Girls trip 7/6-7/13 - Marriott Surf Club - Updated with day 2

Just returned from our girls trip to celebrate my daughter's high school graduation. Cast of characters includes myself and 2 of my friends (age range mid 40's). There were 5 girls in tow - age 17, 18, 19, 19, 19. We rented two 2-br units and the Marriott Surf Club and requested that our rooms be as close as possible (request graented - we were in Spyglass tower, floor 9 garden view, and there was one unit in-between us. So not directly next door, but certainly close enough. We put the kids in one unit and the adults stayed together. We kept all the food in our unit so that forced them to have to stop by and visit is whenever they got hungry! LOL. Also, we always had keys to the kids rooms in case we needed to get in.

Departed from Logan on time on 7/6 around 8am. Flew JetBlue and the flight was great. I think we landed around 1pm. We grabbed our luggage and made a quick stop at Duty Free shop and quickly found Gregory from More4Less Rentals. Since there were 8 of us we rented a mini-van but there was no way that all of our luggage would fit. I had mentioned that to Gregory on the phone and he told me to not worry about it - they would help us to the hotel with our luggage. We quickly filled the van with luggage and headed over to his office to fill out paperwork. Easy process - we were at the Surf Club by 2:30pm.

Bellman took our luggage as our rooms weren't ready yet. We headed out to grab lunch and ended up at Captain's Galley. Should have gone over to Moomba or Nos Clubhuis but overall it wasn't bad. Food came quicker than I had expected so we were happy. The kids changed into their suits and headed to the pool while us mom's headed back to the lobby to wait for the room to be ready. I think our rooms were ready around 4:15 so no complaints with that. Bellman was notified and we were told to head up to the rooms.

We changed into our suits then headed to the beach to meet up with the kids. Early evening is my favorite time of day to be at the beach so I was happy! We swam a bit, then headed to the pool, then back to the room. Us moms headed over to SuperFoods to stock up on groceries then unpacked, showered and headed over to Moomba for a few drinks. The teens loved it - us mom's weren't impressed. We walked over to the casino at Holiday Inn. That has to be the smallest casino on the planet! Didn't bother me though since I won $80 on 3 card poker.

Grabbed the kids when the bar closed and headed back to the room. Day 1 a success!

Wow... that's gotta be fun 'herding' 5 teenage girls and keeping them outta trouble. Sounds like a great start to a great trip.

Day 2 started with coffee and breakfast in the room. So glad we did food shopping the prior evening. Got a somewhat late start, left hotel around 11am. Drove up to the California Lighthouse to do a little exploring then stopped at Arashi beach. What a beautiful beach! We found space under one of the large huts and spent about 3 hours here, relaxing and swimming in the clear, calm water. Beautiful. The beach was pretty secluded which is exactly what we were looking for.

Headed back to the hotel, made some drinks, inflated the floats we brought from home then hit the lazy river for a couple of hours (the moms). This was probably our favorite spot. So relaxing and fun and neat to chat with other people as we just float on by. Lots of laughs trying to get in/out of the floats! The kids spent the afternoon at the beach since apparently the lazy river isn’t quite their speed.

Went back to the room for showers in shifts since there were 8 of us. We had dinner reservations at El Goucho’s for 7:30. I can tell you it did not disappoint! Great meal, great service. Most got steaks, we have one vegetarian with us I can’t remember what she got but she seemed happy. The guitar players came by which was a nice touch. My only complaint here was the parking. We drove around the block probably 3 times before we found a spot. There was a lot that I found but it was completely full.

After dinner the girlies wanted to head back to Moomba’s (you will quickly see this trend develop as we progress through the days). We allowed them to go and the moms walked over to the Marriott Casino. Much longer walk than I expected but come to find out there was a much shorter path (that was mostly inside and probably much safer than walking out by the pools). Lesson learned. I tried my luck at 3 card poker again and came out another $80 richer! Unfortunately the line to cash in the chips was VERY long so we headed out knowing we would be back another day. On the way out we heard some fun happening at Champion’s bar so we stopped in there for a drink. There were a bunch of teens and their parents singing karaoke. Fun crowd, we stayed only for one drink then headed to Moomba to check in on the girls. Wish they were open longer we probably would have stayed.

Got to Moomba’s and rallied the troops (against their wishes ) just as they were closing. Oh to be 19 again!! We had an early morning planned for the next day as we were booked for the ABC Jeep Safari tour. I was way overdue for some beauty sleep at this point but pretty pumped that I was ahead by $160! Aruba will be sorry I ever learned how to play 3-card poker!

Here are some pics from this day!

Not that we didn't like it - just didn't like that the girls wanted to go there every night LOL. I should have anticipted that being that it was so close and the age of the girls in our group. I'm still in denial that my kids are adults now.
