    Lisa,
That makes sense! Thanks for the name. It would have bugged me until I Googled it!

Dannyo and Divi Fan, thanks to both of you as well.

    Next-to-last day report:
So, another phenomenal day. Let's see, I'm retired, with my spouse of 36 years and we're in Aruba. Kind of a no-brainer, eh? Today we regrettably had to check out of the OC a day earlier than usual because we had a 6, instead of 7 day package. We had a freebie in a Marriott though, and so booked a free night at the Renaissance Marina. While we wouldn't choose it as a destination over the OC, it has proven to be a great new experience, with the ferry in the lobby and the boat ride to the private island a treat.

Speaking of which, we got to discover an unexpected gem in Savaneta today. My DW still had the opportunity to get on my case, even though I was vindicated with Mirpas being closed and my NOT missing it while driving (see earlier post). I left my snorkel mask on the wall at Manel Halto and Kent retrieved it for me and left it at Club Arias B&B for me to pick up this AM. So, we drove out there before check-in at the Renaissance.

We met Kent and Stuart there yesterday and were surprised at the ambiance of the garden and pool area. While retrieving the gear, we had the pleasure of meeting the proprietress of the B&B. We asked if we could see a room. What a nice surprise! The rooms are very well appointed. During our conversation, we discovered that her husband built the place from the remains of an old Volkswagen Car Dealership. The next time we're in, we would love to stay a few extra days there. If you're in need of a place to extend or want somewhere away from the typical tourist areas, give it serious consideration.

After the Renaissance check-in, we visited the aforementioned Renaissance Island. Lunch was nothing special, but the ferry ride out, the lagoon and the quiet, adults-only beach was very pleasant.

After our return and spruce-up before dinner, we traveled back to the OC to pick up a Balashi hat that Joseph, our favorite Marriott employee, obtained for us for our son back home. Then, we were off to dinner at Papiamento. What a treat. We saved the best, as it turned out, for last.

We'll do a restaurant report when we get home, but DW and I agree that Papiamento tops the list for this trip and maybe all-time Aruba, except for last year's meal at Carte Blanche. We got there early, without a reservation and it's a good thing we did, because it was packed by the time we left. The garden setting is beautiful. The service was outstanding. The food was superb. We stayed for 2 hours, not because of slow service, but just because it was so comfortable. They even had a young (looked like a teenager) singer who entertained the diners and was an unexpected pleasure.

Lastly, we stopped in the Crystal Casino and discovered that the croupier (thanks again Lisa) let's you play with $.50 chips and a minimum $2.00 inside bet. We may get to play longer than 30 minutes next year!

So, all in all, a day of unexpected and pleasant surprises. Every trip here is better than the last.

    See you tomorrow.

...It is always helpful then to have a lot of 'FAVORITE' numbers. My amount of numbers has grown over the years, as minimums have grown

    Safe travels home

Just love the wheel also. Only use numbers that are birthdays, anniv. etc.. Explain 17,5, 2 32...Just love to learn more. I have won a few times in Aruba but just enough to make it even Ha ha!!!!Just love your reports !!!Thanks for sharing. We love the quietness of eagle beach & Costa Linda. The beach and Palapas are never an issue. Renovations are really nice. Looking forward to eating in the new restaurants that are open. I enjoy this forum so much. Thanks all,

Posting this from 30,000 + feet on Airtran. Our last half day was spent (finally) getting some gifts for the folks back home at the flea market. The only one who didn't get one is the dog. I hope she understands. Knowing DW, she'll drive to Petsmart tomorrow out of guilt.

We did our obligatory 3 hours before the flight check-in, which always seems too early and this time was no exception. The only solace was the hotdog and Balashi at the "Happy Island" stand. The proprietor is usually the one to see us off.

Forgot to mention our rental was a Yaris from Payless / Optima. The car worked well and the check-in and out was easy. It was our first time with them. We tried Hans a month or so in advance and appeared to be a few months too late. We would use Payless again.

Andrea, based on what we saw and our conversation with the owner's wife, Club Arias looks like a winner. Certainly, they get rave reviews from their guests on Expedia and Trip Advisor. We too think we'll wind up there on a future trip.

Thanks to all of you for your reviews, tips, etc. All of the advice we've gleaned from the forum over the last 5 years has helped us enjoy these trips even more.

See you in a while with restaurant reviews. Happy travels.

    safe travels.

i want to hear more on your 3 hrs at the airport.
    how were the lines?

and i too think club arias is a hidden gem!!
walking in thru the rock cave like entrance i was thinking .......WTH?!?!
once inside the courtyard/garden area, i was amazed and thought "how pretty".
then, when "mr and mrs club arias " (i forgot their names) showed us the inside of the apartments we were in awe! gorgeous, well appointed, clean and comfortable.
we are considering not using an interval trade for one of our weeks in aruba in the the fall.

    thanks!!

Fantastic reports...I'm not a gambler but you have peaked my interest! It sounds like you guys have converted to the Marriott points program...may have to private message you about that. I am for sure going to schedule the snorkeling trip with Kent and Stuart next time!..Thanks again for all your time doing these. Even though its been a few weeks since we left....still feels like we were there!
