    Arrived on Thanksgiving

    Good Morning,

A wonderful start yesterday on the travel day with a home departure near Boston at 0500 and arrived at airport at 0530. Checked in at Jet Blue kiosk and stood in line for the international flights. Seemed to be delays with people going both to Aruba and Cancun not having tags on luggage filled out. These are available near the self check in machines, and plenty of stores. Please people fill out before you travel you know you are going away and need a tag. We were guilty ourselves of holding up the lines ourselves with an overweight suitcase. Once the book bag was taken out was below the 50 LB limit.

Flight was excellent and customs was very quick. Once we picked up the luggage we purchased a bottle of Malibu and Captain Morgan Spiced Rum for the ten days. The curbside cab service was fast and once in cab mentioned we were headed to Ocean Suites, sometime during the ride we ended up discussng how we were going to Ocean Club on Sunday. The driver whose name was Candy said she was taking back roads due to the three cruise ships in town and heavy traffic. All was good till I noticed we passed the Rui Palace and I asked her where we were going and she said Ocean Club. We corrected the problem with a 180 degree turn and we now had to fight the downtown traffic and finally arrived. She was pleasant and apologetic like myself for not sayng Renaisance and it was the longest Cab Ride for 18.00 dollars I have ever taken. I know she lost fares and I paid her $40.00 which was very much appreciated. Lesson number two for the day is to make sure the communication is better.

After settling in to the room I was slightly disapointed we did not get a room over looking the pool this time instead of the parking lot. Diane prefered the direct ocean view and the cruise ships which we saw two of them leave later and heard the music from the market place where they had a small group singing from the balcony.

After locling up valuables we headed to Cilo at the market place and Diane had the salad with grilled chicken and I had the Hong Kong Tuna Roll which has the raw tuna and wasabi sauce. Both were very good and of course a cold drink. We walked over the bridge to Paddocks and had a beer out back and it was not too crowed.

After returning to the hotel went to the pool for a quick swim and back to the room and ordered a small meal waiting for the Pats Jets game to come on. Well I fell asleep, missed the second quarter and went to bed after a long day. At least I caught up on the highlights in the AM. Go Pats!

Today hoping to start day shortly with a walk and then go to Renaisance Beach and attempt to get my butt over to the gym for a while. Need to think about tonights dinner plans and something local down here that is casual. Once we move over to the Ocean Club we do have on our list for the week Madam Jenette's, lighthouse Italian restaurant and a few others. I am on vacation and want to relax. Time to head out and thanks for everyone's great tips.

I assume from your username that you are a Pats fan. Were you awake long enough to enjoy the look on Rex Ryan's face after the fumbled kickoff return?

    Update and Departure

It has been a busy two weeks and saw Rex's look on the ESPN highlights, loved the look and don't hear too many predictions of superbowls by him anymore. The last two days have been extremly busy with Friday hanging out at the beach here on Property and having lunch buffet at the Aquarius Grill at the Marina Hotel. It was excellent and a good value with many selections of food including fish, lamb, chicken, sushi, fresh salad bar and deserts and coffee. I forget the price but less than 19.00 per person. We caught an amazing sunset here down at the beach and later had dinner at the Captains Corner, grilled tuna and grouper with choice of sauces from cucumber to hot. Turned in and just relaxed for rest of the night.

On Saturday the market place was thriving with lots of activity. We headed out to the island and found it a little croweded but found a seat with some good shade right next to ery large igunas that kept us company. After a few hours and a nice swim it was time to head back. Took a walk and found the Wine Celler 123 and had a nice drink there located a few hundred yards up from the Renaisance Shops across from the market. The drinks were good, slow service but I need to remind myself we are on island time. On the way back on the stage area in frot of the Pancake House was a group of older teenagers both young woman and men doing a dance routine and high kicking boards dressed out in their Karate outfits. Quite impressive the way they could kick and throw punches especially to the music. We ate lunch yesterday afternoon back at the Aquarius again and this time not as good with different choices. It was filled with locals and the food was more of a local flavor but still very good.

Last evening we went to Tropical located across from the casino entrance and sat outside for an Irish Coffee . It was like busy main street with car after car driving by with families and I know there was not a parking spot available in the lot next to the hotel. Great night and listened to a gentleman on the stage with a saxaphone who was excellent playing great music.

Today is the sad day where we have to depart and head down to the Marriott Ocean Club for seven days. I will need a vacation to recover from our vacation if this keeps up. The front desk was kind enough to allow us to extend our stay till 2:00 and check in at the Ocean Club is at 4:00 PM so it should work out after renting the car from Hertz here in the lobby. We have reservations for dinner on Monday at Madam Jenette's and looking forward to a restaurant we have heard great things about. Time to head down to the pool and enjoy the next six hours and thinking next year of just doing the full week here at the Ocean Suites abou the same time of year. I hope everyone has a good day and will post again soon.

    Respectfully,

    Dave and Diane

    Andrea,

Never did and should have made an effort to do so. Just about to check out and unfortunately not having much luck today with the Hertz Rental desk. Yesterday I asked if they were open on Sunday and told yes, last year we had a tough time dropping off here on a Sunday. Today went to the desk and no one there, went across the street to Marina Hotel, same thing. Front desk called Hertz and they stated they could bring a car down at 1:00 however with the room confirmed ready for check in at Ocean Club we do not want to wait. We are just going to help a local cab driver out and book the car down there either today if open or tomorrow early so we can get to grocery store. Oh well, one little blip on a great vacation.

    Respectfully,

    Dave
