Day 3- Pool ti.me followed by dinner at the Islander Grill at LaCabana. I had prime rib special and Marj had tenderloin with shrimp. Good food prepared well and at a decent price. We did not do the beach because the high winds. Had a lot of fun sitting on our patio listening to bad karaoke (Is there any other kind?)

Day 4 - Pool yet again followed by a romantic dinner at Passions on the Beach. We both had the special which was grilled grouper with shrimp preceded by pumpkin soup and Aruban fish soup which we shared. A guy a couple of tables down proposed to his lady ... who screamed no and ran out of the restaurant........just kidding folks she said yes.

what is going on with the wind?
when we were in aruba may 9 - 23, it was pretty windy.
there were a few days when the waves were so rough at the casa del mar and abc beach that it was pretty treacherous.

Let's just say it got a little too busy lounging by the pool to make daily reports. It’s a tough job but someone had to do it . We only went to the beach once because of the fierce winds. No great loss since the Tropicana has two excellent pools to enjoy. We went downtown one morning where Marj the Bargainer hit the unsuspecting sellers at the various markets. We had lunch that day at Iguana Joes which had good food but was a tad crowded, an outside table is a great vantage point for watching Oranjestad go by. We actually made a minor profit at the Crystal Casino. The next evening, after eating in, we went to the high rise area where Marj the Bargainer went on attack once again while I watched the evening people go by. We stopped in Hard Rock for a snack and to listen to the band. Radisson's casino was not good to us. On our last night we went back to the high rise area and had dinner at Casa Tua.
    Some Observations:

    • There are ugly Americans. Witnessed one gentleman hock up a big one and let it fly right in front of La Cabana, much to the amusement/disgust of the hotel personnel at the entrance. Numerous times I heard my fellow Americans loudly throwing f-bombs.
    • Aruba’s slogan may be “One Happy Island”, however, someone was not happy on June 13th. As we were headed for the airport to leave our cab driver took us on a long convoluted route to the airport because protesters were burning a car in front of Parliament. Of course that little item will not make it into the English language newspapers.
    • If we hadn’t stopped halfway to eat at Sbarro’s we probably would have made the departure lounge in under 45 minutes on a Friday.
    • Why on earth is there a second security check after US Customs? Makes no sense to me, especially since they are conducted by the same security company using the same protocol.
    • We had three good lunches and a good pizza at Pizza Bob’s. The pizza is not for you if you are a NYC or Chicago purist.

    We had an excellent time!

Sounds like a very restful trip.... the way I like them. Regarding 'ugly Americans'.... they do exist and it's unfortunate. Hopefully those of us that behave as we should as guests in another country can help make up for the few that just plain don't care and don't know any better!
