Aruba Trip Report June 28th-July 8th

We were scheduled to fly out at 6am Tuesday. We received a phone call at 11pm from Delta that the plane arrived late and the crew could not fly till 9:45am Tuesday. Our flight from Atlanta to Aruba was departing at 9:58 so that would not work. We ended up getting up and packing our stuff in vehicle and leaving at 1:30am and driving 3 hours to Nashville for a 6:30am flight to Atlanta and caught our 9:58 flight to Aruba with no other problems.

Stopped at Duty Free for some liquor and off to More 4 Less for jeep. Headed to Divi Golf and checked into Birdie 2 by Infinity pool. Unpacked suitcases and the 2 full of frozen food were still frozen. Went to happy hour at the Blue Bar. Then to West Deck for dinner. The waiter told us the hot appetizers were not big and to count 2 per person. We asked him to bring us 8 of what he would choose. His choices were awesome. We all really enjoyed them all and will definetly go back. Dinner for 4 with drinks $140. Stopped at Ling's after dinner and picked up snacks, beer, and mixers. After this long day we were ready to go back to room and call it a night.

Day 2 went to Jad's by Baby Beach so my friend could get some snorkeling gear he was looking at during last years trip. My wife loves the Reef Bar for their frozen drinks and then back to resort for pool time. Dinner was at Que Pasa. It was good.

Day 3 we went to Linda's for late breakfast. It was awesome. We will go back. Went to Seroe Colorado to check out the kite surfers and back to Reef Bar for more cocktails. We stopped at Zeroovers for dinner. Food ok but love the atmosphere. Then back to pool for cocktails.

Went to pick up Mio this morning for wireless.

    More to come.

Day 4 and 5 update. Went to Wacky Wahoo for dinner. Had the grouper and lobster special and it was very good. It was our first time there and will definetly go back.

Went in town and got a Mio wireless dongle. It will support up to 5 devices at once anywhere on the island. It works great. We were looking for the water tower in Saveneta and used google maps with the Mio and followed our dot and made all the right turns. It was faster than the Divi Golf wireless. Sitting in house up by Arashi and it works great.

The rest of our group arrived yesterday. We also moved into our house we rented yesterday. It is awesome with an infinity pool in front overlooking the Caribbean. We brought down 120lbs of food this year. With 11 people it saves a lot of money. Went to superfoods yesterday to buy fruits and vegetables and saw the bacon we paid $3.99lb for was 9.69lb. I brought down 10lbs so that alone save a lot of money.

Last night we cooked at the house and made fried pickles, hamburgers, Caesar salad and chips. The buns from ling's were awesome. We have 3 jeeps rented and are headed to the backside today.

Did you have to pay for checked luggage?
If so, would that not eliminate the savings on all of the food brought in?

thanks for sharing and i look forward to reading of your jeep safari!!

Andrea we have the Delta American Express card so we get 2 free checked bags and our friends flew first class and they got 2 free bags each.

Yesterday we went up to the lighthouse and then drove down to the natural bridge. Then went into Santa Cruz and down through Savaneta to Seroe Colorado for more backside touring on the south end. Since we were by Baby Beach we had to stop at the Reef Bar for some frozen cocktails. We stopped at Ling's on the way back to the house. Nice they are now open on Sunday till 6pm.

For dinner we cooked in and had bruschetta, Caesar salad, and shrimp and pasta.

The house were staying in is very nice. It has 5 bedrooms and each bedroom has its own bathroom. We really have enjoyed the pool being in front of the house and all the people driving by and honking and waving.

Today some of us are going to the Divi Phoenix to see some friends and hang out at the pool and beach there. Tonight for dinner were going back to West Deck.

terrific re: AMEX and the free luggage IMO, if folks plan on eating in for some of their meals, and the luggage fees are a non issue, then I find it perfectly awesome for folks to bring frozen food. my husband and i do it often. we put frozen stuff, wrapped in newspaper, into a soft sided cooler and pack in the checked luggage.
everything arrives rock solid frozen! even folks who have a 10/12 hr day still find theirs rock solid as well.

we'd love to see some house photos.

thanks for sharing your vacation with us!
