Aruba trip 11/5-11/10/07

A little lenghty, but some funny parts:

Day 1: alarm starts yelling at 3:00 a.m. but had no problem getting up and getting ready knowing I was gonna be in paradise. Wake up my boyfriend and we are out the door before 4:00 a.m. to get the the Woburn Logan Express. Caught the 4:30 but and at the airport by 5:00. Checked right in (good thing because the line behind us was pretty long). Jetblue is the way to go - direct flights, lots of leg room, your own tv! Flight wasn't full so we had our own row....great start to a vacation
Arrive in Aruba - get our luggage and get on the bus for the hotel. After a few stops we get to the Occidental. Wanting to get out of my jeans badly I'm hoping for an easy check in....should know better .
Room wasn't ready so they send us off to get some lunch and ask us to come back. Okay. We go and eat and go back - still not ready. They tell us to go get a drink and walk around. Okay. End up getting a drink at the bar and check out the casino, then back to the desk - FINALLY it's ready.
Get in the room and quickly change out of my New England clothes and into my Aruba wear! Head straight for the pool.
Had dinner at the Mexican restaurant - was pretty good....better than I thought.

Day 2: Hung out on the beach for a while before heading down for the Jolly Pirate tour. Did one similar last year but we really wanted to try the rope swing! Tried to be funny and hold myself up like I was doing a chin up the whole time - yeah that lasted about 5 seconds and ended up pulling my trap muscle! But I could handle the pain - drink through it right
Dinner was at the Italian restaurant - I heard great things about it and had to try it. Dinner was good and the service was quick! Sitting outside with the hair down, not a good idea though - hahahaha.
After dinner we walked down the beach and ended up at one of our favorite Pier bars - that I can't think of the name right now....Dutch bar.......right past the Rui.....oh well. It's tons of fun. Had one of the locals come over and asked if we were Dutch - I'm sorry what? The freckle face and jet black hair give it away?? hahahaha Sadly we had to tell him that he lost his bet with his buddy - who we met later and knew we were from the Boston area and he then invited us to check out his bar Smokey Joe's one night.

Day 3: Wish it started off better than it did - that pulled trap that I thought I would be okay.....boy was I wrong, couldn't even get out of bed - felt like someone was tearing the muscle Ran into the shower and let the hot water beat down on it......then kept moving my neck to make sure it didn't stiffen up. Got better through the day - good thing it was just a relaxing day! Hung out in the pool and then the beach.
Dinner - Amazonia.....holy food! I would have been all set with the salad bar but I knew I had to try the 16 different types of meat they serve! After a few plates of food it was time to stop them from coming over to our table - boyfriend loved it though. Time to waddle off the food - stopped by Smokey Joe's to meet our new friend for a drink.
Back to the hotel and into the casino - Dave won a couple hundred that night, so I quickly took the chips away so he didn't go through it all. Hung out there for a while and then off to catch some zzzzz's.

Day 4: Signed up for the ATV tour - what a blast that was once the bus picked us up! Had so much fun and loved to see the other side of the island - although you get pretty dirty!
Dinner - Caribbean Restaurant in hotel - pretty good for the slim selection they had to offer and then back to our fun bar on the pier that I still can't remember the name. Then back to the casino for Dave to win some more money - he's a lucky guy!

Day 5: Woke up early for the Kayak tour. Not as excited for this one as I was for the others I must admit. Went along the coast and into a little cove for "story time" about the island. Then off to DePalm Island - going with the wind so it wasn't that hard - until we had to wait in the middle of the ocean for one of the couples that had tipped over - wasn't a fan of that, but we made it to shore safe and sound. Had some lunch, did some snorkeling and then it was time to battle the wind and current to get back to shore. I just told Dave to paddle his heart out and get me back safe and sound without tipping us over Let me tell you, that was one of the hardest things I have ever done. But we made it without falling in or without the help from the guides and their little tow ropes!
Back to the room for a cat nap - took a lot out of me.
Dinner - El Gaucho's....I know there are mixed reviews on this place but I love it there and then across the street to Garufa for some martini's and music.

Day 6: Got up extra early to pack up the suitcase and run to the beach to soak up as much sun as we could before we had to leave for the airport. I tried telling him our flight was later so we could miss it, but he knew better........Got to the airport, checked in (only waited about 5 minutes), right through customs and at the gate.

Another amazing trip and cannot wait for the next one.
Thank you to everyone for all the advice/tips/information. I will be sure to keep checking in for any new information to get ready for the next trip.
