Had some trouble with the free wifi at LaCabana (shocker). Finally able to get on this morning. Wow this place is beautiful!
Friday 8/7 started with car service pick up at 3:30. Brianna & I fell asleep for about 1/2 hour so basically pulled an all nighter. Got to Newark with no problem, I had checked in on my phone & scanned our passports for using the kiosks to check in was super easy. Got thru TSA security fairly easy. My father had a hip replacement and always causes a scene at security. Even that wasn't bad. They had those new X-ray machines I guess - you have to go in & put your arms up above your head. I didn't have to do that since I got to go thru the old one with my under 12 yr old. As we are putting shoes back on, there was a transport person asking what gate. We told him and he said "jump on" so we waited for my parents, hopped on the "tram" and had a great fun ride as he swerved thru foot traffic happily yelling "beep beep....beeeeeeeeeeep beep" It was so cute and the kids thought it was the best thing ever.
Laptop battery almost dead! More later!
I fell out of one of those at Chicago, O'Hare on a business trip years ago - ensure the vehicle has come to a full stop before disembarking (I can hear the Disney voice over in my head).
Oh... and maybe watch how many Grey Goose's you consume while waiting for your delayed flight in the lounge. NOT that this was the real cause of why I fell out. Not really. Okay... maybe.
Thanks for keeping us in the loop. Hope, all goes well with the BF and your daughter.
Sorry to hear about your camera. That's too bad. As others already mentioned, I thought as well if you get another camera. Taking lots of pictures is just part of the fun and you are at the beginning of your vacation.
After the kids played in the pool, took out shuffle board equipment & a basketball. Each of those had to be signed out by an adult so my daughter did them. My youngest son came over to her in the pool and said "someone needs to talk to you at the Activities Center" She figured she had to sign something and went over to see her boyfriend standing there. My romantic heart was thrilled for her, my mom brain was furious. They went off to chat as happy hour began. They came back after 2 or 3 Aruba Arribas. Probably a good thing for him lol. He asked me if he could go have a little conversation and the Aruba Arribas said sure!
WOW! That boyfriend has a brass set... good luck with that!
Glad to hear that your trip to the One Happy Island was a pleasant one. Love La Cabana, even with it's wireless signal drops and all. The staff there is the best, they made me stay there last September the best out of all my visits to Aruba, the only thing that would have made it better was if I had been able to stay for an extra week. If you happen to run into Cynthia at the front desk tell her that I said 'Hi.' (If she does not remember me just tell her the guy who got hit by the car near the Super Food last September). As for Homeboy showing up, with you and your husband around I'm sure he's treading lighting and is on his P's and Q's.
Enjoy your visit and keep the updates coming.
Shopping day! My mom moved into her unit at LaCabana so she’s now ready for some food shopping so we decided to do some downtown shopping as well with my daughter & her BF. We started at the huts, then went across the street to the little Switzerland area, then back across the street to The Paddock for a quick lunch. I had the most amazing Italian Grilled Cheese – Gouda, tomato, salami & pesto! Brianna & my mother had the Gouda, ham & pineapple, Marco had ham & Gouda – they were all really good, but mine was the best!
Crossed the street again to the mall stores, decided we might as well hit Crystal casino since we were there. Marco won $100 on a $5 slot, the rest of us had our little donations. There was a woman at a machine that I wanted to play. I kept going over to see if she was done. The entire time her machine was still ringing and dinging and counting up her credits! Good for her. I think it was over $2k the last time I looked!
Then we went to da Pharmacy where I picked up Monopoly Aruba!! So excited! And on to Certified and that little mall area. It’s not exactly as I remember. I used to do a lot of shopping there. Yesterday I only bought canned/boxed goods and Balashi. There were plenty of pool noodles there – the cheap kind if anyone is looking for them.
Then we went to Ling’s for more good food shopping. Back to LC to unpack all the treasures and hit the pool. Hung out till Happy Hour and then up to the room for showers and getting ready for dinner.
After all that shopping who wants to cook? We decided to go to Chalet Suisse. On the way out the door I asked the concierge if she thought we would need a reservation. We usually don’t bother, but the island seems a bit busier this year. She said of course you do and it’s because of vacation. She called, they said it was fine and we walked right in and were shown to our table. Apps included Escargot, Cesar Salad, coconut shrimp & a few French Onion soups. Meals were a few Filet Mignons, 2 Chicken Chalet (chicken breast stuffed with spinach & mushrooms in a cream cheese sauce – Brianna’s had cream cheese in it, mine did not but I really didn’t care as it was delicious anyway), Weiner snitchzel, some other steak , Lobster Thermidor & chicken fingers. Everything was great. The food was cooked to perfection. The service was a little slow. Maybe a lot slow. I try to give them the benefit of the doubt and understand that it’s Aruba time but the servers were really working hard and running around the restaurant all night. They were just plain understaffed for the crowd they had. Two & a half hours after arriving Brianna & I put our left overs together on one plate to wrap. Long story short, they threw them away and made us a new meal to take home. This made us wait there even longer, but completely made up for the accidental toss IMO.
Back to the room for a little relaxation and bed!
