    May 7-May 17,2016 ABC/DIVIAI

Just returned yesterday from our Happy Island and have to say 10 days go by way to fast! We flew JB both ways direct from Boston. Both flights were uneventful. Only comment I have about JB is that the crew going down were the most miserable workers we have ever had on a JB flight but we didn't let this bother us. Crew coming home were friendly and smiling more like we are used to with the JB crews. We arrived at ABC and our rental was ready for us! Dropped luggage off,put our suits on,stopped at the bar for some wings, fries and drinks- vacation had begun! First night we went to Fusians for their mixed platter and some balashi/balashi chill. I think the bill with tip was 30-35 dollars. Everything was good.we went to Albrahama and played roulette for a couple hours- husband lost 50$/I broke even. Sunday my husband got up and secured us a palapa around 6 am. I did this the rest of our stay as my husband came down with a bad head cold so I wanted him to sleep. I really am always wide awake by 5-5:30 am as I wake up at home at 2:45 am so by 5 or so I am awake feeling like I slept in. My husbands head cold had us literally being beach bums- he really did not feel great through most of our vacation ( I also think he has allergies but he insists he doesn't). Most days we ate breakfast On our patio other than Mother's Day when we ate at Ricardos- yummy breakfast. Most lunches were at the happy hour at the bar- we would split a sandwich and fries and the 2-1 drinks. We ate at Lazy turtle(posted review),Bingoes( posted review),Ricardos,Zuzaroff(sp?)Mulligans and El Gaucho. Most nights we were at Albrahama. On Saturday the 14th we moved to DIVIAI and our room was ready at 11am. We always stay in the casita rooms and have always liked them. This time we were given room 373-I had asked for a king room not on cart path. We received a room 1 room away from the cart path which was fine but we had 2 queen beds. We were happy we had a room so we let it be but if we were staying longer I would have complained as I like the layout much better in a king room( bigger bed, bigger bathroom). After staying at ABC we found a lot lacking at Divi. The beach towels are skimpy, the loungers need replacing- so many broken but still left out and no chairs( we like a chair on the beach to sit and do our puzzles. We did try the New Mexican restaurant and went back to Ginger. They were both okay- nothing to complain about or rave about. The first day we were there we walked over to the new pool rooms and met a very nice couple from England who gave us a tour of their room. These rooms are big and beautiful. Their only complaint was there were no hangers in the closets and by time they called the desk they had run out of them. They were a very nice couple letting complete strangers in their room and overall said they would stay in these rooms again.
we had a really nice vacation and other than a couples massage at Manchebos Spa del Sol,eating out, chatting with new and old acquaintances and going out to Albrahama we were beach bums. God willing we will return next year- hopefully for 2 weeks and healthier!

We always thought the food at the Divi was inconsistent, but we kept going back because I loved the beach and their staff is great. After our last trip in Nov/Dec we decided we would book somewhere else for our trip this year. I also notice the Divi is focusing their marketing efforts towards families with kids under 17 staying and eating for free. It's great for families but we're looking for a calmer environment.

Thanks for the report, love those relaxing beach days and ending at the casino. Always a good time!

Any tips about staying at ABC? We are considering it for later this year.
Not sure when, but we will be back

I forgot to mention that at ABC the security staff was right on top of the palapa situation. They comb the beach at 5:45-6 am and any towels, bags etc left unattended are scooped up and brought to the reception area for the owners to pick up. A lot of people were upset about it but didn't bother me because at the divi they would go out in the dark, claim a palapa and you woul never see them until 11,12,1- ridiculous! ABC checks again at 9 and 11. One day we were swimming in the ocean and one of the security tried to remove our stuff but couple in back of us said stop they are out swimming and pointed us out and they left our stuff there. Not sure what was going on that day( new security guy maybe?) because we were at our spot at 6 and 9 and even chatted with one of the security guys. Tracey we really enjoy staying at ABC but if you don't have a palapa by 8am they open it up to Casa del Mar people so if you want one I recommend going down early. The noon happy hour is always a fun time! You get 4 towels for a studio room and you can only exchange 1x per day. The beds here are very hard and the pillows on the bed to firm for me but they have softer ones in closet. I always forget to bring a roll of paper towels with me but other than that they supply everything you need.all the workers here are super nice! We like to rent a room on the bottom floor so we can walk right out to patio but I suspect the view is better from the 2nd floor.
