    March 11-25. Trip Number 8

I never used to post trip reports, as I thought, why bore someone with the blah, blah, blah. The funny thing is, is that I actually enjoy reading everyone else's. They're funny, informative, and the interaction within the Forum gets one through the times that we're not on the island.

So here it goes on a day to day basis while it's somewhat fresh from the previous night's hangover.

Travel Day: We're up at 3:30 AM to catch a 6 AM out of Syracuse, NY. Syracuse to JFK was right on time. Our connection gate was fairly close and upon our arrival they were boarding. We backed off the gate on time and after a brief taxi we were in the air. We hit the runway on Aruba at 12:53, less than 4 hours of flight time. The approach was a little shaky, as it was pretty windy, but the pilot did an excellent job keeping us leveled out. For those of you that noticed the attention to landing time, it was stated for a reason, as I'm thinking that this must be close to a record from touch down to lobby area. We came down the escalator to immigration and headed to the last line, next to crew, and literally had one person in front of us. We blew through immigration and we're in the lobby by 1:07, 14 minutes from touchdown to sunshine! This was our third car rental experience from Wheels2go, and I must say that Ricky is consistent. We walked out of the airport and he was standing there waiting for us. Excellent service...

We stopped at Price Smart and purchased a membership. Our first impression is this, if you're on the island long enough to utilize bulk purchases, it's probably worth it. The jury is still out on whether it will benefit us much. We did pick up quite a bit of alcohol though, which was a cost savings. I guess we'll just have to drink a lot to break even...

We settled in at the condo we're renting in Palma Real and started the Price Smart break even process. After a few beverages we went to Super Foods for our daily needs and then thought it was best to swallow some beer sponges, so we went to Bavaria for some great German Food. They are now serving barbecue, along with the German and Thai food. Peter extended Happy Hour for us, which we really didn't need at this point, but what the heck, we're on vacation.

We traveled north past the Ritz, and pulled in on the sand to watch the sunset and passing sail boats. Great ending to a perfect travel day.

On our way back to Palma Real we stopped at Barney's for a night cap. The place was packed for Grouper night, but we were still able to sit at the bar and chat with the owners. Nice people and hard working. We'll be back at least one more time while we're here.

    Great start!

I love reading trip reports. Not only does it give me an Aruba fix but it satisfies my curiousity as to what restaurants people enjoy. Looks like Barneys is one of the most popular these days.

Thanks for taking the time to write your report. I love reading everyone's experiences. I prefer trip reports over just straight reviews because you get a good feel of whether you have similar interests/likes/tastes. Best wishes with your quest to break even from Price Smart! I am interested in how that turns out and wondering if it would be worth it for us.
We had a great experience at Aruba immigration this trip. I wonder if they have made a change, as I have heard similar experiences over the last few weeks including when we were talking to other visitors on the island.
Not sure when, but we will be back

Looks like a great start to the trip. We also make use of the last line trick wasn't quite as fast as yours but definitely sped things up. Besides I love seeing the looks on the faces of those standing in line wondering why you get to breeze on through.

I saw the sign stating Bavaria was doing BBQ did you happen to try any? Love their Schnitzel and Spaetzel wonder if they also do BBQ well.

We didn't try barbecue. Peter said that they offer it every night except for Monday, when he said it's to busy and there might be other nights when it's to busy to offer.

14 minutes! I can only dream to be so lucky. We were told by Aruban officials that even though the very last window says "crew", it's just like when you are in a restroom with a handicap stall. It's not that you can't use it, but handicap individuals get preference; i.e. crew members can jump the line.

We've not tried Barneys, but knowing we can just hop in and sit at the bar may put it on our list for this year.
