This is a very long one, if you are not into long winded reports this is definitely not for you! Day 1.
Up at 3:45 to be to the airport by 5 a.m. We are not tired at all. I think that we were too excited to be tired at this point. We get to the airport where we are “supposed to be meeting” my brother and sister-in-law at Jet Blue at 5 a.m. We don’t see them right off so we get in line and check in. Still no sign of them, so we sit and wait just by the Jet Blue doors so we will see them when they come in. 5:20… 5:45 ….6:00 something must be wrong. We didn’t bring a cell phone because we would not be using it in Aruba (Bad choice) A nice gentleman offers to let us use his phone but we don’t know their cell number cuz it on our cell. Call their house phone just get an answering machine. 6:15 and now we have to go to the gate because the flight is leaving at 7a.m. How could we get this close and have something go wrong now?? Now we go through security and to the gate. There they are saying “where have you been, we were getting worried!” We are just happy everything was fine and we are on our way. Jet Blue out of Boston and a direct flight to Aruba arriving around 11:30 or so. Great flight, time zips by. There way virtually nobody at the customs area, on to our luggage and out the door. I let the ladies go out the door first and there was Bully holding a sign with their names on it. They we very surprised, it was nice, like we were celebs. Off to the Occidental. Check in was very smooth, we were there very early and we knew the rooms would not be ready. We came prepared with bathing suits in the carry on so we were off to the pool. Before dinner I contacted Aruba Fast Phones for them to deliver the phone. I met the young lady in the lobby she was a pleasure to deal with and we were done in 5 minutes. Dinner was across the street at Salt and Pepper, the food was good we shared a bunch of tapas. We stopped into the casino at the Occidental which was recently done over. The four of us sit at the table and play black jack for an hour or so. We are now feeling the time catching up. It’s time for bed, only I lost a little money at the casino. The others either won or broke out even. Nice way to end the day.
Awake at 6am (it’s a body alarm clock thing same time every day) I was on the beach by 7:15 to lay claim to a hut on the beach. Many were taken but still many to choose from. Take a walk along the beach, not far, just to hear the sound of the waves hitting the beach. Read my book till 9 a.m. and meet the rest of the crew for breakfast. Floating in the ocean in the morning till early afternoon and then to the pool for the rest of the day. I was in touch with Kent hoping for the chance to go snorkeling with him. No wireless access in the hotel (something was not working) this made communicating with him a little more difficult. Kent wrote back and said he could take us Monday at 9. I saw that email just before we went to dinner and tried to confirm. Too late he had already booked another couple when he didn’t hear back from us. Then I saw another email saying that his partner Stuart would be able to take us out. We are booked for 9 a.m. the following morning. We did the ocean and then the pool and then it was time to punch out. (my kind of job) Dinner was at Screaming Eagle. We got the lamb chops, bacon wrapped tenderloins, and the Atlantic salmon. Everyone enjoyed their meals. We will keep the Screaming eagle on the list for sure. Off to the casino, this time to the Hyatt. We all get to sit at one table again. Most times the tables are too crowded to sit 4 people at the same time but there doesn’t seem to be crowds at the casinos. We stay for a couple of hours and head off to bed. Everyone makes a little money on this night!
Up early get out and get a hut, then a little breakfast before snorkeling. Stuart picked us up at 9 a.m. He was right there as we walked out the doors. Off to Club Arias for our equipment. Kent was just coming back from his trip with another couple. It was very nice to meet him. Both Kent and Stuart genuinely love snorkeling and obviously get a great deal of joy out of sharing their passion with others. Stuart could not have been a better host. He got us all set with our equipment and we were off to Mangel Halto for some snorkeling. It’s just my brother and I, the girls decided to relax on the beach. Snorkeling with scooters was awesome we had a great time and it was great to have a guided tour. All during our snorkel trip Stuart was taking pictures and they came out great. After snorkeling it was back to work at the occidental. I hope that nobody noticed we were late for work! We swam in the ocean and back at the pool in the afternoon. It’s Monday and that means the Pats are on Monday Night football. We planned on having some drinks and appetizers at Busters for the game. Before that we need to make a trip to the Holiday Inn sports book. New England and Over, hopefully we would have dinner, drinks, a patriots win and collect some money too! I am really getting greedy here, beautiful weather, great day of snorkeling, fun in paradise, great atmosphere for the game, great company, a Pats win AND MAKE SOME MONEY! I knew that I was pushing my luck but what the heck. Many New England fans at Busters dressed in their Patriots shirts. Patriots beat Miami 38 – 24 it was a great game, good food. Pats Win and we collect on our bets! We went to the casino at the occidental and played Black Jack for a couple of hours, made a small donation and off to bed.
We are in the mode now, beach, pool and repeat. Dinner tonight was a Giani’s for Italian food. We were seated outside which is under cover but it was a little warm. They had portable air conditioners/fans that made it bearable. The food was good, but not good enough to make the “Must return list” Back to the Hyatt casino for a few hours and we came way with a couple of hundred dollars… Yippie! Off to bed.
