    Hello from Paradise!!!

Good Morning everyone from my favorite place on earth! Arrived on Thanksgiving afternoon everything went so smooth....plane from BDL to Charlotte actually landed 1/2 hr. early which was wonderful, we actually had time to grab a sandwich at a nice deli for the next flight. Usually if we are lucky we have time to grab a premade sandwich which isn't exactly tasty. Bully picked us up and greeted me with a nice warm hug, what a way to start our vacation. Bully sure knows his way around traffic and was nice enough to show us all the new construction, trolly tracks etc. and explain how the progess is going, when it needs to be done etc.

Arrived at Divi AL, got my favorite room (they always take care of us) LOVE IT! My favorite bartender Juan was working, I ordered a strawberry daiquri and my first sip was WOW!!!!! Juan gave me a nice surprise which I didn't see my DH explained he poured rum down the straw!!! A couple of these drinks and I was on my way to la..la..land.....Ate at the buffet a wonderful turkey dinner with all the fixings, after a long day of being up since 3 am it sure did make our bellies happy....after that called it a early night. My first day I was feeling a bit under the weather, not sure if it is from the day before or not, I remembered last year same thing happened to me, oh well, took it easy went to bed early.

Saturday morning felt great! Went for a very long walk towards Tam and beyond, however, woke up so early it was still pitch black outside. Guess I forgot what time the sun comes up (LOL)....took some nice pictures of the sunrise which I love to do. Not many early morning walkers this year not sure why. Hung out by the beach all afternoon, while at the Beach bar last night met up with some of our friends we met last year, Eddie, Barbara and Scott so ended up talking with them for hours. Ate at the buffet again.

Sunday morning went for my morning walk, once again had to wait for sun to start coming up (LOL).....got back to room and my key would not work. Had to wait for Reception desk to open for new key (did not want to wake DH)....the nice lady at the front desk had beautiful earrings on which I admired, she told me they were not real and she purchased them from her native island and also told me she has the same pair in a different color and to come see her this afternoon or Monday she would let me have them. Cannot say enough about the people of Aruba. Got my new key made, went to room to get my $$$ for my next walk to Dunkin for ice coffee. I love the new Dunkin and all the nice shops next to Casino.

The weather has been picture PERFECT!!!! Just going to get some more sun today and perhaps visit casino for the first time tonight. Have an early morning appt. tomorrow for our 2nd annual Trikes Tour.

Tuesday evening going to Windows on Aruba for the first time. Still have to make it downtown and to Pelican piers for a bucket of Brights.

We really don't do too many exciting things so my trip reports will not be too exciting compared to most. Just loving the island and the people and the weather and the drinks, you get the drift.....just wanted to check in.

I am supposed to meet up with Charles one of these days which will be nice. Charles wrote me a short story back in Spring and is nice enough to give me a copy of his original script signed. Once again an example of someone special who lives on Aruba.

Brenda, enjoyed your trip report. Keep them coming. I really missed being there over Thanksgiving this year. Don't forget to try one of those pink berries from the small round cactus. Let us know if you like Windows.

Thanks Peg, really miss you and your hubby as well. Hopefully next Thanksgiving we can meet again. Thanks for reminding me about the berries, I totally forgot, will have to try them.

Forgot to mention, I could not believe arriving in Customs. Totally empty!!!! The agents were waiting for us, this has never happened before it was WONDERFUL. The customs agent was also the biggest sweetheart, all trips should go so smooth.

Thanks for posting from my favorite place in the world! Had one of those drinks from Juan - killer! Glad to hear all is well at the Divi. Still have my ticker posted, but not sure we're going to make it this next Spring, so I love "living" through your trip reports - keep them coming! Tell Charles I said hi if you meet up with him. A lovely man - we had a long talk a few years back and I will never forget his thoughtful words. Enjoy your time and hope the weather stays as good as it has been! WOW - no line at customs. I'm happy if there are just a few people in front of us!

Same thing happened to me a couple of years ago.... agree with Andrea.... create a doc and do a cut and paste to the forum! I do look forward to reading it when it's recreated!

    Remainder of my Trip :-)

Hello my forum friends….well already missing Aruba badly but hope to return next November. Here is the continuation of my wonderful trip.
SUNDAY – after my morning walk and bragging about the “perfect” weather the skies opened up and it poured the sun would break thru here and there but another downpour would happen later in the day. I am now wondering if I have jinxed myself it is ok as I know the beautiful flowers on the island get very thirsty like the rest of us and it is only fair they have a drink now and again During my walk this morning I noticed a very strange thing, not sure what happened overnight but the beach especially towards the Tam has really changed. At the Tam there were 3 horseshoe type spots where the beach really got washed away (was perfect day before) the only way I can describe it is as if you had a snow storm and the driveway was shoveled clear and the snow was a foot deep on the sides of the driveway, I took pictures to show my husband. As the week went on this area was not as noticeable but still not normal, it was however not near the rooms more in front of the restaurant (buffet). Waves were very big and strong but towards end of the week the ocean was once again calm and beautiful.
Sunday afternoon my husband and I had the pleasure of meeting up with Charles for an hour or so. Charles is a very nice gentleman and quite good looking I might add Charles was nice enough to give me a copy of his original script he wrote after one of my posts titled “Tear Clear Messages” as well as a beautifully typed copy which I plan on framing. My husband and I really enjoyed all the stories Charles shared with us about ARUBA and an inside view of some of the stories he wrote in his book “Aruba I am Your Island”. Charles asked me which were my favorite stories and he also shared his favorites and gave us an inside glimpse of some of the people he met during his journey of writing this book. I must say it was very, very interesting and we both enjoyed meeting him. I believe Charles really enjoyed my husband who really had Charles entertained with a couple of his funny stories as well.
MONDAY – Woke up to a beautiful double rainbow, what a sight! took a taxi to our 2nd annual Trikes Tour (they no longer pick you up at hotel), we brought along Barbara and Eddie with us this year. However, I felt bad for them as they had to take turns one riding in the back with me and the other with the Trike Operator in a buggy. I called the night before to ask if they had room for another couple, they said yes and they could ride with the Tour guide as they did not want to drive, however, they did not explain they would be in a dune buggy and not on a Trike. They did not seem to mind but I believe they should have been given a better price seeing as they were not both able to be on the back of a Trike. My husband and I really loved this tour last year, this year it did not seem as great. I am not sure why it could be last year it was so new, this year they had new tour guides (Nolan from last year is no longer working there). It seemed to me that the tour this year was very “rushed”, there were 3 trikes in the tour total plus tour guides in dune buggy. We went to all the normal stops but it seems to me that we were not given enough time at each stop. I’m sure at least one of the couples this was their first trip to Aruba so they should have been given more time to take pictures or sight see at these stops. I do not think I will do this tour next year will find something new.
Monday afternoon we went to the High Rise section to walk around and make our annual stop at Pelican’s Pier for a bucket of brights. While we enjoyed our Brights it was not the same as last year either, the bucket was a very small plastic bucket that looked more like a small empty ice cream container, all the Brights would not fit in and hardly had enough ice to last. The Pelican’s Pier bar is under construction basically closed with a blue tarp covering it. They have a very small makeshift bar in the corner. We still enjoyed our Brights and people watching but also missed the happy hour bar atmosphere and Brights Bucket.
TUESDAY – Beautiful weather is back! Lounged out in the sun all day, hubby read his books in his favorite place front lobby. I have a picture of him reading laying with 8 small pillows, so relaxing and well deserved as he works so hard all year, he actually ended up reading I believe 6 books total. Tuesday evening we went to dinner at Windows on Aruba, very, very nice. I asked for a seat to watch the sunset, no problem and it was beautiful! Our dinners were: app. I had the tomato and goat cheese salad which was wonderful and the presentation was out of this world! Hubby had cauliflower soup which he enjoyed. Entrees I had beef tenderloin which was very good although it was a bit more red inside than I would have liked, hubby had scallop and shrimp which he also enjoyed. Too full for desert so skipped that, we sat outside for quite some time with no shuttle coming to pick us up, my husband is not too patient when it comes to waiting, no one was inside to ask to call for us so we finally started walking and found one we flagged down in another part of the area.
WEDNESDAY – another beautiful sunny day. I decided to lay by the pool which I never do, the Divi AL was pretty empty this year at this time so never a problem getting a lounger by pool or beach. I really enjoyed sitting by the pool there were so many CUTE babies to watch with their parents. I could not get over this one baby who I swear was not even 1 year old yet, the Dad would hold her with no floaties on and she would kick her cute little legs on her own, future Olympian I predict. In the afternoon we decided to visit the Bunker bar for sunset which believe it or not wehave never done. We met a very nice and fun couple, Deb and Ned first timers to ARUBA. We had so much fun with them they missed their dinner reservation at Papparazzi We ended up sharing pizza from the pizza bar and some munchies like onion rings and cheese sticks. I ended up losing my favorite pair of sunglasses during this fun night, went back to Tam next day and checked Divi but no luck While watching the sunset at the Bunker Bar we saw a young lady who we noticed the day before as well walking 2 dogs a small one and a Great Dane. This was a pretty cool thing you do not see a Great Dane every day at home not to mention in Aruba!
THURSDAY – took a bus downtown (boy this was quite the bus ride, hold on)! Female drive she could be a Nascar driver the way she was flying in and out of the traffic and side streets to avoid construction but we made in it one piece We walked around the Marina admiring all the huge yachts and dreaming of owning one. Second stop was Paddock for a couple more Brights! Downtown was very, very busy with a few Cruise Ships in town and very, very hot as well. I forgot we usually go down a little before sunset as there is not much of a breeze downtown. Love all the cool items hanging from the ceiling in the Paddock. Spent around an hour in the Crystal Casino but did not win broke even which is fine.
FRIDAY – very sad day last day to enjoy which we did! Spent day laying in the sun again, I have a great tan this year to be proud of…hopefully it lasts more than a week after returning to home. Did some shopping at the shops at Tam I always find really nice costume jewelry in one of them, bought my hubby a cool shirt with a beach background and a bunch of different type beer bottles on it , the bottles are all wearing sunglasses, he loves his present J Later I went over to the shops at Alhambra, mostly the same ole type of shops with the exception of the RM Glass shop. This is a must see shop even if you do not purchase anything. This little shop is so quaint it is like the nicest little boutique the way it is decorated And it even smells nice with candles burning. The young girl who works here was so nice and helpful as well. This shop sells jewelry which is made of sea glass and it is all reasonably priced. I purchased two necklaces (one as a gift and of course one for me) they have magnetic closures which is also nice, I paid $20 for each which I don’t think is bad considering these are different items you don’t see every where.
Also spent an hour or two at the Alhambra casino, found a new favorite slot machine, penny slot I ended up putting in a $20 and walked away with $209.75 Yippee!!!!
Went to Pizza Bob’s our last night ritual, was happy to see the same entertainment (kind of) same Father but last year he had his oldest daughter and young son, this year he was with his youngest daughter who is just starting out. My husband once again asked the Father if he could sing some Roy Orbinson and once again was told he does not know him. We promised to bring a homemade CD of Roy’s music and songs to him next year he says he will look forward to it. Enjoyed our pizza, entertainment and last few Brights and of course by this point I am really getting sad and dreading leaving Aruba. It was a beautiful night with a full moon. Went back to Divi and spent a couple of hours with our friends, stayed up a little too late considering I did not pack yet (this is called denial) so I actually had to schedule a wake up call in the morning which I never do. Ended up waking up before the call anyway and even after I answered the automated call a half hour later the operator called to make sure we were up, this is a very nice thing to do especially if you are leaving that day, much appreciated. I will never leave the packing to the last day again it was not fun as Bully was going to pick us up at 10:00. I was packed early enough but could have done without the added stress of rushing around.
All in all a WONDERFUL trip, the best weather we have had in years, best sunsets in years . I believe we saw 3-4 rainbows most of the doubles in addition to a beautiful full moon which I always enjoy while in Aruba. I found the lunches at the buffet have improved, breakfasts still wonderful with my eggs benedict, my favorite breakfast lady would see me come in and give me a wink to start my eggs, what service! We met a couple from another board Linda and Ken who mentioned we should be members of the “Red Parrot Club” as we have been coming to Divi for more than 5 years. I checked on this and yes indeed we should and are now members. We were given our letter to receive 2 tee shirts as well as a $50 voucher a piece for either the casino or certain shops or restaurants. Thanks Linda and Ken! In addition I hear we will now be able to have some $$$ taken off our room if we book directly thru the hotel next trip, I will have to check this out I usually book thru Cheap Caribbean a package deal but this could end up saving us money and this way I will be able to purchase the air fare separately and watch the prices.
Peg – I am sorry to inform you I searched and searched for the small pink berries could not find them. If you are at the Divi next year when we are you will have to show me and we can try one together!
HockeyMom – I am sorry I did not see your post until after I met with Charles so could not say hello! Did mention you to JUAN however. Another bartender named “Jack” for short made me a great frozen cocktail I asked him what it was all he told me was it had no name (LOL)….then he told me it was a dirty banana, whatever it was it was good but I am glad he ran out of bananas a couple of those it would have been another early night(LOL)....
Flights home were good, smooth and quiet and once again early. Landed in BDL to some frozen drizzle so ride home was a bit nerve wrecking but my husband is a professional drive so I felt safe and we made it home in one piece. Cannot wait to return to Aruba and can only hope we have the great weather we had this year on our next trip.
