    Lightbulb Just Wanna Go Back...!

Just Wanna Go Back...! I'm having some serious withdrawel... don't know if I'm gonna be OK!!!

Overall.... just a perfect week for us at the Radisson after months of anticipation. Aruba continues to be the right vacation choice for us. Perfect beach, wonderful dining and some good casinos for me. The friendliness of the people, perfect weather and a very safe place make it all great!

Up at 3:30 on the 25th for a 4:30 pickup for the hour ride to Logan... really thinking we shoulda left earlier! Logan at 5:30 with immediate check in at JetBlue, our bags were 25 and 35 pounds.... DW was more with here natural beauty supplies!.... stopped at DD for coffee and a snack and then thru security.... line was long but thru in 15 minutes. Got to the gate by 6:10 for the 7:30 flight. Boarded and pulled back from the gate on time and sat on the tarmac for 20 minutes and knew there would be a problem with this flight because of the noises we heard from the back of the plane... wrong.... took off with an uneventful flight and landed about 15 minutes late.... During the flight we discovered that adjoining aisles make the best seating arrangements for us! DW doesn't have to worry about waking me up (if I even nap) and I have plenty of opportunity to stand and move about.... I just don't fly (or even sit in one spot for a while) well!!!

Got thru immigration quickly by simply choosing the right line... then off to baggage claim to wait for the luggage. DW did a pit stop and I hit duty free before the bags started coming. Thinking about the plane with 25 rows and 6 across each row... that's normally about 150 +/- bags to off load... that's not a lot! Grabbed the bags, got in the really short line for a taxi and we got to the Radisson at just about 1:45! Now the wait begins...... rooms not ready. This is the first time we've had to wait much time for a room to be ready..... so off to Gilligans for a light lunch and Aruba Aribas! Had to stop in the lobby shp and buy a beach bag since neither of us thought to pack one! Now we have 6 or 7 Aruba beach bags to choose from next year! Back to the lobby at about 3:00 and the room still isn't ready..... sat in the lobby just wanting to get checked in so we could hit the beach. Bingo... at 3:35 I walked over to registration and the room was 'just completed'.....

I had upgraded to a partial ocean view and we were in 2403 which is in the Bonaire tower... great choice.... wonderful view and a quiet location. By 4:10 we were unpacked, changed and in the water! What a great place to be after a long day of travel. Gilligans was good too for a couple more Aruba Aribas around 5:00. We hung at the beach until after 6 and got ready for a light dinner at Casa Tua. What a great choice for dinner... pizza was a very thin crust which was cooked perfectly and we each had salads. After a couple of glasses of wine for DW and an Amstel Bright for me the bill came to just $60 with a good tip. We were both pretty worn out so I walk DW back to the room and went down to The Casino and played until about midnight when I needed to get into a horizontal position..... so up to the room and 'night night!'

Our days were all the same! We don't have any desire to do anything but hang on the beach and read, nap, get in the water.... and repeat the process over and over again! We'd get up about 8 and hit Laguna for the breakfast buffet and then off to the palapa! On a side note.... Laguna underwent a very nice face lift since we were there last summer. Paint... new chafing dishes and some decor enhancements. Laguna looks good. The buffet offers dozens of combinations for breakfast with at least 10+ fresh fruits every day probably 10+ breakfast breads/pastries and too much good food!

Lunch was either at Bugaloe or Salt and Peppers each day.... didn't really need lunch... except that it made the Amstel Brights legitimate!!! We did have a bad meal at S&P one day.... DW's greek salad had sand in it and I never should ordered a BLT there.... too much bacon (even for me), not enought tomato and lettuce! I should have stuck with the tapas that they do so well. We've eaten lunch at S&P at least 20 times over the years and this is the first bad experience...... the Amstel Brights were ice cold and the salad was taken off the bill. The next time we went.... was all back to normal. I finally tried a cheeseburger at Bugaloe and it was the best I had in a very long time! Bugaloe is really cool for lunch and has some of the most uncomfortable tables, chairs and stools..... but I wouldn't change a thing... good inexpensive food, cheap drinks and icy cold Amstel Bright!

DW had massages at the Larimar Spa on three afternoons and there was no problem scheduling these a day ahead for 5pm each day so they wouldn't cut into beach time too much. We also hit Gilligans each day for happy hour.... 12.46 is the number that comes to mind.... that's for 2 Aruba Aribas with a $2 tip..... there were lots of those on my hotel bill!!!

A couple of days we'd rent a 14' Hobie Cat for an hour ($55) from Aruba Watersports and sail for an hour. The first time out we got a couple of 12" tears in the sail and I brought it in a bit early to avoid additional damage. The second time out was the only day we had rain and that was just some light showers while we were on our sail. Lots of wind that day.... I like fast... but DW likes slow..... no fast for our sails this week. Sailing really is a great way to see Palm Beach and the hotels properties!

Our evenings were pretty much meeting in the lobby around 7-7:30 and go to dinner. If a taxi was involved we come back to the Hyatt or the Westin cruise the hotel and walk back on the beach. I'd walk DW to the room and visit on the balcony for a bit and then I'd hit The Casino at the Radisson. DW would go to sleep and I'd visit with my friends in the casino.

I'll review dinners seperately with choices, costs and ratings..... that's what foodies do!

I have really grown to like a lot of the folks in the casino over the years..... very friendly and helpful! At the casino.... I either play blackjack or video poker.... never anything else. I can sit at a BJ table for hours and struggle up a bit..... down a bit.... sometimes it's up a lot and if I have any smarts I'll get up and leave the table.... if I'm down a bunch... I try to do the same. I regularly leave a BJ table and play video poker to relax or take a breather. Lady Luck was with me Friday night..... not once, but twice! I took a break from BJ around 10:30 to play some video poker and was fortunate enought to hit four dueces by 10:45 for a $1000 payout! Nice! I played BJ for another couple of hours and went back to video poker around 12:45! At a couple of minutes before 1am..... the bells and whistles and lights started flashing...... yup! Lady Luck came calling..... my Royal Flush paid $4000! At that point, I knew I'd be taking some money home again this year! Nothing big for the rest of the week..... but I continued to play and had fun. Without the wins at video poker.... I woulda been down for the week! My picture was taken and actually appeared in 'Aruba Today' on Tuesday when we were leaving! My coupla seconds of fame!

We're looking to do the first couple of weeks in July next year. We missed seeing any of the Hi-Winds competition and especially the 4th of July fireworks!

I did finish 4 novels while in Aruba, Lee Child (wife read), Vince Flynn, John Sanford, Randy Wayne White and Michael Connelly. Each book was left on a table in the lobby for the next reader when I was finished with it. Don't think anything lasted more than 20 minuted without a new owner! Good.... just pass it forward!

Didn't do any significant shopping.... coupla T-Shirts for the house sitter and son.... new sequined shirt for DW and I was able to find the car magnet that was knocked off my car in the car wash 6 months ago... that's a win!

Palm Beach (and Aruba) sure has changed over the years....first time on the beach I couldn't help but see the Ritz hotel at the end of Palm Beach.... It's a beautiful building, but I hate to see it there... it's too big for the space and I hate to see the changes. I hated to see the Aruba Grand go away and be replaced by the Riu.... I hated to see all the additional buildings for the Marriott properties.... I just don't like change... but change is inevitable and we can only hope it's for the best!

What a great report. You can feel that happy vacation vibe. Getting up at 3:30 to get to Logan doesn't sound fun though. We always stay at the Logan Hilton the night before so it's not so much of a rush. We just think of it as a head start on vacation. You can also take the water taxi over to the North End for dinner. Glad you had fun.

Was looking foward to your trip report CP and not disappointed, happy to hear you had a wonderful time! Gee whiz....if I were on that plane with noises coming from the back and it still took off I think I would have been stressed the entire flightglad you had a safe flight. Too late this year but I had been thinking about the whole adjacent aisle seats for DH and myself as I always get the yucky middle seat glad to know it works well. I'll bet ya that first Bright went down fast and tasted so good, can't wait to get my first one again in November We also leave our books for the next guests or the housekeeper, leaves my suitcase more room for souveniers (lol). CONGRATS on your lucky casino winnings!!!! How exciting, I probably would of booked a return trip before I left. Wish your picture was in the Morning News Aruba, I can never open the Aruba Today paper not sure if everyone has that problem or not. Welcome back to New England and the dreadful heat spell and hope your dream of 2 weeks in July 2014 happens!
