Moomba Beach, Eagle Beach - just about anywhere I can wiggle my toes in the sand and enjoy an ice cold Bright
I have read each and every edition to your trip report and loved every word. You have a gift that allows you to share your love and affection for Aruba with others. Thank you for sharing your vacation with us; it's always nice to know that other people love Aruba as much as I do. Enjoy the last moments of your trip and travel safe.
Day 9…THE FINAL FULL DAY… ok…had to lead off with something dramatic….after all, isn’t leaving this wonderful place after several days of pure relaxing bliss dramatic? YES
Ok.. I just smacked myself with the last drink stir straw to help gain composure. Whew…I feel a little better.
We had hoped to be up earlier today, didn’t really happen. Got up around 8:30ish, went down without fanfare and got our usual 302 Palupa…let me pause here:
Dear Marriott Ocean Club Palupa # 302…you will be dearly missed. Although there were no masses clambering for you daily, we…did. There you sat on the sheet, day after day…lonely, un-colored from the “taken” sharpie. We saw you for what you were…an oasis for us. You made our week complete and for that…we thank you.
Ok..now..back to business. Breakfast…yes…Salt and Pepper again.. no real revelation here..it’s just good…consistent..and…good. I won’t bore you but yes, we both got the same thing (roughly $35..w/2 mimosas and extra tip for Sharen). Something wonderful did happen though!, Sharen ( yes she spells it this way) was back!!! Our lovely, sweet, sincere waitress that we have seen over the last couple years was missing this week for us. She is only working a couple days a week there now and we were thrilled to see her. We got kisses when we left her and as we left, we thanked everyone in the place and they said “thank you” to us. This is just one of the small things that keeps this island great…show your appreciation and it will be given back many times over.
Left S&P and checked out Palm Beach Mall, Deb wanted to check out Rage Silver store. They didn’t open until 2 so we came back to Ocean Club, got in the car and headed to lighthouse. We wanted to check it out before we left. Beautiful as always, it’s fantastic to see the other side’s rough coast. We checked it out then turned back and stopped at Arashi beach. There was already a good crowd there. We were happy to see that someone is there renting chairs now, we didn’t get one..we just wanted to walk the beach a bit. It’s just a tad rougher than the Palm Beach area. Next year, we are going to bring a cooler and park here for a few hours, we did that 2 years ago with the kids.
Lunch…ok..wanted to maximize beach time on the last day so we ate again at the Pavilion at the Ocean club pool. We did switch it up a bit. I got the beer battered fish and chips…I have to say, this was some of the best beer battered fish I have ever had. Waitress said they were using the same Grouper they used in their other fish dishes. Deb got the fish taco’s. She loved them, they were grouper also. She wished she had told them grilled instead of fried…but needless to say……whoosh!..they were gone..lol. $35 for lunch…fast, good, very convenient to just eat and walk back out to the palupa.
Spent lots of time in the water today, was beautiful, normal winds, 90ish, off and on cloud patterns moving though…perfect for palupa napping…which we did.
We actually stayed on the beach until sunset today, one of our favorite things to do on our last day. Great sunset….as always…then headed in to grab a shower. Made some drinks to also make the packing a bit more enjoyable! And tried to decide where to eat.
We made the trek back down to Palm Beach mall. This was actually ( other than this morning ) the first time I had been back there to it. For the life of me, it makes no sense that they didn’t tie the front part to the back part. You go through the front part..hit the parking garage..only to stare out at the mall building behind it. This has got to be the stupidest design ever…but then again…I don’t come to Aruba to shop..lol!
Went into Rage…got daughter some ear rings…nothing else really appealed to us. Several new restaurants there. White, Queen’s ..maybe others? Taste of Belgium is there now too..I think they used to be in the front part. None of them were overly busy. We walked back over to the front part of the mall that faces the high rise hotel. Whether or not they are “together” or “associated” …we think of them that way.
We were getting hungry so we went to an old favorite right there. Scala ! .. we love this place, never had a bad meal here. Service is good, food and wine are good. Started with the blackend tuna appetizer $12..very good..make sure you get this one rare to med. Rare..comes on plate with a salad that Deb enjoyed.
For dinner, I got the Catch of the day ( Snapper this time) in a creole sauce ..with veggies and mashed potatoes. $26…very good..but I think this trip I have single handidly reduced the Caribbean fish population..seriously.
Deb got the Seafood Marinara. Plate licked…nuff said. Mussels, shrimp, fish, squid…fantastic $26?maybe…it’s late now
Couple of glasses of wine and total was around $90 with tip.
We gotta be up in 5 hours. We have the 9:15am American Flight to Miami so getting up around 5:45ish. Already cleared the bill here at the Ocean club and mostly packed. Fantastic trip! Loved sharing every moment with you guys. Again…it’s my pleasure to give back for such wonderful information we have received.
I will post another update tomorrow for the travel back. I talked to Deb tonight and think we will finalize a last post in the next couple days with a summary and rating and pricing of all the places we tried. Hope this will be useful info. We will try to add a few tips that we have learned as well.
Blessings and happy travels to all.. May life make you lean towards the ocean like the Divi tree’s here…
Thanks all…we will be back next year…plans are already in the works!
Safe travels home. THANK YOU for all your trip reports. I know I live through these reports until I get back to Aruba. Yours were incredible! I especially love how you and Deb would sit back with a drink at the end of the day and talk. That is my favorite thing about Aruba. It gives you that time to relax and reconnect. We always have such a hard time going back to "real life". Again, thank you for sharing and I'm looking forward to your "wrap-up" report.
