CindyO and Rob O's Family Trip

Friday - After a great welcome from Bully at the airport and our many friends at Renaissance (Valerie, Linda, Frans, Liliana) we had a quiet, relaxing evening and unwound at Plaza Café…
Saturday – Cindy and I walked to Hong King behind Renaissance to pick up $95 in groceries. Last trip, we spent $275 at Ling, so we obviously weren’t looking to buy that much and Hong King had all we needed. Went to Renaissance Island at 10:30 and met Jorge on the boat and Georges the boat driver. Ina was at her usual spot, as was Melushka. Beach was really quiet, at noontime counted maybe 20 people in water, 30 on beach and maybe 20 in restaurant. By the way…we’re thrilled with our new, highly portable SwimWays “Papasan” spring floats. Much easier than hauling the old 36 inch tubes.
Did some fishing behind the restaurant, but had no luck. After some lunch at the restaurant, the girls went back, Cindy and I stayed at island until 3:30. Then, back to the pool and getting ready for the evening.
Picked up by Bully and went to Wacky Wahoo. I had the “Catch of Day”, grilled Grouper…the best fish I have had in 14 visits to Aruba. Cindy was pleased with her shrimp. Girls aren’t fish eaters, but loved the fettuchini. Wacky Wahoo….we liked it and will keep it on our “places to go” list.
After dinner, we called Bully; he was there within ten minutes. He took us to the Hacienda Mall where we watched the water show to Christmas music. Then, walked around the mall and then through the high-rises down to the Westin. Cab ride back to Renaissance ended our day.

Sunday

Sunday – The laziest morning ever for us! Normally, I’m up at 6:00 and take a walk. Well, today we ”slept in” until 8:00.
There were a couple of 10 minute downpours between 7:00 and 8:00; then, a beautiful morning. We had a simple breakfast in the room and then went to the private island around 10:30. After just chillin in a lounge chair for awhile, we went into the water and floated around for over an hour. Following that, a light lunch in the island restaurant.
Around 2:00 the sky darkened so we took the boat back to the Renaissance Marina Tower to use their “adults only” pool. Ah, the advantage of our girls reaching 16 and 17. We stayed and relaxed either in or beside the pool until 5:00. The weather was unsettled, with three or four ten-minute downpours….and I mean downpour. We just laughed it off….so what if it rains when you’re in a pool? TV had Jets game on….but I guess the Pats game was hardly a classic despite the win. Who cares….I’m in Aruba!
We took the golf cart back from the Marina Tower to our Ocean Suites and got ready for dinner. Around 6:45 our family met with Randi from the site with her husband and their youngest son (16). We had never met before, only on the site, but it turned out to be a great match. They’re a lovely family. Randi and Cindy hit it off immediately and there was no lack of conversation for the entire evening. I hope that they enjoyed our company as much as we enjoyed theirs! We dined at Casa Tua downtown…they enjoyed pizzas while the “O’s” had pasta dishes.
Around 10:00 we went back to the Ocean Suites to show Randi and family our hotel…..we got soaked by yet another ten minute downpour. A total of one hour of rain today, making it the second-rainiest day in the 120 or so days we have spent in Aruba. No big deal….one hour of rain, the rest…..totally clear and sunny.
Thank you, God, for another healthy day in Aruba.

Rob, we loved meeting your family. You are right, it was a perfect match. It seemed like we had known each other forever. But I guess in a way, we have! You have a lovely family and a wonderful evening.

See you on Friday!
