Took Airtran out of Raleigh through Atlanta on Friday the 13th...and the big moon day...daughter was a bit apprehensive about that but it all worked out great. Flights were ontime and the overall Airtran experience was great. I did notice that in Atlanta that they made us all go back up to the desk and have our passports checked again so we could have our boarding passes marked "DOCS OK"....don't remember this in the past.
Rented from Budget..no problem...4 door ...we were packed like piggies with all our stuff. We headed to Lings since I had heard that the Superfood might be extra busy that time of day on a friday. We dropped $141 on just stuff....like it was sand blowing in the Aruba wind....poof...gone!!
Got to the Ocean Club...we love it here...owned since 2001. Got a great room over looking pool and ocean..higher up....we were happy !
Ocean club stays very well maintained, people are great....very comforting !
We headed down to catch the last 30 min of happy hour. It was funny watching my daughter and her boyfriend..both almost 19...order their drinks. They felt like big shots since they can't do this in the states. As I told them...enjoy in moderation...the cost may help control that as well..lol
Walked down past the Holiday Inn so we could cut over to the restaurant area. It seemed to be a pretty dead night. We picked one of our favorites for an early meal so we could get back to watch Hockey and I could take my traditional night swim with a cocktail
We ate at Casa Tua....it was even better this time that even previous times. Deb and daughter got the Mushroom Gnocchi.. which was out of this world...it was like the best sauted mushrooms ever with fresh soft Gnocchi...awesome. I got the meat pizza....also awesome. Daughters boyfriend got the pasta bolognese sauce....also awesome...a few Balashi Chills and a couple glasses of wine...
Came back to the room...Deb and I went down to swim..and the kids went to Champions to watch the game!
It was an early night since we were up at 3:45 am to catch the 6:15 out of Raleigh.
Great times...great to be back....it's like being back home when we come back now...totally comforting !
we flew airtran out of orlando to aruba on may 9.
we too had to bring our passports and boarding passes to the gate agent to have them checked.
we asked why? the answer was, it is SWAs policy for international flights and they have been requiring this now for a few months or more.
Got up early (7:15ish..well, that's early for me! ) I strolled down to start our week of Palupa hunting! Luckily, the Ocean Club was rather dead this morning. I realized why when I saw all the sad souls later that morning in the lobby with their bags packed and heading out....sad...very sad. We too will suffer the same fate come Friday morning but for now...I will pretend that day is a LONG way away.
Got two great ones on row 2. I headed down to the Setar office and picked up two sims for my two cheap GSM Quad band phones I got off of Amazon....piece of cake, $26 a piece for 40 min on each phone. Then I headed down to the Superfood to check out how this monster was! I quickly did a side walk over to Daily Fish that a few folks had mentioned on the forum. Wow...what a fantastic addition to the cooking options! Beautiful shrimp, scallops, salmon, a couple other types of fish. They also had pre-made skewers of shrimp and veggies ( 4 shrimp per)..and less than $5 per skewer. They had another one with a shrimp and 2/3 kinds of fish. This stuff is way! expensive. The peeled and deveined shrimp came out to about $26 per pound... I opted for 6 of the skewers to add to some filets that my family is going to cook for a fathers day dinner!
One thing I noticed, I don't think much of this stuff is fresh....I think it is brought in Fresh/Frozen.. In their freezer they had bags of shrimp that were identical to what they had out fresh....I am not sure...just my opinion. Since this was my first visit...I just observed...bought what looked good....and will ask questions after I consume my sample :-) .
Went over to SuperFood.....or as I call it now SuperExpensive! .. Awesome place, selection as good or better than I have ever seen here. I scoped out a few filets over in the meat section. Wow...they were small ...but I basically got Filet's for 4 of us for barely $20...while small..they will go well with the shrimp skewers!
Came back, spent the day on the beach....great...windy...but that is Aruba!... Lunch was at the Sands Eatary at the Ocean Club Pool...formerly the Pavilion. They have totally redone this place ..had grouper sandwich and others had the shrimp tacos...pricey...but tasty. This place is also now open for dinner with a reasonable menu and live music Mon-Fri....very nice.
Dinner was at MJ's !! Always a favorite spot for us. Went early, it was cooler than usual and a good breeze. Got the bang bang shrimp for appetizer (fair)...Deb got the twin filets with lobster meat and hollandaise . Kid's got the schnitzel and I got the schnitzel stuffed with ham and cheese...very good. Plenty of leftovers. I realize that at MJ's you are best to focus on the steaks ..as they have always been the best option for us. I love all the other things but their beef dishes to me are their best.
Came back to a lazy ..and full ....evening of cocktails while at the pool and hot tubs......nice way to wind down the day.
I have some tips that I think I will start another thread on in a different section...
More to come....about to start Fathers Day ( Day 3) ...Happy Fathers Day to all the dads out there and God Bless all the Dad's looking down on us !
