    Costa Linda 4-11 - 4-18

Well we just returned from another trip to this beautiful place. This year my wife and I brought along my brother and his girlfriend. My brother has been many times before when he and I were kids when we first started visiting the island with our dad. His girlfriend had been once but she was on a cruise and was only able to see the downtown area.

First day as most of you know from a prior post we had a terrible travel day with U.S Air. We will never travel with them again. No need to harp on the bad parts.
After delays etc we ended up landing just after 4PM on Saturday. Luckily the customs line was non existent. We breezed through that and got the rental car and were on our way to Costa Linda in under 20 min from landing.
We arrived just in time for HH and took full advantage of that. We ate dinner that night at Salt and Pepper it has become a little tradition that we eat there on the first night. Following we dinner we hit Sopranos and listened to the Piano player for a while. Due to the long day of travel we we hit the pillow fairly early.

Sunday we woke up and my brother and I hit Super Foods for groceries for the week. We then stopped down at the dock to meet up with Capt Ed on the J-String to confirm our charter for Monday morning. ( I apologize to member Kilikina73 for not seeing your PM about the charter). My brother and I had some bonding time and decided to expolre the island a little. I was never able to find the marina that is behind the airport so we set out to find that and were successful. nice little yacht club back there with cool boats that have a lot of character. We went by Arubaville and agreed that we needed to try that for dinner later in the week. We spent the rest of Sunday at CL enjoying the beach and the happy hours. We ate dinner in Sunday night taking full advantage of the condo with a full kitchen.

Monday my brother and I woke up early and got down to the boat for 7. We headed out with Capt Eddie on the J-String. I fish with Ed every year when I visit and I must say he runs a top notch charter. For anyone visiting who wants to go fishing I highly recommend him, he has become a personal friend over the years. The waters were rough per usual for Aruba. We ended up with two wahoo and a couple black fin tuna. The fishing has been slow down there recently. After returning from fishing we grabbed the girls and headed off towards the lighthouse for some snorkeling. Returned back to the CL for the mid afternoon HH and ended the day just grabbing a pizza from Pizza Bobs.

Tuesday we woke up around 9 and decided to heads towards San Nicholas. We got to baby beach around 10 and went snorkeling. I was very surprised how much they have done to the baby beach area. Big Mommas grill is now built up into a very nice beach side restaurant, I can remember when all she had was a little trailer. I herd plenty of talks about some new hotels going up in the area as well. On the way back we hit up our favorite bar on the island Charlies Bar. We just love this place. Cornelius the bartender is a great guy with tons of history knowledge about the area. We had the shrimp with the "honeymoon sauce" which is AWESOME! We had a few Balashi and my brother and I smoked a cigar. For dinner Tuesday night we had the Wahoo on the grill we caught the day before, great dinner and a good way to save money!

Wednesday was a full beach day at the CL. This was by far the hottest day of the week. Very little cloud cover and a light wind. The day was spent back n forth from the beach to the water trying to stay cool. We all got a lot of sun that day. We had dinner at Arubaville. It was.... just ok. We did not have a bad meal but it certainly did not wow me. I believe this is the old Marina Pirata correct me if I am wrong. We were all sun washed from the day so we had an early night.

Thursday we woke up had breakfast I made pancakes and started our day . We hung out at the CL for much of the morning My brother and I decided to check out a few snorkel spots that I have never tried before. Thursday was the first day that the awful feeling started to loom that vacation was nearing its end. After snorkeling we returned to CL for the afternoon happy hour. We had several recommendations to try Zeerover through out the week from several people. So that was the dinner choice for Thursday night. I can assure it did not disappoint. Its a very laid back environment (duh its an island). You order from a walk up window, you have choices of catch of the day, shrimp, fries, cornd bread, and a few other sides. the catch of the day that day was Mahi. They charge you by the kilo. We got 4 mahi filets and a very generous handful of shrimp. All the food is friend so if that's not your thing beware. the food was excellent the setting was awesome, I highly re4ccpoment checking out Zeerover! After dinner we stopped at the down town area had a few drinks at the Paddock and then went over to the casino above the Renaissance. I lost 100$ in less then 10 minutes and that was good enough for me. My brother did hit 600$ on a double 00 at the roulette table which was very nice. Since we had drinking money for the rest of the night we headed down to the highrise area and had a few drinks at Sopranos again and then called it a night.

Friday was a moving day. Because CL is a Friday to Friday rental and we did not arrive until Saturday due to my wife being a school teacher we added and extra day to our stay. We packed up our things and went to the beach to wait for our new condo to be available. Around 1 we were able to move into our next condo for the night. Depression was starting to set in. We spent the day at the beach and they had happy hour. If you want to check out a new place stop by the Costa Linda and check out there restaurant 12 degrees. For dinner we wanted to do something simple we went to the highrise area and went to the touchdown sports bar. Well that was the worst meal experience I have ever had. I can assure you I will EAT ANYTHING, and I very rarely complain about meals. In fact im the one who never complains about service meal quality etc at restaurants. The food we got, a burger two quesidillas and I had chicken strips. The food was inedible. The chicken strips were so over done that I could not swallow the first bite after chewing of rover a minute. The burger was dripping grease and down right gross. the quesidillas were somewhat ok and all four of us shared those. We asked for the bill quickly. Stupidly I paid the bill and when the waitress brought my credit card receipt back she said I noticed you all didn't eat much was the food not good. And I quietly told her it was down right awful. She said I should have said something earlier which is my fault. We should have known better we were the only ones in the place that were eating everyone else were just having drinks watching the hockey games. I will never go back there and advise you not to as well. After that experience we went home and called it an early night as were were flying out Saturday.

Saturday I woke up early and took my last walk and swim. I will tell you leaving Aruba never gets easier. We packed up and headed to the airport at 11:00 for our 2:40 flight. Returned the rental car and proceeded into the airport for what was an hour and a half of hell. Wow they really put you through the ringer leaving the island. It seems I must have shown my passport 10 times before boarding the plane. We got to the gate in plenty of time. flight from Aruba to Charlotte was uneventful. Had an hour layover in Charlotte then a quick flight to Boston followed by a two hour car ride back to CT made for a very long day.

All in all we had a great trip. We did less activities this time then we ever have but it felt good to do more relaxing. I cant say enough good things about the Costa Linda. This place has truly become a home away from home for my wife and I. We have made close friends with many of the staff there that we stay in contact through out the year. There is truly something special about Aruba that is hard to explain to anyone that has never been. We have a lot of people say to us "your going back there again" "why don't you try some place new" etc etc.... Aruba is the only place for me the weather the people the atmosphere everything about it makes me feel at peace. We will surely be back next April if not sooner. My wife is turning 30 this year maybe a 30th b day trip is a possibility we will see. Im sure I forgot details and other things that we did and saw that I will add as I think of.
    Until next time Aruba Cheers!

I will add pictures to this thread periodically as I get time. Here are a few to get you started

Thanks for sharing. It's strange that most us when having a bad dinning experience, we don't speak up unti after the fact. I'm in that category myself. Although sometimes when you do speak up, nothing happens. I once ordered a paella which had peas in the rice that were crunchy meaning undercook. The waiter comes over to ask how is everything and i said these peas are crunchy and undercook. He just looked at me and walked away.

Thanks for the great report, we will be staying at Costa Linda in 3 more days! From looking at the web cams, the beach doesn't look to busy, is that really the case?

The beach wasn't to busy at all especially for it being school vacation week. This week marks the start of the off season so I suspect when you go next week it will be even less busy. The beach in front of the Costa Linda is really awesome right now, they have gained SO much beach back compared to when I was there in 2013. Enjoy your stay at CL make sure you tell Andreas Mike from CT says hi!
