Hi, sorry it has taken me so long to post.
I did attempt it last week. I typed out a very
long report only to find I had been disconnected from the
site and nothing was saved.
I will break this up into sections rather than days.
Hotel – Westin
We were very happy with this facility. The degree of happiness
is relative to what we paid. I feel we got good value.
The facility is showing its age. The room was clean, everything
worked well. There was only one robe in the closet, a minor x.
Toiletries are adequate.
We were offered and promptly received a small fridge.
We had room 808, ocean view and close to the beach with an
unobstructed view of the sunset. We enjoy having a glass of wine
on the balcony so this was critical.
The staff were all nice and when called upon extremely helpful.
Our package included the breakfast buffet. This worked perfectly
for us, we are late risers and enjoy a good breakfast that sees us
through to dinner. The buffet is very nice, great omelette bar, fresh
fruit, the all important stewed prunes and fresh baked goods. It has all
the regular choices as well.
We shared a small lunch one day at the outdoor restaurant, food was good.
The beach was "Aruba" fine. We never booked a palapa, and only had an issue on one occasion.
I still am ignorant to the etiquette for obtaining these. I was
using the shade from one until the owner showed up (it was empty and
no belongings were present) ,the beach guys came over and told me to
move as the owner didn’t want me using it.
I told him very nicely were he could shove it and to have the “owner”
come tell me himself. Apparently if you don’t have a palapa you must
make sure you are fully exposed to the sun!
Drinks at the pool bar were excellent, we enjoyed happy hour 3-5 daily.
We took advantage of a very overcast second day to use the anniversary
present our sons had arranged for at the Spa. We enjoyed a couples
Massage and facial, I had a mani and pedi as well. The services rendered
were competent, my massage was excellent (deep tissue). The staff are
very friendly. The facility itself is sub par, and does not stand up
against the cost of the treatments. I would expect this should have a major
upgrade in any renovation.
We liked the location and size of this hotel. The elevators were only a nuisance on one occasion. We did not take advantage of the other restaurants or the Casino. We would be happy to stay at the Westin Aruba again.
We had big plans for activities but got caught up relaxing.
We did manage to get on the trikes. Michaelangelo was an
excellent guide. I had a great time driving stick, and my wife
loved her perch in back. I highly recommend this for a change of pace
and a chance to just drive around and see a lot of the island.
We didn't rent a car so it was something we wouldn't have seen otherwise.
You can find the trikes under the windmill near Palm Beach. Carte Blanche
is right next door, although i understand they are relocating.
