    Wednesday morning

Sitting in the lobby waiting for More 4 Less to pick us up to get the Jeep.
News flash!!! It rained yesterday!!! I was talking with the concierge lady when it started. She ran outside cheering dancing and singing "liquid sunshine". She was so sweet. We talked for several minutes. And laughed at the already wet people in the pool and from the beach running for cover so it wouldn't rain on them.

Someone asked about the small boat to the Pirates. They are overly helpful. Especially for the women and those tipsy with rum ;-)

We had lunch at PBV Tiki Hut. Very nice. The boys Parisailed. We were able to get picked up right here on the beach in front of PBV. They boated us down to the bigger boat. It was just me and the boys. They said it had slowed down because it had rained. That meant they got 5 star treatment and extra air time. He played with the boys dropping them, going back up faster and dunked them each twice in the water. Their smiles and giggles were priceless.

Down time on the beach then pool. We cleaned up and drove up to Boogaloo for dinner. The atmosphere and drinks were nice. They had a band and we hit happy hour. The food however wasn't as good as every place else we've tried. I'd recommend them for drinks and snacks but not dinner.
We then went to Paco Mall. I'd heard about the Sky Lounge and Water Light Show. We were disappointed to learn the Sky Lounge had closed. Their sign and menus drink was still posted. So we walked around. The boys had heard about a club Gisabo (?) that you didn't have to be 18 to get in so they walked there. It was early and there were only a few people there. They want to go back tonight. They were smart and knew we'd be getting them up early today. We had yogurt at the mall then we watched the xwater show. It was really neat to see. All the music was to Elvis. The mall is new since we were here last. We have malls like that at home. I rather stroll around local markets. We plan to do that in a few days.
The Jeep should be here any minute. I'll post pictures when I can. Hope we don't get lost today!!

oh, and adding a picture of my tattoo since it was requested:-). And Mizzo, you are so funny!

Both are places have good grouper: Grouper sandwiches at Bugaloe, Gary's delight (grouper nuggets) or Grilled grouper dinner at Pelican

Can't wait to hear about your adventures today! Loved your Jolly Pirates details, made me feel like we were right back there with the guys having a good time. I can't help but smile hearing about your sons letting loose...what great memories you all are making!!!
Not sure when, but we will be back

Thursday - Survival of the dessert island by jeep

I'm happy to report we are alive! Thanks be to God, my husband with no off roading experience, a sturdy jeep and no help from my sence of direction.
I'm going to apologize in advance for the heat, wind, sun & dust exhaustion.
Yes Car Rental were very accommodating. I can't tell you his name because I can't begin to figure out how to spell it. We had the Jeep and we're off to wake the boys for our fun filled adventure that I'd spent countless hours planning. Heading towards the lighthouse things were going great! I was talking up seeing all the goats the last time we were there so when we pulled up and there was a beverage truck and no goats the boys were sure I had visited a different lighthouse. I swore to them we'd find goats! We walked around took pictures then DS2 stood at the base looking up and said, "they should let you climb up there, I'm sure if I jumped I could make it." And thus a trip with teen boys began.
We drove a little way down towards the beach and told the boys about the tradition of stacking rocks. My plan was to work together to make a family stack. Nope. They were in full competition as to who could stack the most. DS1 insisted I turn on the Mifi. I finally relented only to find out there is some app he has that he pinned the point of his stack so he could find it on satellite. Ok, he's happy.
On to the chapel. Well not so easy. Turning around DH backed right into a sand trap. The boys and I couldn't help but laugh. Less than an hour in and we were stuck. Oh, no, wait! We have 4 wheel drive, maybe we should try that ;-) waala DH saved the day and we were on our way. A young couple hollered out "thanks for showing us where not to go". Happy to oblige!
Now I ask, how old is too old to repeatedly ask, "are we there yet?" They only egged each other on. I plotted my revenge. As we neared the chapel I told them we had a surprise. DD and friends were meeting us and we were going to renew our vows! Lots of Eeww, no way, why now, you guys are sick. Well the "are we there yets" stopped. (We would like to do that someday). The chapel was still as quaint and special as we remembered.
We were off again, destination Gold Mine Ruins. Then we got questioned, where are the goats, why are there so many rocks, if they found gold why aren't there houses over here? Then taada! The ruins! Wow, we get to climb in there!! I don't know how they did it but they were able to find the highest spots. DH & I were doing good to climb inside the main area. DH questioned if the boys fell did the island have capabilities of medivacing someone out or do we just count our losses and leave them there. (Seriously pondering this thought).
Now, "do we have to leave?".
We meandered our way around the ostrich farm, pass the rock formations and donkey sanctuary. They didn't show much interest in stopping there unless they could ride an ostrich, adopt a donkey or climb to the top of the rocks. It was best for all concerned that we continue on our way.
Now here is where all my planning came into play. I had found wonderful detailed instructions on how to get to the natural pool without a guide. I found dirt paths on google earth and knew we could do this. We passed a jeep group then 4 wheelers and other jeep rentals. We must be on the right track. I have no idea where we missed the small corner store and church that were clearly detailed in my directions. Maybe street signs would help? Next thing we knew we were at the park entrance. Ok, DH is happy that they can tell him where to go and give him a map. $11 per adult, a map that looked like a page from a coloring book, he was sure he knew how to get there. The park ranger person said, "turn left and follow the path. Be careful going down the big hill, we got rain yesterday and the rocks might be loose then turn right at the UFO thing at the top." I didn't have a good feeling. Turning left around the corner the road ended. DH, "I got this!" engage 4 wheel drive. Up, up, up bumps, ruts, twists and turns then look! A weird paved road. This is going to be ok. Found the UFO, yup, a UFO. Don't know what it is or what it does but it's up there. And the road thing ended again and we were facing straight down hill. OMG, I hate roller coasters and felt like I was trapped in one and there were several times I thought we were going to fly off the side. I thought back to DH's comment about needing a medivac and how on earth would a tow truck get out here? DS1 came up with a perfect solution to the road conditions. His observations are based on prison work policies back home. Back there prisoners pick up litter. He suggested they have them pick up rocks here. He might be onto something. Hummmm
Then, out of no where, a GOAT! The poor thing was stuck in a bush and pulled loose just as we were passing and DH swerved just in time to miss it without careening us off the side of the hill. The boys were re energized searching the landscape for goats. They spotted several. I sat quietly praying we would find the pool in one piece. Then there, the ocean! We have to be close... Now, 2 jeeps were following us! They seemed to have the false impression that we knew what we were doing. Oh look, a sign! Natural Pool that way, yes, jeeps on the horizon, we are going to make it!
I don't think I've ever been so happy to get out of a vehicle. The other drivers thanked DH for helping them find it that they'd been driving around lost. He admitted he had no earthly idea what he was doing.
I knew and expected that we'd have to descend some steps. As I approached the edged and looked down my first thought was someone needs to clarify what a few steps means. With our gear in hand we headed down. The boys looked back at us and said, "This is Great!" Ok, whole ordeal worth it. There was a large tour group there and a few adventurers like us. The place is truly breath taking. I was pleasantly surprised that the water was warm. Swim shoes are a must. I watched a young woman in pink flip flops take a nasty slip and fell on her backside. The waves crashing in were amazing and powerful. The fish were plentiful and colorful. DS2 says he saw an eel. There were small crabs crawling in around the cracks in the rocks. I found a rock seat and took a rest. I met a guy who is married 10 years to an Aruba native. This was only her 2nd trip to the pool! I met the tour guide of the group. He had this obsession of climbing the rocks and diving in. He stopped to talk for a minute and I gave him a motherly caution to not hit his head. He said not to long ago he brought his mom out for her first time and she yelled at him the whole way. The roads were to bad, he shouldn't be jumping, he should quit and find a safer job. I told him she had a good point! I swam back to the other side and sat on some rocks. Another lady sat beside me. She wasn't in swim wear. She explained she didn't swim but her family was there. Then she told me they had gotten lost. She was throwing a fit then her DH found someone to follow. After awhile that guy stopped, got out, looked around, walked up to them and told them to back up. The path had ended and he didn't know where they were. She convinced her family to give up so they had and just then drove right to it. The other guy showed up 20 minutes later. So my advice here is if you aren't very self assured, adventurous, have a good sence of humor and can't take the beating of your life, go with a tour group! We stayed for quite awhile after the group left and were gathering our things to leave when another group showed up. DH asked their advice on the best way out. We headed that way. In 1/2 the time and on mush less treacherous roads we were out. On the road we'd been looking for! AND, there Was a sign. Don't know how we missed it. Must have been looking at a goat! There is an easier way if you can find it.
Thankful we had survived this part of our journey we headed on with renewed energy. The boys were starving despite the multiple bottles of water and snacks. We headed to Boca Prins. (The road that way was paved) At our last visit they were a small bar shack with an outdoor grill. Well they have made several upgrades and have power and restrooms! Their view is wonderful. Our waitress was very sweet. She was happy we had found the pool. She said several people stop in who are lost and she never knows if they find it. They had several drink options which were welcome after our ordeal. Their menu had items from hot dogs and burgers to plated dishes. The guys all got burgers and I settled for a kids fish nugget meal. I was hot tired and worn out and really only wanted a drink. DS1 was a bit disappointed that they didn't have the fried egg option for his burger. Don't know what I'm going to do with that boy.
Off again we were in search of the caves. One is right next to the restaurant so that was easy. There was 1 other jeep there. Those people were no where in site. Unfortunately the cave was gated off. Well the boys weren't impressed but there were goats! We followed the sign to the next cave. There was a metal gate thing but it wasn't closing the entrance. So we ventured in. I was taking up the rear and taking pictures. What I didn't realize was that my flash was going off and blinding them. They were tripping over rocks and banging into walls and yelling. I couldn't help but laugh which made them worse. Then my saving grace... Bats! And we all went running out. There were two more caves on my list but we never saw a sign or entrance. We did pass by all the wind turbines. That led us out of the park and into town. Our plan is to go to baby beach tomorrow and explore there but the boys insisted we drive to the end so the could say they had been from one end to the other in one day so DH found his way. Of course that road took us past the prison. DS1 tried to get us to stop so he could propose his rock project. I told him to write a letter.
DH found his way back to the main road and headed us back. I'm not sure when but I fell asleep (passed out was more like it). I was shocked when he woke me and said we were back.
Covered in dust and salt I nearly melted down the shower drain. The plan was to go to La C's all you can eat rib night. Well not me. The boys of course who are always hungry walked over. I crashed. They came back with full bellies and a special picture just for you guys. I'll be uploading it. They are all passed out and I'm wide awake after taking that nap. That's how I've been able to share our adventure. I'm tired again just thinking about it!!
pictures to follow, if you've hung in there this long to get to the end! Thanks!
