    Bradrobster's 2017 Aruba Trip !!

Ahh…we are BACK!....sorry for all the drama but I gotta tell ya folks, everyone has their own battles they are facing so in no way do I want to say that I needed this vacation any more than anyone else….but I really did!

That said…lets begin. I am often “analyzed” by the family for my over achievement in “planning”. I prefer to call it “over excited preparation for arrival in a place where I can forget the rest of the crap “.

Yes, I was packed ( in totality…2 weeks ago( including new toothbrush/toothpaste/deodorant)…so I could put my bathroom bag in the suitcase ( don’t judge..lol). DW ( later to be referred to as AW ( Angry wife)….well…lets just say at 11pm last night..there was still stuff in piles on the bed to be packed… ( my lip is zipped)
Ok…enough with my OCD, let me start the trip report!!!

    Saturday June 17th – Day 1
Started the day …really early… 3am…really didn’t need to start that early but my daughter who is flying to Aruba with us..but not really with us…she flew Delta out of Charlotte through Atlanta and we flew American to Charlotte and then direct to Aruba. She called us at 3am…( we were not going to get up till around 4am..) to let us know she was up and moving for her 6am flt from Charlotte to Atlanta on Delta. That would have been ok but Deb and I didn’t get in the bed until midnight so we were at less than 3 hrs sleep. Yeah….thanks for letting us know…lol

All worked out well, one minor issue. American has a thing..not sure if its all airports..but we had to use the kiosk ( had already checked in remotely..but didn’t get a chance to pay/check bags). We used the kiosk to go through the same checkin stuff we had already done, selected that we had 2 bags, paid and then were instructed to go to the “bag drop line”. We have done this before but to be honest, it appeared by the amount of time that people were spending at the counter for “bag drop” ..that maybe they had not already checked in and/or paid for their checked bags.

So back to my “AW” comment. We had completed the Kiosk step and were waiting in the “bag” check line…watching the chaos ..and were 2 people away..and the lady at the bag drop motioned for someone over in the normal “non -checked” in group to come over. I immediately said ( moderately loud..lol) and motioned with my hands like “what”???

Well…the American Desk rep..made eye to eye contact with me…gave me the evil “STINKY EYE”….if you have ever gotten that..you know what I am talking about!!
My DW…turned into a AW and smacked me really hard on the arm while saying “ you are going to get us kicked out of line!”

It turned out fine, we got bags dropped, pre-check was easy and we were at the gate more than an hour before boarding.
Flights were no issue, we landed in Aruba on time. We had done the online ED entry and chose the “self serve” line for entry. Easy, put your passport in face down with pic page first…they snap a pic..and your on to baggage claim.

While Deb and Mackenzie waited on her bag, I went over to Budget and got the car. Great car..comparable to all the other options/rates…about 35 per day and we were on our way.

Stopped at Superfoods to get mixers, breakfast, snacks, other misc. stuff. Love that place….it was crowded on a Saturday afternoon but we got a bunch of stuff and some wine ( already got booze at Duty free in baggage claim) for about$100 bucks.

Now on to the Ocean Club. I will just say that being an owner for 16 years pays off…as it should. We have a great suite with great views.

It was after happy hour 5:10 when we put on bathing suits and cover ups to go down and find food and booze. Ended up at Sands Eatery at Ocean club. We got Calamari, and Shrimp as appetizers, Deb and Kenzie split the grilled Mahi while I got the She Crab soup. Several Mai Tai’s and a couple beers later and boom….$100 bucks. Well..It’s vacation day #1……..you gotta do what you gotta do…food quality was good to above average.

Immediately went to ocean and got in and watched the sunset…..moved to newer jacuzzi tubs ..then to pool before going in.

Kenzie is like me, she is an explorer! We had to get dressed and go back down and check out all the shops, restaurants, etc.. We checked out all in the Ocean club and then went and checked out the improved gym that the Marriott shares with the Ocean club. Very nice…2 levels now…beautiful views and great equipment.

We then went into the Marriott hotel. Sushi has been replaced with a Starbucks. Sushi has now been incorporated into the lobby bar and a new Gelato place is back behind the main checkin desk. Decent improvements.

Since I pay for my Ocean club timeshare maint fees….I have to say that the property continues to impress and is very well kept. It does not hurt that the Marriott keeps the other properties in line with this and also looking well kept.

Tomorrow is Fathers day….going to call my Dad…I am were I am in many ways because of him….I am a better father because of him….good stuff….good thoughts….nice to start the vacation off with this!

Thanks to all of you..who keep me motivated to live, love and share …all that is Aruba!

The AW thing. It is a badge of honor. Earned by putting up with nonsensical bs from our husbands.

This was awesome reading your experience as we are leaving tonight for our first time in Aruba staying at the Ocean Club. Our adult children will be joining us after we are there for four days. Thanks for all the places and prices listed. I realize they maybe higher this year but this really gave me a feel of what's in store for us!

Sounds like a great first day - hoping the AW has turned from Angry wife to Aruba Wife I know my attitude adjusts very quickly once I step foot on the island. Hope you had a wonderful Father's Day!
