Early report
As Nancy sleeps in, I'll fill you in on the first day. Usair flight from Philly was great. I reserved aisle and window seats and no one sat in the middle (Nancy would have moved to middle if someone did). I think it was the only empty seat on the plane. I put the landing on youtube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BUgdyWQ-9JU). Not really too exciting, but that's a good thing I guess. They had trouble with the jetway, so we ended up sitting on the plane for an extra 20 minutes or so. Customs was quick and easy. Amigo rental car went smoothly. It is a little disturbing that they give us a steering wheel lock device, but I did put it on when we left the car. Check-in at the Renaissance was slow as the power went out right when I got to the front of the line. They gave us some free drink coupons and we checked in after sitting at the bar for a short time. We unpacked and headed out to the private island - beautiful as always. Made it back just in time for the last 2 for 1 happy hour drink and then to Petite Cafe for dinner sitting outside overlooking the street. Everything was great. And then a quick stop at the casino where I'm up a whole $10!!!!!!. But I'm not sure how much Nancy lost. I post more later.

Renn Marina bar (Blue) happy hour is 4:30 to 6:00 and it does seem to be 2 for 1 for everything. Nancy had one of their signature martinis and I had Balashi.

Day 2 summary. Ahh, Nancy sleeping in again...too much partying (for us old folks anyway). We do like the Renaissance. It's our 4th stay. We stay on the Marina side, where there are no kids allowed. It's not that we don't like kids, we just don't like anyone else'e kids, lol. I went and worked out while Nancy slept in and the fitness center is great. After a grocery run, ate a nice lunch at Salt-n-Peppers. Tasty tapas and cold balashi. Then went on a little drive, stopped at lighthouse, had a nice chat with timeshare sales guy from Divi. He said they were going to build a new resort at Baby Beach in the next few years. We narrowly escaped unscathed with only a brochure! Drove up through Noord and the back way into the big city. The traffic through the main street in front of the hotel is just a constant stop and go every 5 feet. Takes a while to get through town that way. Sat by the pool over the street and enjoyed happy hour again. 2 for 1 does make it a great deal...drinking martinis in the pool. We walked over to Taj Mahal for dinner and it was excellent. We think it is one of the best meals on the island. I had chicken vindaloo and Nancy had a lamb saagwaalah(sp?). A papaad appetizer (baked or fried rolled up lentil with pepper) and spicy dip (cilantro I think) is a great deal for $1.50. Then we stopped in at the Crystal Casino and I left up another $10 for a huge total of $20 up for two days(big gambler)!!! Nancy was unhappy that she could not play her "favorite" slot machine as some lady was camped out playing two machines at once. You'd think you could lose money fast enough with just one. I played $0.50 (told you we were big time!) roullete and the balashis came as fast as I could drink them. Nancy just woke up so we're off again...more to follow.

divi has been talking about a resort in san nick for yrs now. we first heard of their "plan" at the same time they were building their golf course back in 2002 or 3.
is this economy i would not hold my breath waiting. look how long it took them to renovate and rehab and rebuild the phoenix. so we wait it out and see. QUOTE=sunnysmiles;173104]Wow, a resort at Baby Beach?! Sounds like another great day in Aruba![/QUOTE]

Glad to know your vacation is going well and that you are up 20 whole dollars !!!!
It is always great to be at least even when it comes to gambling... Never heard anything about a new resort at Baby Beach, but as both Andrea and ArubaLisa have said, with this economy I would think that might be on a back burner for awhile......maybe that is why they are renovating the Divi now.....
