Friday 8/7 Cont - None of us were seated together on the first flight (Newark-Houston). I told the United agent that my son is very ADHD and should really not be seated with strangers. He moved us to the more leg room seats together - just me & my son but that was fine by me Got on the plane and there were many families not seated with their children. One woman was in first class - because she had been moved for some reason - and her 7 year old daughter was in row 28 next to my husband. He switched with the mom and wound up in first class - Brat! lol

Got to Houston fine. Had 20 minutes to get to the connector. Got there boarded and were told that the cock pit crew hadn't arrived from Mexico city yet and we would be delayed at least 45 minutes since they had to clear customs and grab a bite to eat. My 5 were seated next to each other all in one row & we were on our way to Aruba - I really didn't care much about the delay, other than the fact that it was HOT on that plane! Got to Aruba only 25 minutes late. Got thru lines and into Dufry within 15 minutes (including potty runs). The rep from Royal was in arrival hall waiting for us, took us all to the office, we were in our rentals 15 minutes later and heading to La Cabana!

Quick check in, rooms ready, unpacked a bit and went to Tropicana next door where my parents are staying for 2 nights. Everyone was starving so we went to Pizza Bob's at Tropicana. We usually stop at The Paddock on the way to LaCabana every year but didn't this year because we arrived later than usual. I think we may have a new tradition. LOVED Pizza Bob's! The most amazing thin crust pizza with LOADS of super fresh ingredients! It was really good! Food in our bellies and our first few Balashis and we were finally in paradise!

Jacki, I fly from Newark with United. They didn't have non-stop to Aruba? We always fly out of Newark on United non-stop to Aruba.

    Saturday 8/8

Woke up at 5. Hung out on the balcony waiting for the sun to wake up. I love watching the island wake

Went down to the lobby, dressed and ready to go to Super Food. found out they don't open till 8 so I walked around the property for a while just so excited to be here. took pics of everything, the closed & under construction Pata Pata bar. The temporary bar they set up, etc. Got in the car and drove around the island a little. Got to the Super Food Parking lot around 7:20. Saw people going in so figured I would too. Apparently they are not really strict with the hours of operation. Got some food shopping done & back to the room by 9. Went down to the pool & met the everyone for breakfast at The Islander Grill. Awesome omelettes! Went to the beach at 11:20 ish No Palapas available, but there was shade under the trees near the street so we set up camp there. Came back for frozen happy hour & Bingo at 2pm.

After the kids played in the pool, took out shuffle board equipment & a basketball. Each of those had to be signed out by an adult so my daughter did them. My youngest son came over to her in the pool and said "someone needs to talk to you at the Activities Center" She figured she had to sign something and went over to see her boyfriend standing there. My romantic heart was thrilled for her, my mom brain was furious. They went off to chat as happy hour began. They came back after 2 or 3 Aruba Arribas. Probably a good thing for him lol. He asked me if he could go have a little conversation and the Aruba Arribas said sure!

We went to the Islander for dinner. Had an amazing Chicken Margarita dish. Like a Parmesan, but with Gouda and diced tomatoes. Yum! Two people had the ribs which they both said were to die for. A few had burgers and loved them!

Went to make a small deposit at Glitz, kids & hubby had Cinnabon, then back to the room after a long emotional fun in the sun day

Non stop were over $900 by the time I booked. Most flights with one stop had 14 hour layovers in Miami. this was the best I could do. Believe me I looked at every possible option from Newark, JFK & LaGuardia. This flight with one stop each way was $510pp - big difference.

that happened to us but we were lucky we caught it at the lower figure. then it just popped up to over $900 pp. Now I understand why you did what you did. Well, you're there and that's what counts. Have fun.

Yup same boyfriend. He didn't sleep on the beach last night so I guess she accepted his apology and all is getting right between them.
