    Just back from Divi AI

We stayed at Divi AI from Nov 10-19th. We left Boston JB direct at 8am arrived around 1:45. Was a line waiting to get thru customs but not too bad. Our bags were already on the carousel when we got downstairs and out we go to rain? Yes I know it's rainy season but was still surprised to see it! Optima was waiting for us and off we were to their office. So we get to the office and realize my husband has brought his old license-Oh my what to do. Manager came out and spoke to my husband and let us rent the car anyways- WOW couldn't believe it but was no problem as we knew what year the new one expired so was told to tell if we got pulled over to say we lost his license in Aruba. Well my husband is a driver for a living,we barely used the car and no police pulled us over. I have to note that Oprima office overall had the nicest people to deal was such a breath of fresh air after dealing with the rude people at Econo. Not sure we would rent a car again as we like our cocktails in the afternoon which makes the car off limits at nighttime. So we rented the car and we were off to Divi. Checked into a casita room-326 oceanfront! Loved this room as we literally walked out to beach! We had stayed here once before in May 2013 for 5 days but our room was on the cart path so this time I asked for a king room not on the cart path- so glad I did! We mostly spent our days being beach bums! On the 11th we went to Matthews for my husbands birthday. We did not have the fly problem we had in May but my husbands beef that he ordered medium was rare- like moving rare.Yuk! My Pina colada shrimp was yummy! Husband sent back his beef but still came back rare and we gave up. We ordered the proffelites for dessert and they came out with a sparkler candle and sang him a happy birthday so it was a nice send off. Not sure that we will be back because of the undercooked steak. We spent our nights gambling at Albahama. We mostly play roulette and we are not big gamblers- we try to stay around 120.00 a night. Most nights we would lose around half of it so we were happy. On one night my husband won 450.00 so we were up for the week. The next night he was up 120.00! Overall we were up so we were very happy! We took some of the money and had a couples relaxion massage at Spa del Sol at Manchebo- wonderful! We will be back! We also had tapas one night at Fusion- mixed platter and 4 balashi chill-they do add service charge but bill was under $30, left an additional tip so spent 35$. We would definitely go back here! One night we had dinner at Ricardos. My husband had the argentinean beef and I had the coconut scallops. My husband ordered the beef medium ( same as Matthews) and it came out medium- perfect! I had a sangria husband had water. No room for dessert. Have to say we will be back! Loved that there veggies were cooked perfectly and the rice/potatoes were also yummy! They definetly were better than Matthews. We also took the car down to Palm beach one afternoon for my Sate platter and balashi chill at Bugaloe. My husband had a grouper sandwich. Love this bar and we had a nice time there chatting with 2 couples who were there on a work incentive program. I want to work for that company! The other meals we had at Divi. We only went to two of their ala carte restaurants. Paparazzi and Ginger. Loved Ginger but didn't care for Paparazzi. Wish we had tried Ginger earlier because I would have loved to try other things there. Husband had the wonton soup and chicken curry,I had tempura and chicken sate,no room for dessert.we both loved what we had here. The other evenings we had the buffet and we always found something we liked! I thought the buffet was much better than last time. In the mornings the buffet was great. We had fried eggs, omelette, pancakes, waffles,French toast, eggs Benedict, fresh fruit, sausage, bacon, cereal and on and on- if you can't find something here you are crazy. Lunch we went back and forth on buffet and thin crust pizza from the pizza bar. We never went hungry. We loved the sandpiper bar during the day- beer was colder and Curtis is the best! Spent many nights at the bar by the buffet with new friends we made. We did watch the Patriots in the lobby- real nail biter but they Won in the last minute and we had a great time celebrating. Overall we had a great experience at Divi AI. I know people complain about the help here but we never saw this. Everyone we came in contact with was very friendly and helpful. It did pour on Wednesday afternoon and flooded the lobby- all the workers pitched in and worked on clearing the water out. Sprinkled off and on after the downpour for the rest of that day/night. We woke up yesterday to another cloudy day but alas it was time to go home so made it somewhat easier to leave. We did have to get up early to get a palapa as none were left most days by 7 am. Not a problem for me because I get up at 2:45am for work so after 5:30 in the morning I was wide awake. Usually went and tagged a palapa after I heard other people out there and then watched the island wake up from our patio. We took the 3:30 flight home on SW yesterday. We arrived a little before 1 no problem checking in at SW counter but we were in a long line at the first doorway afterwards and another long line for security check point. Used the passport readers and we're all thru by 2:15. Left on time. Got to Baltimore and our flight was delayed until 9pm( originally supposed to leave at 8:10). Somewhere along the way I lost my kindle( boo hoo- hope whoever finds it likes dirty romance books- haha- I took it off my Amazon account today) and my luggage stayed in Baltimore. It's supposed to be delivered tonight between 10pm-2am. I am back to work tommorow and dreaming of our return to ABC next May.

Enjoyed your report. We will arrive at the Divi on Monday. We really enjoy it there and absolutely love the staff. Wondering if the Mexican restaurant was any where near opening?

We generally stay at the Divi in May and then again Thanksgiving week which has always been quiet. There are generally palapas available off and on all day. The day after the holiday is when it starts to get busy again.

If if you should decide to go back to Matthews at another time I can tell you their lasagna is quite good. We're not really fans of Paparazzi either.

    Thanks for your trip report.

You stayed at the Divi AL? Aww, you missed the ice bucket challenge by just a couple of hours.

My luggage has arrived overnight on my deck! Was really hard to tell how the Mexican restaurant is coming along but they did tell us it was opening in December. The addition does seem to be moving right along though. We heard that they will be putting in another bar over by the addition. I forgot to mention that we had 2 days of rough waves- so much one day that I couldn't go in so I cooled off in the pool by the garden rooms. This pool was nice and quiet compared to the one by the lobby. I would just go and dunk myself and chat with whomever was in the pool and then head on back to the palapa to laze. We really just had the best laid back vacation but today I am back to reality- gotta go into work for a few hours- need to make money for our next trip!

Thank you for the update on the Mexican restaurant. That small pool near the garden rooms is perfect for those days that the ocean is too tough. Glad you had a great vacation.

Thanks for the nice review. I don't see to many reports on my favorite place Divi AI. Getting excited reading your report. Hopefully the waves will calm down for our upcoming trip, prefer the ocean over the pool any day. However, I do like to dip in the pool while waiting for DH to go into ocean for me, I do love to meet people and chat while just cooling off. I cannot wait to see the new renovations and the wonderful staff. Happy planning your return visit
