but the water can be overly rough. Arashi and Eagle both offer parking just steps away and have awesome water.

Lunch was at the Eagle Beach food truck, although we also hit Don Pastechi earlier in the day. We had no obligations that night so we took our time getting back home. In fact, after that, we used our pool for probably 3 hours or so. Dinner was at a small local place called Ramada Columbiana. The two of us ate and had soft drinks for 24 dollars. I had fried fish and Maggie had pan fried chicken. We both liked our food and if was definitely plentiful. I wouldn't say I was blown away but the girl at the counter was the daughter everyone wishes they had so I'd go back just to talk to her some more. Not to mention its always nice to support small local businesses.

Afterwards, we went over to Bugaloe for cocktails and entertainment. A band was playing. I didn't catch the name but they were pretty good. Played music from the 90's/early 2000's. Wasn't very crowded but those who were there were definitely frisky. Afterwards, we walked around Palm a bit and then went to find food. Hit up the Taco Truck one of our favorites. As usual, they did not disappoint. She had the chicken burrito and I had my fish tacos. Spent about 15 dollars on them. After that, we came home. I was dead tired so that was that.

Do the homes you rent have beach chairs to use? Or do you bring/buy them? Or just use a blanket?

You're a Pittsburgh fan??? (we're Browns fans; the benefit is that we never expect much, so we're never let down much). I'm down on NFL in general, but that's a topic for another time, another thread. (But I am going to see my son in the OSUMB at the Oct 9 Pats game)

At least we have the love of Aruba in common. Have fun. Can't wait to read more.

Which is why I am accused of gloating. We all watched the Pats-Steelers game at Moomba last year. Of course the Pats won. Oops, I'm gloating again
