Our flight on Air Tran formerly known as Value Jet (OMG) and soon to be known as SWA. From Orlando to Aruba, non stop, left on time and arrived 10 min early! We upgraded for $40 each to sit business class, not for the alcohol or better snack, but because Paul has disc problems that are problematic especially last 4 days and I have been recovering from a piriformis muscle injury causing sciatica. We are both hobbling and are having difficulty sitting...so the better seats in business were a good option. We both slept from shortly after take off til landing. Flight apparently was smooth.
Maneuvering thru the airport was a breeze. Immigration lines were non existent. Luggage came swiftly. Parrot Bay and Kahlua were readily accessible at Duty free store. I don’t know the price of Kahlua, I think it was 2 for $34 and the Parrot Bay was $17. Aruba Customs waved us thru and no mention of us going over the limit. No line at Digicel where I got a SIM for the phone. Hans (Tropic Car rental) was ready for us and we were out of the airport in 16 minutes. Amazing.
Even more amazing, was our unit 2125 at the Renaissance Ocean Suites was ready and it was only 1:55 pm.
Paul laid down with his ice pack, I unpacked, (the food that we brought from home was rock solid frozen) then I hopped into the pool then sat for a while talking with some nice folks from Indiana.
Dinner was early at Hung Paradise at the Seaport Marketplace. We split a Loempia, each had a bowl of tomato soup and a chicken/veggie/rice dish. Tons leftover and will make a nice lunch tomorrow.
Visited with Bully’s wife, son and inlaws and saw the beautiful new patio! Their home is lovely and blood sweat and tears have gone into it!! Bully was working and I was reminded that tomorrow is his last day before their vacation. He will be back at the end of May! Enjoy your well deserved break Bully, Judella and Kevin!
Stopped at Lings for a few provisions. The store is looking great and new ownership is making great strides in keeping it very competitive with Super Foods.
We went back to the Renaissance where Paul called it a night and I went with a friend to the Ritz Casino. The casino was empty and we each lost $50 so called it a night. The Ritz’s lobby was in my opinion designed for a business traveler. It reminds me of a business hotel, not a resort property. I did not see any of the rooms or the beach. I only saw the lobby and the casino.
Here it is almost ll pm and DH has been snoring since 8
Tomorrow, we will lay low and hang at the pool here as he will not be up to all of the walking involved with heading to Renaissance Island.
We awoke early and were moving about before 7 am. Ahh just like home. Unfortunately the coffee pot has no timer, so had to wait a few min for our coffee........it is ridiculous how the little things tend to spoil me. Imagine, being frustrated to having to wait a few minutes for coffee
We hopped (albeit slowly) onto the shuttle boat over to Ren Island. We got comfy on the beach and the flies swarmed in and did not let up. We endured the onslaught for 45 min, and yes we did have OFF repellent. Futile. We packed our stuff up, made our way back to the dock and came back to the Ocean Suites........made camp poolside for the day.
The weather was less windy than normal and the clouds were plentiful. Those that are major sun lovers I am sure were cursing the on and off sun, but those of us that appreciate the clouds especially when there is not much breeze had a pleasant day.
Lunch was tomato soup from Hung Paradise.
Happy Hour, was pleasant and Paul enjoyed his beer and I my pina coladas.
We went to Lings and then to SuperFood. Parking at SuperFood was horrific. Whoever designed that parking lot did not put much thought into it.
We had dinner in, from what I brought from home.
We played at the Marriott for a short while and turned our money into their money. Then to Alhambra…same results. It was like “magic.”
