    Live ftom Divi Phoenix

Flew on Delta from Tul-ATL-AUA with no poblems. Arrived at 02:30 Saturday, 10 minutes early. Got luggage and met Hans from Tropic for car. Smooth transaction and out of the airport in 3 minutes. Arrived at Divi Phoenix at 03:10 and got in line at check in. It was after 3:30 before we got to the (ounter. This is when the trouble started. Desk clerk said our room(723) was not ready yet and they gave us a pager and said they would page us when it was ready. We went to the restaurant by the pool and had a happy hour drink. Problem is, they wont give you frozen drinks at happy hour, just beer and on the rocks. Never heard of that anywhere else on the island. After 30 minutes we decided to split a wrap and fries. 40 minutes later I decided to go check the room we were assigned to. Turns out that the 7 stands for the building number and the 23 stands for the floor and room number. Our room was on the second floor in building 7. I went to the room and the door was locked and no cleaning person was in sight. I went to the desk and the lady said our room still was not ready. I said I was just there and no one is cleaning it. She made a phone call and was told that the room had been cleaned earlier in the day and had inadvertantly not been put on the clean list. So we get in the room at 6. It was dirty and things were not working. There was a dirty towel hanging on the shower door and a wash rag in the floor. The floor in all the rooms seemed to have sand on them. The fan over the bed vibrated and ocilated at the ceiling so we turned it off because we were afraid it would fall on us. On top of that, I think it was the only room in the resort without an ocean view. All you could see was the pool and buildings. I went to the desk and told the lady the room was unacceptable. She said there were no other rooms available Saturday but we should be able to change us Sunday at noon. I took a list of the problems down to the desk Sunday at 09:00 and the new desk clerk said she had room 653 available. I asked to see it and she sent me up with a bellman. The room was clean and the fan in the bedroom worked fine and there was no sand on the floor. The view from the 5th floor is great. I bet this room was available Saturday at 4.

I went to Super foods Saturday night after we got in the room. Big mistake. It was packed with people, I mean packed. You could barely get your cart through anywhere and had to wait on people to move so you could get something. I decided to only get stuff for the next day and left.

Went to the pool and beach after breakfast and stayed out till noon. Had lunch in the room and watched 30 minutes of football then went to Lings and stocked up for the week. No crowds there. Peaceful and relaxed shopping.

Went to the Pelicans nest for dinner and had the grilled grouper with grilled veggies and rice($21.25). Excellent as usual. Stopped in at the HI casino for the first time in years and remembered why we dont go there. Put $40 in a couple of machines and didnt hit anything at all.

    How was your weekend?

wow, that check in did not sound warm and fuzzy at all.
so, you stayed in the dirty room? did housekeeping come at all and spiff it up a bit?
so glad it was not me there, as my politeness after a long day of travel would be quite UGLY.

glad that on day 2, things were better!!!

my weekend was good. we came home from maine, did laundry, grocery shopped, joined weight watchers, swam laps and now watching the NE Pats.

    thank you for sharing

Love that grilled grouper at Pelicans. Are you owners at the Phoenix? If not was it a rental, or did you book direct? I'm curios how that works when you own or rent a certain unit but it is unacceptable.
Not sure when, but we will be back

Thanks for sharing your first few days! Even with the stressful check in, I'm sure my great weekend was not as amazing as yours!

Hope all the drama with the room didn't put a damper on the rest of your trip.

We own a timeshare in Las Vegas and traded it through RCI for a week at the Phoenix. Last 3 years we have traded it for a week at Costa Linda and rented an extra week from an owner there. You can get owner rentals at most of the timeshares on Aruba. We have gotten them from Aruba Beach Club, Casa Del Mar, Costa Linda, Renaissance suites Playa Linda and Surf Club. They are available at La Cabana and a couple of others as well. If the room is unacceptable they will usually change it but not always. They will usually try to make it right. When you trade through RCI you are not given a room number anymore and get whatever room the resort wants to give you. When you rent from an owner, you get the room they own. At Costa Linda we rented rooms on the 4th floor center section the last 3 years and traded for a second week through RCI. Costa Linda put us in the same room the second week once and in the room next door the other two times. Some resorts are not as accomodating as CL.

Getting ready to go to Blossoms for dinner. Made a boo boo this morning. We went to the pool so Linda could do water aerobics. I walked down with her and she asked me to do them with her as there were only a couple of people there so I did. My 2 week old Iphone6S and I walked into the pool together. I had not planned on swimming and had forgotten it was in my swim trumks pocket until I was chest deep in the pool. Dont know yet if it is going to work or not. Its sitting in a bowl of rice. Casino after dinner. Not sure this is my lucky day.

    oh no!!
i hope it recovers and if not, i hope that you had/have insurance on it.

we have declined the insurance thru verizon and have gotten the insurance thru square trade (i think it is called square trade)
    it is affordable.
