    Long Report October 17-24

Let me start by say that we are not hang out at the beach orpool all day type people, so very little of that goes on in this report. We love Aruba and this in only our thirdtrip. I am gluten free and the island really seemsto accommodate that in most places.
Saturday – left Orlando on Southwest, flight was prettybumpy causing even the stewards to remain seated most of the three hourflight.
Arrived about 20 minutes early around 1:00, left the gateand the line to clear customs was backed up down the ramp. We heard many people saying they had neverseen it that backed up. We have onlyvisited twice prior and always arrived on a weekday so it was new to us, but Ihad read a lot here and expected it. Ittook us two hours to clear customs and get outside to meet Hans to pick up therental car.
Checked into the Divi Phoenix, super quick and easy and unpacked real quick andheaded out to Ling and Sons for our weeks goodies after taking that back to theroom we needed to eat. Went to Salt andPeppers for just a quick dinner. I hadpotato soup and a glass of sangria we shared some nachos and hubby had a fewbalashi (I will also review therestaurants in that section). Back tocheck out the hotel and the beach a little then off to bed.
Each morning started out exactly the same for us, we areearly risers so we would have our coffee on the balcony shortly after we wereout there we would watch the same man come out and save 6-8 chairs at the pooland then disappear. The pool nor thechairs were every full, and many times we never saw this group come back to thepool making us laugh and name him the pool guy. After coffee we would take along walk on the beach and head back to get ready for the days activities.
Sunday – Since it was Sunday we knew some things would beclosed or open later in the day, so we just explored the island a little by carto familiarize our self and take in some of the changes. We headed downtown to and checked out thenew parking meters, no fees on Sunday so we parked and went to the Sidebar forlunch. Hubby had the afterburner burgerwith fries, I had the BZT chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries, and iceteas. Chicken was a little dry but myhusband said the burger was very good. Dinner was at Elements, we both had a soupand hubby ordered the Chicken Alfredo, and I ordered the ChickenAsparagus. Both meals were verygood.
Monday – we had an all day rental of a side by side 4x4 fromRoadRunner. Rachel met us in the lobbyat 9:00 and we got all of our do’s and dont’s. She provided us with a great map and mapped out different routes for usto take for the day. Off we went, weheaded up to the lighthouse to see the work being done and try to get somegreat pictures, the to the Alto Vista Chapel then to Phillips AnimalGarden. A young man there (can’tremember his name) provided us with a bag of food and showed us the best way tofeed the animals to avoid getting bit. He explained how most of the animals ended up there and about the feedthey grow, and we explored on our own. Nice park. From here we drove tothe Arikok National Park (we passed on the natural pool as we had been before)we visited the caves and just explored the area. Left via baby beach and the windmills andtook some of the smaller roads back to our hotel. We had rented for 8 hours but 6 hours and wewere beat, we showered and called Rachel to come pick up the rental and we wereheading out to dinner, we were starved. Dinner was at Wacky Wahoo. We tried to call and make reservationsseveral times and no one answered the phone, so we took a quick ride there tosee if anyone was there and we could make reservations for as soon as theyopen. They were there, and low andbehold two people were sitting at the bar area and the phone was ringing offthe hook. We were able to come in at5:30, dinner was a barracuda shrimp combo and the wahoo which was one of thefresh catches. (I think there were 5that night). Dinner was very good.

Tuesday – this was a shopping day for us, we were in searchof a watch for my husband. He loveswatches and every time we have been on the island we have gotten a great dealon a watch for him. We were also on ahunt for a few souvenirs. Found a watchand some shoes I seem to buy every trip as well, and our souvenirs, in ouroutings we saw that TGI Friday’s was advertising a Gluten Free Menu on a bigboard outside the restaurant. I amgluten free so we slipped in and low and behold nothing on that menu was ontheir menu and they had nothing gluten free, so we paid for our soda and wentover to Tony Romas. After dinner we hitup the Alhambra where combined we lost about $60.00

Wednesday – It seemed extra windy making the water rougherthan normal, we loved it. It was our anniversaryand we just wanted a very unplanned and relaxed day. We had breakfast at Dianna’s Pancake house bythe Mill. I had printed three day tripsuggestions from a E-book online here, we decided to do one of those today andget to the highest point on the island. Not realizing at some point in our exploration we had been there. Spent some time taking photos at baby beach, had a few drinks at the little bar there talked with a nice young couple thereon their first trip. I gave them ourday trip suggestions and off we went for more pictures, we went to the Arubasign down by barefoot, I took pictures by the west deck of some boats andpelicans. Dinner was Yemanja, I hadtomato soup, hubby had the potato soup. Hubby had the pork chop and I had the boursin wrapped grouper, this wasthe bet meal we had on in the island in my opinion.
Thursday – We headed out to the rock formations for somepictures, we had not been here in 9 years, it had changed a lot sincethen. It seemed warmer today thannormal, we also needed to grab a few last minute things to take home. Gambled some at the casino at the holidayinn, no big winners, but this casino has done us well in the past. Barefoot for dinner, both of us had asteak, hubby had a sirloin and I had the tenderloin. We were both pleased with our meals.
Friday – after our morning routine we spent most of the mid-morningafternoon packing up and organizing everything to head home the next morningand just relaxing some around the room. Around lunch we headed to Hollywood smokehouse, hubby had a burger, Ihad ribs, both were very good. Afterwards we went into the Alhambra, no real winnings, we just made donationsthis trip I guess. That night we hadreservations at Pinchos. The electricwent out for about a minute in our room around, about 15 minutes later Pinchoscalled to cancel our reservation since the island had no electric. We were confused at first because we hadelectric, but upon opening our door we could hear the generator. So we headed out to find someone that wouldhave a generator, first stop Daniels Steak house area, it was black except forthe Giannini group restaurants, but the generators were not working their AC sothey were only utilizing outside tables and the waits were already verylong. We decided to hit up a resortsince they seem to have generators and felt like we would have better luck inthe low rise area. So we went to Windows. They had no running water, so bathrooms wereout of order and all water would be bottled, ok, no big deal….probably ourleast favorite meal on the island, but it wasn’t bad and it was really out of everyone’scontrol. We still needed gas in therental car and this was out of the question for the night.
Saturday – knowing we needed gas and knowing theairport is normally insane on Saturday we called Hans to meet us a littleearlier than we originally planned and headed out. Checkout at the Phoenix was very painless, but I had to chuckle when “pool guy” was checking out in front of me but was inhis suit and they were headed to the pool before the airport. After checking in at Southwest the line forcustoms was outside down the sidewalk, an airport employee came and took alarge group of us down to the “non us flights” area and we cleared Aruba customsthere instead. 1.5 hours and we were atour gate. We enjoyed drinks with somefirst timers we had met in line and had been chatting with. The flight back to Orlando was rough again, but nothing like the first one and pretty much only over Cuba where the weatherwas bad.

The story of Wacky Wahoo made me laugh. You went there and heard the phone ringing off the hook while 2 guys hung around the bar ignoring the ring. Unbelievable and they won't take email reservations. Thanks for posting.

the reservation system with wacky wahoo is frustrating.
i find it not only frustrating and consider it very arrogant and unprofessional.
they are thumbing their noses at their customers.
