Well back home :( from paradise!.....

Well we are now home . Came back to where we had a huge downdraft storm (almost a tornado). Trees down all over the place. Luckily only a few little branches here, but others are not so good, one tree literally split a house in half!!

I have to say that we had a great week in Aruba. I have posted already about most of the trip so I will start where I left off after the Buccaneer. I did contact them and Angela replied and apologized that we didn't have a good experience. She said that her main chef was on vacation as was most of her regular wait staff.

She is going to send me a voucher for a free dinner when we go back....

Me and my wife went to Passions. I had to say that it was a great experience, and it was not really expensive. My friends that we traveled with watched my daughters so we could have a nice quiet dinner. I had the surf and turn and my wife had shrimp. The food was great. The wait staff there was awesome, they just basically picked up my camera and started to take pics (with permission of course).

The next night we watched our friends kids, and we went to Casa Tua for Pizza across from the Radisson. The pizza was ok, but its hard to compare to pizzza in my home area, where it is very good. The kids had a great time. Then we walked down the street to the mall, and just caught the water show which was played to Disney music so the kids loved it!

I played in the Casino nightly so I got comps from the Casino for Benihana, where we went Friday night.

My family of 4 eating all adult portions (even the kids), only cost me $40 so it was a nice treat. The habachi was great, but no different than what I would have gotten at home. But it was a lot of fun for the kids.

Then came Saturday......... we went to the pool for a couple hours and then had to get ready to go to the airport, which was an experience for us, I never traveled and had to drop luggage, then security, then pickup luggage, then drop luggage, then security, and so forth. But was not that bad.

The Radisson was a great choice I think. The hotel was great. We stayed in the Aruba tower, room 1404. It was a decent room, we had booked a garden view and they upgraded us to a partial ocean view. I do not need a 5 star hotel, so I dont have any complaints about the room. The room was clean and cleaned every day.

My only complaint about the room is that we were basically above the bar, and having 2 young children, we were in the room fairly early, and it was quite loud. But it was not that big of a deal. But being on the even side if the Aruba tower, you don't get the sun blaring into the room in the morning. So if you are a late sleeper then an even room might be better since the sunrise is on the other side.

The breakfast at Laguna was good, that is where we went daily. Kids under 12 eat free at breakfast. Total bill was $42.00 each morning.

We ate lunch at Gilligan's where my wife and I had the lunch special for $8.95 which came with Iced Tea. So lunch cost us basically the same as breakfast since the kids had to pay.

We reserved a Palapa daily. I got on line at about 3:30, where I chatted with a man daily who also waited on line. We got great palapas each day, I reserved one for my and one for the family we were with. One of them was usually on the first line. The hotel also have coolers of ice water right on the beach which was great we just brought a few bottles and filled them up.

On Wednesday we played Bingo at the pool, a buck a game. We won the second game, and the prize was: a free t-shirt, 2 frozen drinks (the kids got them), and a Pool Cabana (which you HAVE to pay for normally, you cant just use them even if they are not being used). We reserved on for the next day. It was really nice, they set up our towels and gave us a cooler filled with ice and bottles of water.

My daughters also got their hair braided on Thursday.

The first few days we were there it was not very crowded. Towards the end of the week, people started to fill in but still was not too bad. If anyone knows the Jersey Shore. Even when all the Palapas were occupied it was nothing like Seaside on a light day.

We used Bully to get from the airport to the hotel the first night. I forgot to call him to reserve him for the ride back. Next time, I will probably just give him my schedule to drive me around. He was great! Since we had 2 families he had his brother with him to pick us up. Both had nice vans and no problem fitting everything into them.

Well that is all that I can think of right now!

Me and my wife are already thinking about next year. I saw some deals to go and look at time shares where the cost of the trip was very cheap. I have to kick it around.

The other thing that we were thinking, was doing an all inclusive next year. While the food is good on the island, we really didn't go off the resort all that much. And the food was good at the hotel. We visited Jamaica last year and the all-inclusive aspect was great for the kids.

So if anyone has any recommendations for an all inclusive, let me know!!!!

And anyone have any input about the Marriot Beach Club Timeshare????

Having stayed at the Radisson four times, we absolutely love it, but when they start charging for bingo , imo, that is REALLY a bit much!

Stay at the Tamarijn, kids 17 and under are free, AND they don't charge for bingo. 2 cards per person. Prizes are usually t-shirts and/or wine.

We returned from our third stay and are already looking forward to the fourth trip with maybe one tucked in between.

I hope to have a review up within the next day or two of our stay which ended on the 29th. As I told my 96 yo grandmother (who has also stayed there as well) this a.m., everything from my past reviews on the Tam is pretty much the same.

It is only a 3 star resort and the bathrooms need updating, but the food is decent, and nothing beats waking up, rolling out of bed and right out onto the beach. Oh, and when travel with 1- 4 kids 17 and under, the savings are significant. Maybe enough to stay a few extra days.

    Sgroi135,

Nice report, I'm glad you had a good time, the Radisson is very nice, stayed there last year. Going in Dec will be staying at the Marriott Ocean Club, will give you a update. We also went to Buccaneer last year, we had very nice service and food was well worth the price in comparision, plan on going again this year, Sorry to hear you weren't so lucky, want to be in the room with the Turtles this time. Will have to look into Passions, I know Arubalisa loves it also, will see if i can get the menu and look, because my 18 year is such a picky eater. Anyway, we went for the 1st time last year, and we weren't home long before we started to plan another trip, You'll get back. Lisa highly recommends the Tam and when you look especially with the small ones, this seems like it would be perfect for you

Went to Texas De Brazil a few nights ago with 2 adults and 3 kids. I had a coupon for 50% off all meals. 2 of the kids were considered adults. With no alcohol or dessert the bill was $154.00 USD. The food was awesome though. Don't eat the salad, it just fills you up and there is a lot of good meat.

Nice coupon there. Luckily both my kids were free. So I only paid for one meal!

I just uploaded some pictures for whoever "wants" to see them. There are a bunch about 53 of them. But a tiny portion of the over 1200 pictures I actually took. Many of them are just duplicates, cause when I take one, I take 2 or 3.... These are just some basic ones, that include our room, Aruba Tower 1404 (including the bathroom), and the view from our balcony.

    Enjoy!!
