How exciting that you will meet Cheryl again!

Have a blast whatever you do!
She turned me onto a place called the Local Store next to 2 fools and a bull that I think will play a large role in future Aruba adventures

Hopefully you can check out the Carubbian Festival in San Nicholas on Thursday night. It's a Mini-Carnival in the town that features a lot of music, carnival costumes and of course local food( I think they do barbecue ribs there as well). Anyhow, hope that all is well with you. Enjoy your trip and be sure to kick back and relax.
No can do. NFL season starts Thursday night... gotta watch my Steelers go into the gates of hell and shock the football watching world.

I love the respect for the Patriots, I'm old enough to remember fearing the Steelers

Foxboro on opening night is as tough as it gets. I'd feel confident if Cheech and Chong (or the doobie brothers if you prefer) weren't suspended but anyway...

    Monday Sept 7

Woke up super early to watch the sunrise. Decided that Alto Vista would be the best place to watch it. Spectacular view! For some reason decided to do some impromptu offroading at 7am. Was a lot of fun... until we were ready for it to be over. At that point you just want to be back on the main roads but there is nothing you can do about that so you just ride it out.

Stopped back at the house to pick up some beach snacks and headed on over to Manchebo to enjoy the day. For my money that’s the most picturesque beach on the island. Every beer commercial ever made should be filmed there. Lunch today was at Matthew’s which we had never visited before. I had the grouper sandwich which was pretty good and absolutely huge. Maggs had the chicken quesadilla which she though was just average. That could be because Mexican food is my specialty and she gets spoiled by it at home. I thought it was pretty good myself.

Left the beach around 4 to go back and shower before the meet and greet. More people than I expected there. Saw WaltVB immediately, well he saw me first. Met his crew, MAZOO2 and DW, Mike and Aruba Amy and a woman from another bulletin board who’s name I can’t quite remember even though I spoke with her probably the longest. Names are not a strength of mine… gotta work on that. Had a great time! Brought my camera along and took some pictures. Not as many I would have liked but I kind of had to choose between conversing and being the creepy camera guy. Conversation won the day.

Spent the evening in Palm. Stumbled into a new restaurant called Chihuahua’s that is over by Cafe Rembrandt. The kitchen is run by the guys who do the taco truck which I love. They only opened up 2 days prior and are still a work in progress but definitely has potential. Aruba is terrible at Mexican food. If the service piece is right and the quality is the same as the Taco Truck they’ll have a hit on their hands.

Finished the night at Moomba’s where we ran into Walt and co. again. Had a lot of fun hanging out with them. We didn’t stay late since we had more or less been awake since 5:30 am but crammed a lot of fun into our waking hours.

Pretty far behind on these. My hat is off to those that write ongoing reports. I never seem to get more than a couple of minutes of time.

    Tuesday September 8th

Eagle Beach day. One of the things I like about not being attached to a resort is just picking a spot and making it my own. We chose to camp out on Eagle just across from Chalet Suisse, about a stones throw away from the Eagle Beach food truck. I don’t have much of a preference of one beach over the other but do have to admit Eagle is probably the most relaxing of any of the beaches we visit.

Lunch was at the food truck which serves up local style food. In fact, I doubt they serve more than a couple of tourists each day. The bulk of their customers seemed to be taxi drivers and watersports vendors. Got a decent amount of grilled chicken, rice, french fries, some sort of veggie medley and a plantain for 7 bucks. Weren’t super hungry since we had breakfast back at the villa so we just split one and it was just enough. If you go make sure you criollo sauce. It takes the flavor up a couple of notches.

Left the beach at about 5 or so (long day) and swung past home to pick up some cold Balashis to take up to Arashi for the sunset. Was a good one. After that we went back to get showered and change for dinner at Quinta Del Carmen but first had to stop in at the local store to say hello to a group of our new friends who had invited us out. They looked like they were having a blast which made us regret having made reservations at Quinta.

Had a fantastic meal at Quinta which no longer made us regret those reservations. The service was excellent with only one minor problem. The food was great. We tried the chicken noodle soup, watermelon salad and goat cheese fritter… loved the fritter. For mains I had the Sucade Lappen, I was very happy with this choice but wish there were a bit more mashed potatoes with it as the sauce got kind of overpowering towards the end. and Maggie had the stuffed chicken breast, she loved it. Didn’t have enough room for the nutella cheesecake I had heard so much about… maybe next time.
We had planned on stopping back through the local store to meet up with bulletin board people after dinner but it ran kind of long so we decided to just head back home. Nice and relaxing day that ended with a great meal. I don’t think we are really fine dining people but both agreed we’ll be back to Quinta.
