Now that we are home, here are our comments, highlights, and a few lowlights:
Best meal – tie, Madame Janette’s Rack of Lamb and Pincho’s Grouper
Best sunset restaurant – Pinchos (barely edging Barefoot)
Best value – Scott’s Brats at Playa Linda
Best overall quality – Chalet Suisse
Best beef – LG Smith’s Baseball Sirloin
Best beach – Renaissance Private Island
Biggest Surprise – Surf Club, which despite its “population” can handle a crowd and, of course, buying at the Surf Club, which was totally unplanned until we stayed there
Best activity – snorkeling with Aruba Bob (Kent), a great experience and a lot of fun
Disappointments – fish at Passions, condition of downtown due to construction, wood walkway along Oranjestad Harbor (in disrepair and this engineer thinks it is dangerous and refused to walk on it), service at Hard Rock
Weather – 12 out of 14 days were “10’s”. The others a 9 and a 7. On the day of the “7”, drizzle for 30 minutes and cloudy until 11:30 AM (life is rough!)
Number of rides with Bully – 11
Number of timeshares purchased – 3 (1 Surf Club and 2 Renaissance)
Number of timeshares sold – 2 Renaissance (eliminating our "low season" ownerships there)
Forum Members met – luv sun (Leslie & Scott, Scott’s Brats), terry joz (Terry & Jim), aruba bob (aka Kent)
A special tip of the cap to my friends at Renaissance, still my favorite resort (Tino, Georges, Lilliana, Brian, Melushka, Jorge, Vanie, Ina, Valerie, Leidy, Marcia, Rigo, Linda, and many other smiling, familiar faces. I may now own at the Surf Club as well, but is impossible to match the intimacy of the Renaissance and Island. The Surf Club staff, however, was very accommodating and friendly. I will never get to know them as well as my Renaissance friends, but the hospitality at the Surf is very good too.
First time pleasant surprises: Scala, Barefoot, Blossom’s, Scott’s Brats, Surf Club, walking from Surf around high-rise area, walking Eagle Beach, snorkeling with Aruba Bob, seeing the turtle nesting sites, lineal park near Nikki Beach, Lecca Lecca Gelato downtown near Royal Plaza Mall (really really good and inexpensive)
Comment - Digicel service is much better than Setar; love owning an Aruba phone with my own number and I have owed from both.
New morning routine: Gym daily (both at Surf and Renaissance), hot breakfast in our room, lunch (sandwiches) in the room.
Most pleasant memory – being able to spend two beautiful weeks with cindyo and my two daughters (both juniors in college). I love my family, and I appreciate these special trips when we can enjoy each other without distraction!
Love the plates, so cool.. Loved reading your reports along the way. Thank u both for taking the time.. I'm so happy you had such a great trip with your family, best memories are made with your loved ones
