Just got back from another wonderful trip to Aruba Monday night and figured I would give a recap of what went down. Since I like doing these things in story form I'll be adding as time permits and will most certainly be doing a podcast episode focusing on accommodations, edibles and entertainment. But for now here is the narrative. Hope you likey.
It all started Friday evening when we made our way to Baltimore as we had booked a parksleepfly at the Best Western. Won’t be staying there again lol. Seemed as if there were 100 parking spaces to park 105 cars. Luckily we spotted someone leaving (probably to get food) and we ended up getting a great spot right in front. We always get take out on our way to the hotel so their loss was our gain.
Had dinner in the room as we finished up reading Dan Putkowski’s “An Island Away” to eachother. This book would end up playing a fairly large part in our trip as we were constantly looking to see if we could spot Martin/Luz situations (for those that read the book). After finishing we went to bed as we had to wake up at 5am for our 8:30 flight.
We did early bird check in with Southwest but still ended up with a late group A assignment, not that it would matter since we missed our group being called and ended up boarding with the Bs. No big deal. I’m easy going and we were on our way to Aruba.
Arrived 4.5 hours later, picked up our luggage and we were on our way to Royal to pick up our Jeep. Got a bright red 2 door this time. I made certain remind him that on previous trips we had temperamental air-conditioners and glitchy radios. Once again I got him to circle the entire Jeep as being damaged which is a necessity since we like to take the goat paths which can scratch up a paint job pretty easily. Everything was great (or so it appeared) so off we went to Ling’s.
Picked up breakfast foods, lunch and snacks and also enough booze to get us through the week. Next stop would be the Palm Beach rental house to put everything away and then off to Arashi to have a Balashi as we watched the sun set. Finally got rid of that stopping at Wendy’s tradition YAYYY!!!
Sunset was of course gorgeous after which we high-tailed it back to the rental house to shower, change and have dinner at Tango Argentine Grill as its Maggie’s favorite place for steak.
The rental we get isn’t anything fancy but we love the location as it allows us to walk into Palm and be complete lushes
After dinner we ended up at Bugaloe. It was Karaoke night. We arrived just as the late night happy hour was starting which can be a good, albeit dangerous thing. We took a seat right up front and I started to feel the island vibe immediately and gave as much support to everyone brave enough to get up and sing. Apparently the MC mistook my enthusiasm for meaning I wanted to sing and together with the crowd coerced me into getting up there for a mystery song that ended up being “Hello” by Lionel Ritchie. If any dogs were present I’m sure they would have been barking but in my ears Lionel and I’s voices blended better than he ever did with those commodores. To my knowledge no video evidence exists to prove the contrary so that’s the story I’m sticking to.
The crowd didn’t walk out on me and they seemed to be somewhat entertained by my dance routine during the way too long instrumental in the middle. In the end I got more applause than any non-dutch karaoker that night, so I guess I was okay with being suckered. For the rest of the night we sang along with Dutch songs that neither of us knew the subject of… and we didn’t care as we were both in our happy place with the only person either of us wanted to be there with..
i closed my eyes and actually heard you singing........OMG
am i maybe reading into some problem with your car rental?
thanks so much for sharing.
i look forward to reading more.
If the OMG was OMG someone help that wounded turducken then you may have nailed it. As far as the car goes I actually forgot to mention that I sprained my wrist after we got back from Lings. While I made certain the radio and AC were in tip top shape I didn't check to make sure the back seats folded down. Since they didn't in order to have room for both our luggage and the groceries, the luggage had to go in the back seat area. When I went to retrieve them I relied too much on strength and not enough on technique and my wrist twisted in an awkward way. Never a good idea trying to simultaneously lift and twist a pieced of checked luggage from the back seat of a jeep with your left hand when you are right handed. Very mild sprain/strain and nothing a few cocktails each day wouldn't take care of.

Funny you had to stop and think about the spots from the book, I did too
At first I couldn't get into the book but once I got into it the characters really came alive to me... enough that I finally went to Charlies but more on that later. Gonna get started on the second one once things get settled around here. Oh by the way, talked to Scott and Leslie
Love that you did karaoke. Maybe you could reenact for your podcast?!
99.9% chance that won't be happening lol

Scott and Leslie agreed. We still need to work out a time but we all agreed that we could make it happen. Also the owner of one of the food trucks we really liked, but more on that later. Didn't record anything while we were down there although that's in the cards for this summer since the home we rent now has internet... not sure if that's good or bad.
