More stuff from an Arubaholic’s wonderful vacation July 1-9, 2012:
I lost a credit card and was quick to cancel it the next morning. By the time we got back to our room in the afternoon, Eric from White Modern had called. Seems I was so blown away with the experience that I left my card with them! Happy ending, thanks Eric!
The Radisson was very busy this year with the renovations completed. Lot’s of families with kids too. No kid problems at all. They just seem to blend in these days.
The Radisson staff, as always, is a really fine group of friendly well trained people that genuinely care that you have a great time at their resort. Thanks to all of you!
Signing up for a palapa after 4 each afternoon did reserve a spot for the next day, but by 4:30 there wasn’t much to choose from. Amazing the number of palapas on the beach that have towels all day, but almost no visable occupants. Can’t help but think that some of those folks are grabbing an umbrella by the pool too or just came back late after shopping!
The Casino at the Radisson was going through a management company change last year. I recognized a lot of the same staff this year. Most of the slots are now ‘ticket out’ machines…. No more coins to handle. No big wins for me like I had enjoyed a couple of previous years. I did have fun and didn’t donate more than I comfortably could. The comp system has changed and is really really tight. I used to be able to plan on a couple of meal comps with my play pattern, but not this year. Just a couple of dollars back from the little machine by the casino host desk. Glad I still have a couple of Radisson Casino hats from a few years ago.
DW and I would do walks in the am and the pm. I generally don’t go the distance that she goes. One day I walked her to the Pelican’s Nest while she went on. I decided to use the walkway at the hotels. Boy was the concrete HOT! Sooooo, I toughed it out (macho old guy) and ended up with first degree burns on the heels of my feet! Hurt a bunch when I realized what had happened and I was starting to think ‘wheelchair’…. Fortunately the blisters healed in a couple of days with no broken skin. I did have a bunch of discomfort for a couple of days and a lot of tiptoe walking…. But, again, happy ending! Hope I learned my lesson….. we’ll see!
This was the second 4th of July that we enjoyed fireworks on the beach in front of the Hyatt. I had emailed the concierge to check before we left and he got back to me with a 10 PM time. Fortunately we were on the beach at 9:30 when they actually started. I really hope the nice family we talked to at the airport Sunday were on the beach early too. I hate to think that the little girls missed them.
Hyatt had a big 4th cookout starting early. At 9:30 the band started playing the Star Spangled Banner. Half way through, the fireworks started. We were south of Piet’s Pier and had a direct line of sight to the barge that was discharging the fireworks. Great 15-20 minute display.
Sad day Sunday going home….. breakfast at Laguna and then another beach walk, packing and leaving.
We normally leave the Radisson 2.5-3 hours before our flight but for some reason we left about 3 hours and 20 minutes before. DW was really glad we did because there was no one in line at the airport and we breezed right through to the gate. She actually prefers waiting the extra time in the ‘crying room’ before the flight than to wait in processing lines! Our flight boarded on time, took off on time and landed quite early. Monte was there at Logan to pick us up and drive the hour to the house. Home and the dogs and cat were Ok but dunno how I’ll be…. Just wanna get back to Aruba!
Sharing my trip details and thoughts has been a joy as I really enjoy Aruba…. Please let me know if you have any questions.
You will not see a countdown ticker on my posts! Because Arubaholics have to take it one day at a time and it’s only been 6 for me.

CP - you crack me up, thanks for the giggles.....there are a lot of us Arubaholics....nothing to be ashamed of. I am actually going to have withdrawls from reading your trip reports! Hurry and go Back! Glad you had a great time and I agree with your honey, I am always at the airport earlier than suggested but figure you have to wait either way it is more fun to wait in the lounge or just people watch than to be stuck in line. The only part that is really bad is when the lucky people arriving look down at us with sad faces as our vacation is ending as theirs is starting....it works both ways though I do the same when we arrive I look at their sad faces and their tans to figure out how the weather was (LOL)...good luck adjusting to the real world.
