    La Cabana May 25 - June 8

The first 4 days of the trip I was alone and my husband and son joined me for the last 10 days. The trip started off a bit rocky when upon check in my credit card was denied. I only have two cards, one debit and one credit both through my credit union. I assumed it was because I hadn't contacted them before leaving the country but that wasn't it. I was able to take money out of the ATM and give them a cash deposit. After trial and error we discovered our cards were excepted by the international banks such as RBBT and CMT but not through Aruba Bank for some reason. It was a hassle but we learned to have enough cash on hand to cover any purchases if made somewhere that used Aruba Bank.

    Rather than eat out a lot we cooked at home. Some of the meals we had were;

Bingos - twice, once the salad of the sea (YUM) and the Bingo Burger.

Texas de Brazil - used my free dinner coupon for my birthday and still wound up with a $170 tab for two dinners, 4 glasses of wine and a dessert.

Tony Romas - high price for average food.

Busters Garage - food was awful but was a great place to watch the hockey games.

    The Paddock - good sandwiches.
Lindas Pancakes - was good but not as good as I remembered.

Casa Tua - pizza was good but Paella was not good at all.

La Granja - whole roasted chicken, grilled pork, potatoes, rice and drinks for $24. Good deal.

Rented a car from Royal even after second guessing it after reading reviews and I won't make that mistake again. The car was a total piece of crap so traded it for another car which ran very rough and the A/C barely ran.

Enough about the negatives. The island was beautiful and I loved spending the days sitting by the water. I have had a stressful few months at work and all of that was just washed away. I had forgotten how beautiful it is. Last time I stayed in Palm Beach and this time at Eagle Beach. I definitely love Eagle Beach more.

    Some tips:

I took several floats but found myself not using them much. The ones that submerge you in the water made me too cold.

I took a rolling cooler but it was a little too big and seemed to be a hassle. Next time a cold bag or soft sided cooler bag.

Between the three grocery stores they each have their positives and negatives. Shop around. The stores are very close together and you can save a few bucks if you price compare

    I can't wait to return!

from what i have seen over the past few yrs.......folks that stay at the high rise (palm beach) that try out the lo rise (eagle beach) seem to be HOOKED once they see and experience Eagle Beach.

Great that you had a wonderful time JENS!

As for the The Paddock, never again. We had 2 dinners not delivered (out of 5); all along, the manager "promised" that the 2 meals were coming out (after 1.5 hours there), but our GC was crankin' it up,approaching bed-time and we had to roll; In the end, the Manager insisted we pay for the 2 undelivered meals.
    Place wasn't crowded at all.
This fall, El Gaucho!!! twice for dinner this time!

    Andrea,
Yes, the 2 undel. dinners were paid by my wife because my daughter wanted to get out of there without a fuss (she was 5 months pregnant) and the young one was squirming. I did tell the manager that it was unacceptable and we would not be back. I was going to keep at him until he became reasonable, but he got that 'tude going.
Some background, my son-in-law has been to Aruba for about 12 yrs now and my daughter for the 5 yrs that they have been married; they have dined at the Paddock, as well as lunched there at least once during each vacay. My wife and friends have also dined there a few times as well. This was my first time there.
I didn't want to pay for the undel. dinners, but things were getting a little tense and my son-on-law was trying to calm down the little guy so he took him to the Burger King so SIL could get anythAng to eat.
Know how these situations become irritating to the entire family?
